Thinking of getting one of these. Anyone else have one, or have thoughts about it?

I love Seiko, i have an automatic from the 60´s, i use it everyday and it works great.

I´m guessing a divers model would be even tougher than the one i have.

I've narrowed it down to these two. I'll be purchasing one or the other within the next month. I've been having a hard time deciding which one. Any thoughts?

@Farmageddon, they are very similar, but I prefer the one with bolder numbers. It's still classy, but also more casual and relaxed.
No idea about the brand though

@Frontenac that seiko is nice, but i dont know if its going to be a watch you can use daily. The dial color is limiting altough cool. I'd like to get something bold like that (orange/red) and also in deep blue. Oh, and it's probably going to last longer than you hehe

I played around with the Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Watch at Best Buy. It seems a little crappy still because the menus aren't that great and I don't think it'll integrate with the phone as much as I'd like. I may get it just for the camera though. I need to find a way to disable that shutter sound. I'd love to take a lot of incognito photos.

I only have 2 watches, a Michael Kors with a black strap and another watch with a brown strap. I actually read somewhere that brown strap watches aren't fashionable for younger men, is this true or a misconception? I'm asking because I have one obviously...

Edit: Man those watches with blue hands are nice!.. I've never seen those previously. It would limit the colors you could wear but I think it would be worth it once you're all matched up.

For dudes on a budget check out Seiko 5 with a FiftyFive Fathoms mod. Replace the dial and hands what comes out is a cool looking Blancpain look alike.

You can find them on Ebay already moded for around $300. There are different style variations in dials and hands.

Recently I've been interested in bronze watches. They quickly develop an interesting patina that looks great when paired with a distressed strap. Patina can be polished back to new without loosing much metal.

I've been fiddling around with vintage watches. I just love the plastic crystals and how very understated it is. I wear it all day and no one gives a second glance.

If men are supposed to pay two months salary on their bride-to-be's wedding ring, women should spend two months salary (counting whoever's salary is highest) on a nice watch for her groom. "It's only fair."

"It only smells."

I personally like minimalist designs, so stuff from sites like https://www.dezeenwatchstore.com/ hit the spot...

I love mine, its not a dress watch but its always been my go-to when travelling. Mine has been diving, up mountains and into a radiation zone and takes everything I throw at it.

If you are looking for a dress watch with a blue face I can really recommend my Omega De Ville Hour Vision Orbis. Not only is it a stunning watch which I find myself enjoying every time I look at it, but you are also supporting a great cause (flying eye clinic) by buying one.

Beautiful Omega !

Since i live in a low income country, i never had any Swiss made automatic chronographs, though i was always stunned by watches since i was kid. I owned 3 watches of around 500 dollars worth, and i got every each one as a present from friends, godfathers, family members. I gave away one, lost another, and i still wear third one.

I know it REALLY is a cliche, but i really like Tag Heuer Monaco, classic design. Another favorite one is Frank Muller Casablanca, also preferably a classic design, not that new flashy red, blue and similar ghetto upgrades. If i could chose any i want, well, i would gladly opt out for Patek Phillippe [Image: biggrin.gif]

I guess somebody already recalled, but isn't it ironic for an alpha to wear an omega ? [Image: biggrin.gif]

Anyway, my choice

I have one, but I haven't worn it for years. It's good and robust, but it had some mechanical issues that I haven't fixed yet, as I got myself a GMT-Master.

Damn. 41mm is huge! A 32mm case was the standard size for four or five decades -- and a 35mm case was considered large.

I realize that watches have gotten bigger over the years (40mm is probably average for chronos and diving watches), but more than that is probably overkill unless you have huge wrists.

How does Seiko keep some of their automatic watches incredibly cheap ? Under 100$ and such. They even advertise them to be only +13/-13 inaccurate per month, and being extremely robust !?

While their upper range models have much worse accuracy despite being much more expensive.

This watch market got me confused a bit.

Orion, I would never by an automatic that is that cheap. The accuracy is probably horrible. If you want a cheap nice looking watch I supposed I'd go with a quartz, because it would be accurate at least. The expense in the automatics is due to the quality and precision of the moving parts.

My Hamilton has an ETA movement (pretty standard for TAG or Omega as well) and I swear its almost perfectly accurate. I never have to adjust, even after months. I got the most upper end, but you can get nice Hamiltons for $400-600.

Which one did you decide on?

For those who are budget conscious try Parnis. I don't have one but have seen them and they look nice in the pics and very affordable.

Just did some google research.

Well, turns out they are as accurate as mid-range watches, using proven, old mechanisms. However, they are machine made, with very rough or no finish on the mechanism (so it looks very robust, non-polished), and of course, using quite cheap materials for chasing and very cheap straps. And they cannot be hand wound, so you have to wear them to get them powered.

I decided to buy either of these when i collect the dough:

1. Sturmanskie Gagarin 40th anniversary (i dislike 50th anniversary ones, the 40th looks much more retro and minimalistic).

2. Seiko Spirit Smart solar powered digital radio-time watch

3. I really like this Orient dual powered watch, but i don't think it's easy to find it online.

Nope it is a parnis. Across the pic it says Parnis. I believe it is considered an homage watch.

Samsam, shameless ripoff. It looks decent (it fooled me at quick glance) but you'd be able to distinguish from the real deal fast in person. I thought Panerai had a design patent for the face and case shape. Its probably past its protection.

No girls recognize panerai anyway unless they previously had a rich boyfriend who liked them. IMO if you're going to buy a cheap knockoff to impress, look for a high quality Rolex fake.
