I collectionate watches and currenly am wearing a Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 17

I'd recommend you to go on ebay and search for vintage watches. Even if they're not completely new looking you can just send them back to the manufacturer and get the case polished / glass replaced for a couple hundred.

I've managed to buy some amazing watches really cheap on ebay, just gotta check out the sellers ratings, ask them to send you pictures of the mechanics and/or the serial # of the watch. If they have a receipt, even better.

Currently own an IWC Flieger chrono, IWC Ingeneur from 1957, Omega Speedmaster from 1988 and the Grand Carrera.. once you go for higher tier girls, they do notice... just as they'll notice the difference between armani and armani exchange.

Rolex is considered the classic watch to own. I would say it is one of the most popular watches to own by those who are interested in watches and have enough cash to throw around to buy one.

The one in specific is the classic Submariner with a black dial and black background. The one that first started having a cultural presence, when it was seen on the wrist of James Bond in the original James Bond movies:


I know I am talking it up, but this is my dream watch. This watch has a certain abstract quality that signals a high level of status and power.

My 20 year old friend has three rolex's from his dad. I do like them, but I can't see myself rocking them without that kind of money. Breitling is more my style since I spend most of my time on the water in a marine environment and have clothes that fit that bill, so something more casual (like Nautica) for a fall day on the sailboat, or something like Breitling for going out to a beach club.

And you guys are right, why spend your money on something that's so easily duplicated when you can get a custom fitted suit or shoes?

Or a car. That 5 grand you were going to spend on a watch could go to help buying that Benz.

Both make great points about the Rolex, I do love the submariner but slightly out of my price range. Also I hate the fact there are loads of duplicates of that model, I don't want to hear "is that real"
The Datejust is more for the corporate environments and a good watch to wear on a night out, not too flashy or over the top.

Breitling - as mentioned before, I love the navitimer and have seen a great deal on a second hand one. $3k

What you run into is should you pay $3k for a Breitling or $4.5k for a Sub, both used. Chances are, in 10 years the Sub will be worth equal to or more than what you paid for it. Breitling not so much. Not to mention they're really not even in the same league.

Breitlings ARE nice, but don't expect to pay boatloads less than for a Rolex on the pre-owned market (unless you're getting a quartz Breitling).

Check rolexforums.com for sale forum for pre-owned watches of any variety.

I rock a Hamilton autochrono and love it. Its all Swiss and literally the same movement (ETA) as most other Swiss watches such as Omega, Breitling, or TAG. It has sapphire crystal faces as well, so its basically the same construction with only designs being different. there upper line of automatics run $1k-2k. I went from a $150 to a $1500 watch so it was a big jump for me but I wear it all the time.

It keeps perfect time.

if I was rich Id rock a Panerai no question. The really expensive watches design their own in-house movements.

It really comes down to what you want to pay though. I've heard many times from watch nuts that TAG, though a nice watch, is very overpriced.

Also, Id never buy a quartz watch. I love the heft of my watch, and love the wobble you can feel when its winding.

Panerai is mostly ETA movements. They have a few in-house productions I believe, but most all are modified ETA. Lots of huge fans out there though.

Tag is overpriced, but they're well styled and you can find some bargains pre-owned. They also make automatics. I agree with your recommendation for a ~$1k automatic. Go automatic or get a g-shock.

Rolex is considered the watch to own by most watch peeps and mainstream society, it's got that instant recognition and name brand appeal. The only people who really look down on Rolex are either haters or super rich watch snobs who can afford a $40,000 Patek Phillipe.

That said, I think you're basically paying for the name when you get a Rolex, and boy are you paying for that. For a minute I thought about getting a Rolex Submariner, but last time I looked the price was pushing $10,000. That's just way too much money for a guy who isn't completely balling out of control in my opinion.

I ended up getting the Omega Seamaster which is basically the same exact watch, but for close to 1/3 of the price. Omega makes some seriously sick watches, and while you won't get that "OMG you have a Rolex" factor you might get from some women, you've still got a very stylish and well made watch on your wrist that will up your style game.

I got love for Breitling as well, and while I could see how some people would like them better than Omega, I think they are typically more expensive and go with more of a nautical/aviator theme which may not always mesh with every guys' style or outfit.

If you got an easy $3000-8,000 to spend I'd say go Omega or Breitling all the way. If you are a baller and can go $8,000 + then I'd say fuck it and get the Rolex.

In the end you got to be a watch guy, and look at it like a lifelong investment. Some guys will say they can't afford a watch or it's a waste of money, but it's all perspective, you could probably spend $4,000 and have a kick ass week in Vegas, but it will end after that week. Whereas a $4,000 time piece could last you the rest of your life. It all comes down to priorities and what you value.

You're talking new prices here. Personally, I would never buy a watch brand new. I got my Sub pre-owned at about 65% of what it would have been new (pre-tax new price also). It was in mint condition, a few years old. Guys will buy these and never ever wear them.

Look around on rolexforums.com and you'll see many fine Submariners going for sub $5k, with some other models running even less. Same goes for any other decent watch...Omega, Breitling, etc etc...you can find really nice Omega Speedmasters for ~$2k. Vet the seller and do your research on the watch itself first, obviously. It took me two years to figure out exactly what kind of watch I wanted and about a month to find the actual watch.

I actually missed out a bit on these watches, years ago I wanted one but was too cheap to shell out the money. A friend of mine bought a sub mariner for $5k about 6 years ago, now they are twice the price.
Back in day I was gaga for the JLC reverso, which are now very price.
Omega's are nice but still expensive.
Breitling are great but that chronograph look is played out.

I like how they are built and I love that they work automatic it's just Fun to Look at how a watch Works.
I always make sure that my Watcht Matches my Lifestyle and Personality.
Since I was a Teenager I always dreemed of owning a Breitling Navitimer but unfurtnatley it's just to Big for my wrist and doesn't Look that Good on me.
That's why I choose to go with the rolex daytona ase my next Watch since it's fit's me better and is a Great Store of Value.

You cann sell it anywhere in the World at any jewler so if you're in a Worst Case Situation you and don't have acces to Cash you can sell it and get near the Same Price you bought if for back.

The Rolex costs arround 20 K so I will Buy it ase Soon ase my Investments Hit arround 50 K per day.
I have strict rules with spending Money on Luxury Items since they are a simbol of my achievments and Not just a Show of.
It's important that they fit my Reality since a watch Projects something about you and you're Lifestyle and I want to keep my promises.

For now I rock a Nice Ingelsoll I am going to Post Pictures when I am at Home.

If you don't want to spend more than 1000-2000$n Look at Tissot. It's a Swiss Watchmaker and my mother Hase always been satisfied With the Quality .

I Personaly wouldn't Buy from eBay but would rather go to you're Local Jewler since you can always go there if you have a Problem.

It Makes the buying experience much more Fun and you might even get invited to exclusive Partys if you spend enough Money there.

The Breitling above I can't find for less than $8,000... shame because I agree its a great looking watch.

Also, I think its important to get a good band. If you buy a $200+ watch, but nothing too expensive, getting a nice real croc band is a great upgrade.

Storm I upgraded to hamilton a year ago. Stuhrling is made in China and very cheap. It does look nice though for the price. My current watch probably weighs 5x more than the old one.

bottom line if you want a quality auto that keeps good time, you're gonna prob have to shell out some dough.

You've also asked about where to live well on 1500-3000 a month. You make tons of posts about ridiculous sums of money when theres probably one guy in the entire forum who makes anywhere near that type of money and they surely are well north of 22.

Are you remotely aware of the amount of assets you would need in order to make 50k a day in investments. I'll give you all benefits assume thats pre-tax and that your getting 20% return per year which is not probable. You are talking about making 18,250,000 per year. By my math that would take 91,250,000 in investments. Lets get real here and stop making posts about extraordinary amounts of money unless your actually in the realm of making it.

Personally, I like the styling of Movado but I'm not someone whose looking for a special movement. I just want something that looks good and tells the time. Rolex makes some beautiful watches as well as Breitling but that type of money is not worth it to me for a watch.

I have Raymond Weil for about 10 years, serviced twice (and took them from my father lol). They are pretty good for smart / business casual. Also looking into buying fashion watch, probably Locman.

Tag Heuer's are really good for the money - they don't cost too much and have solid quality and looks.
