I'm gonna get tattooed on my left arm soon.

Do it if you feel like it. I think that the days where middle and upper classes looked down their noses at people who have tattoos infering that it's soley a working class - white trash or ghetto - practice are happily gone.

From a recent stay in Moscow, I remarked that a wider cross section of society (not only artsy people, but also cosmopolitan and trendy upper-classe females) get them, which is remarkable as art tattoos were (and still are) rare in FSU. In Brasil, if you stroll around on a sunny weekend on the most chic beaches like Ipanema, Leblon, Barra, ect, you will see only a handful of people WITHOUT tattoos ...tattoo culture is BIG in Brasil - the bigger the better. Here in Paris, I have even seen body art make its way to the Banking community - generally, the tats are discrete, though I have seen some females with art on their ankles.

I have a sleeve art tattoo (from shoulder to wrist), big colored japonese koi fishes and jap-style fiorenturas, and I feel good with it ..... it gives IMO a non-standart and fashionable look (provided that in parallel you also wear stylish and refined clothes, a fancy watch, ect) that many girls seem to appreciate, especially - but not only - on my hunting ground, FSU and EE.

This is a good point. Some people associate tattoos with this certain image but that is not the case. And many women do like them, bottom line.

This guy wears some really weird shit at times and I personally wouldn't rock a full sleeve (let alone two) but his overall vibe is really dope to me.

That being said, I hate cliche tattoos as much as the next man. All of my ink is and will be things that are unique and very meaningful to me.

Old guys know what's up but you can tell this guy has new tats since the ink is still vibrant and fresh.

He gets a pass because he is way past the point of giving a fuck. He has no white-collar job that's gonna bitch about tattoos, he's got style, and looks like he is being filmed in some different part of the globe like Italy or some shit.

You either are born into tattoos or naturally morph into it. These guys whom are cubicle rats and spent their whole lives brown-nosing only to go to Thailand like everybody else and get a half-sleve are losers. Women are so lost now days that they still have this bad boy meme locked in their head of tattoos and will jump at a guy at with ink because they are so desperate for real men.

My homie just got his first tat covered up. he got that shit 12 years ago when we were in grade school in some drug dealers basement -- that's real.

I've always wanted tattoos but like that old guy picture I will wait till I naturally grow into it. When I reach my pinnacle in life I will be tatted the fuck up because it won't matter any more. My seeds will have been busted in evrey continent, in women of all shades and creeds, I will hopefully have made it rich and gone broke a few times, and finally realized my full potential with my music, I will also have settled things with my family back in Africa making sure the foundation is set for the next generation. At that point I will lite a cigar with my inked up selves, in some sun drenched local and say "fuck yeah".

If I were not corporate, I would think about getting one. The japanese stuff looks amazing with the colour and looks like the real deal, all the other stuff looks so lame. The dude Kosko posted looks like a boss, but how many guys look that good.

Alberto, if I saw you with that tattoo I would laugh and ask you where you conquered. I would seriously pass on that and invest the money into something else.

Why not just get something in english? What is the point of having a word printed on you in a lingo you dont even know?

I think very few people understand Latin, after all that language is extinct. I know Carpe Noctem means "seize the night", since I am a night person it makes a lot of sense getting it.

I originally had plans on getting The Witcher, yea the videogame, but since it's kinda big, I don't think 100 pounds will do.

Foreign language tattoos are stupid unless you have some sort of nationalistic pride within that language.

I've got a Bulgarian revolutionary in my lineage (This guy for anyone interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todor_Kableshkov ) . I've thought about getting some ink to reference that. At 31 tattoos are losing their appeal though.

I do think some cliche tattoos are acceptable. Tattoos in memorial of a family member, or one of your parents, for example. If you sail, tattoos are dope as fuck. Military tattoos, jail tattoos, martial arts tattoos are all legit.

-Chefs getting tattoos=not cool
-Band members getting tattoos=not cool, unless you're the next Slayer, Pantera, or Metallica
-Getting tattoos of comic book or movie characters=not cool
-Getting tattoos with any reference to any girl=way not fucking cool
-Getting tattoos of Japanese Irezumi= in theory, I like the artwork. But every time I see some dude with this shit he's white as can be and doesn't speak any Japanese

Most tattoos, like 98%=not cool. L.A. might be the most tattoo-saturated place on earth, and it's all just a bunch of fucking posers.

It sounds like you don't understand Latin either and getting that because your a night person is cringe worthy.

yeah...but a reason for the pride you know? I mean, if you're 1/4 Spanish, 1/4 French, 1/4 Mexican, 1/4 Swiss, which do you choose? Which do you identify with and why? A good tattoo tells a story

Alberto, ain't you Mexican or Chicano? That's basically who popularized the black and grey tattoos in America. At least get a bad ass black and grey piece if you have to get one. I don't know why you would want a Latin tattoo, reminds me of all these idiots with Chinese letters and those Japanese fish tattoos. Maybe a huge Aztec piece on your chest that will show with a wife beater [Image: popcorn2.gif]

If you put it that way I should get an Arabic tattoo, since my origin is from the middle east.

Houston,I'm not Mexican. My mom is from Mexico, but her parents are Syrian.

I'm as big of a Maiden fan as anyone else, but this? Lame
[Image: Iron_Maiden_sleeve_M.jpg]

You can tell how angst ridden this kid is by his facial expression and hardcore tats. Still lame.

Just cut off your balls and hand em over, buddy:

This guy on the other hand...just look at his face. It's got whiskey, whores, and back alley brawls written all over it.

Straight respect here. Also not the guy to fuck with in a bar:

There's definitely a crazy story behind this Russian Mafia prison tattoo, but you'd probably rather not be within 100 yards of this guy.

Great idea, houston [Image: banana.gif] I might just do this because my dad's gonna wanna kill me if he ever sees my tattoo, and if I get an arm tattoo it's inevitable that he will see it someday.

My dads a pretty old military guy. didnt start getting tattoos till after most of his recent tours.
hows he's he;s one one or two on every limb ,chest and back..

So much hate on tattoos. I have no idea why though.
Yea lots of people have them now. Its a fashion statement. it fits a persons style.

No different from old bikers doing it..only its a change of times.

My dad and I are pretty close and he's wanted me to get inked too. As long as it can be covered by work clothes even the military allows them.

The reason I dont have any?
I want to establish myself first and I want to have a meaning behind it.
If I get ink I want it to tell a story. Like how tattoos originally did.

I am the cock carousel

Very good post (it's about my state of mind, with the difference that I do have a full sleeve AND a white-collar job). And yeah, the guy definitely has style, and is the living proof that you can have tats AND be stylish, refined and elegant, despite what some conservative, sarcastic and narrow-minded tattoo-haters might say.

If you watch Russia's Toughest Prisons, you'll see all the inmates getting tattooed year on year to signify how many years they've been incarcerated.

I've got 6 personally, 4 of them are in my ancestral tongue.

It is also a kind of ID that is used to communicate your "rank" in the criminal society (in which type of activity the criminal is involved, what he has done, ect). It's like an historic of the criminal's life, including, you are right, of his years in prison. Young criminals begin their tats around 15yo and then add more during all their criminal life. Motives are often so complex that you need to be a real "specialist" to read them. There is a whole chapter about that in the book that I just recommanded in the Tiraspol thread.
