Teedub, I realized getting a tattoo would make me a follower, and I am in no way a follower. Recently, I've been running into many hipsters in the nightbuses and stuff, and it's okay for the tramps to have tattoos, but the skinny ass fags have tattoos too, this is what actually made me change my mind.
Furthermore, with my budget I would never have been able to get a badass tattoo. A badass tattoo is only badass when you have the build for it. I'm gonna use the money on protein and other supplements to bulk up, a tattoo will never make me physically stronger, but bulking up certainly would. So in other words, I traded the tattoo for a better body.

If you wanted a tattoo, you should have got one regardless of whether that made you deem yourself "a follower". Fuck the hipsters, do what you want and disregard them.

Yeah, fair enough, sort your body out first, but if you do want a tattoo after that, fuck the forum - do what you want mate.

"look how smart and original I am, I googled a foreign word and got it printed on my skin"

Why not just get something in english? What is the point of having a word printed on you in a lingo you dont even know?

I think very few people understand Latin, after all that language is extinct. I know Carpe Noctem means "seize the night", since I am a night person it makes a lot of sense getting it.

I originally had plans on getting The Witcher, yea the videogame, but since it's kinda big, I don't think 100 pounds will do.

I had an girlfriend that got "Carpe Diem" tattooed on her lower back.

We broke up.

Later, I heard her referred to as "sieze the ass."

Even posting "Badass Tattoos" in RVF smells like a reach. Do something for yourself that no one else has.

My best friend in med school (who will cure cancer, no doubt) has one incredible tattoo that he got in Argentina. Has nothing to do with the culture, just his philosophical beliefs. It's complex, but the artwork is top-shelf.

THAT is a badass tattoo.

Wise choice. Be badass first, then get the tattoo. I see nothing wrong with tattoos, but your focus should be on being a physical badass first. I'd like to get one in the future, but my body and MMA training come first.

You didn't realize anything. You bought into what people told told you. You became a follower by trying not to be a follower.

My sleeve tat is awesome. I got one of my favorite graff artists in the UK to interpret a sculpture by a Norwegian (I have a lot of family there) artist which has a particular meaning for me. Its beautiful, I get people asking about it all the time. I couldn't give a fuck if some people think having makes me less of an individual or a hipster or whatever, for the same reason I couldn't give a fuck what anyone but my close friends or family think about me - it doesn't matter in the slightest. I run my own business, I've lived on three continents, I do exactly what I want everyday, and a big reason I live the great life I do is I've not been to interested in what other people think is a good idea for me or not.

Also, here in China, if a girl starts saying she likes your tats and/or has/wants them, its a good indication that she is not traditional (they are considered dirty here), and more likely to put out, win all round.

+1 on having a writer do your piece and something meaningful. The rest is just a good attitude

This is a good point. Some people associate tattoos with this certain image but that is not the case. And many women do like them, bottom line.

This guy wears some really weird shit at times and I personally wouldn't rock a full sleeve (let alone two) but his overall vibe is really dope to me.

That being said, I hate cliche tattoos as much as the next man. All of my ink is and will be things that are unique and very meaningful to me.

Gotta bump this thread...

I saw this guy recently. He attended a very high end fashion company's party at the hotel where I work.

Fellas, he's about as flaming as they get. Can't believe anything you see these days, especially a slick professional photograph.

Tattoos on girls look bad. But they do signal to men her overdeveloped masculinity.

They don't look congruent on most men because of how we live nowadays. A tattoo should be born out of a man's journey to become a man. Women are, but men become.

Thanks for the idea on graffiti. I've been thinking of a theme for a sleeve and after lookin at some quality graffiti art I gotta say I'm livin the idea.

Skimmed the thread and didn't see any Japanese gangster kind of tattoos. I have no tats but I think these are badass:

I'm actually interested in getting a tattoo. Someday.

I think in 15-20 years from now, as I enter my 40's.

Some of the pictures in this thread are cringeworthy.

What is the meaning in getting a dragon tattoo, or some cliche'd term?

I don't think anyone should be able to understand what your tattoo means. They should have to ask you for it. It should be ambiguous, where you can only reveal what it stands for to the people you would like to share it with.

I always ask people with non-concealed tattoos what it means to them. Most of the time: "Not much, I just really like it."

Unless you're part of a group that is synonymous with tattoo's as already mentioned, you must have a personal reason for it, and it must be a good one. That's the way I see it anyways.

Shoot me if I ever go down that path.

There are many tattoo threads on the forum but not many tattooed forum members. I am considered moderately/heavy tattooed by most people, if you have any questions feel free to ask me

I regret my horrible tattoos I got when I was 18. I'm sure everyone does.

I went through a time when I thought tattoos were stupid. Recently I have taken more interest in them, not now but in the future, as stated above.

Don't get me wrong, I think some tattoos are complete works of art, I'm just opposed to commitment, in any form. Having the same meaningless thing on your skin forever? All set. But if it actually means something to you, actually means something, then that's worth it in my eyes.

Chances are at a young age when it's cool to get a tattoo, that tattoo doesn't actually mean anything even though you tell yourself and others it does.

Been thinking forever about getting one but now that I am older I think whenever I find the right artist im gonna go ahead and pull the trigger.

I wont be getting anything that I can't cover though.... I really love the black and grey artistic tattoos the most but its hard to come up with something.

I have no tattoos. I heard someone mention once that if you want a tattoo, carry a picture of the tattoo you have in mind for six months. At the end of the six months, if you still want the same tattoo, then get it. Most people will never remain committed to a particular image long enough to ever get through the six months.

I bet this chick didn't wait the six months.

I've seen that tattoo before, I don't know the story behind it but for a girl to have done such a thing the obvious thought is that she must have been raped as a kid, or she sees herself as a defenseless kid or something, either way she's probably broken. Sad, her body looks great.

For those who are on the fence about getting a tattoo or not I'd advise against it.

I've a completely shitty tatto on my right arm from when I was 19 that meant, and means absolutly nothing I dont "regret it" perse but not very happy with iteither and am definitely plannig n getting it covered up in the near future with something much better and meaningful. I have a half sleeve on my other arm that I thought of and wanted for years searched for the right guy to do (after many, many, many inquiries and requsted pictures being drawn)Its truly a work of art I get nothing bugnt compliments. I dont really understand the sheeple mentality of some on here about only hipsters, queers, thuogs, lower /working class etc having tatts. If you think of something you really want, means something, and not everyone has than I think you should go for it but dont do it just to do it and definietyl dont get the same tribal, veni vetty vicci, dream catchers bull that everyone has.

Holy crap! If that's real then it's... intense.

Aside, everyone remember that the most important thing about having a tattoo is to go on and on about how everyone else's tattoos are meaningless skin-garbage and how yours are reflective of incredibly important issues in your life and/or the world.

I used to be totally into tattoos and have gotten a few, specially when I hit the road.
They look quite shitty to everyone else too but they still carry good mementos.Mainly:
