That's a beautiful watch, Gringuito. I know my Father has one that is very similar to that one but I'm not sure the model number.

I think that Andy Warhol's Patek Philippe is the most beautiful watch I have ever seen in my life.

But I didn't want to spend 60k on a timepiece. I just love simplicity and the look of the Breugeut numerals, which are not typical of Patek Philippe.

Yeah, that's actually the reason I went with that one - the smaller size. I'm a pretty thin guy, about 155 at 5'11, and I have fairly small wrists. So, the smaller size and the Breguet numeral cinched the deal for me.

Damn, I wish I could justify paying $10K+ for a watch, those Patek watches are beautiful.

Let me get your guys' opinion on the following watches. I'm looking for an every day watch, not a dress watch or anything too "peacock"-y. Since I'm in the kitchen every day I want something that's comfortable as well, definitely going for leather band.

Very basic obviously...and kind of boring.

Here are actual photos of a few watches that I have owned and sold. I do not usually take photos of watches I still own. I do own the first watch, however, i.e., the Breguet. As you can tell by the quality of the photos, these are photos that I took myself. Photographing watches is an art form in itself, one that I never mastered. For example, that is a reflection on the Patek, not anything wrong with the watch. Damn, posting photos in posts is a nightmare. I need to stop at three, as I am in the midst of packing. The Breguet is from the 1990s, the Longines from the 1940s, and the Patek from the 1930s.

They had it listed for 8,500 and there was a 1 day sale 1k off at 7,500. I got them down to 6,900 cash.

If you really keep watch on ebay you can find deals this good a couples times a year.

For any gold-plated watch, a jewelry polishing cloth is your best bet. Just take your time and pay attention to detail. Use a nail or small file to get into tighter areas, such as where the crystal joins the case (ensuring that the nail cannot penetrate the cloth and cause any damage).

If it is a 14k or 18k watch, a jeweler can polish the watch case on a machine. The next time that you pay to overhaul the movement, ask them to do it for free -- as an add-on courtesy. If it is a vintage watch, think really hard before doing that because a gold patina looks great to many people, including myself. A jeweler can also buff the scratches out of most vintage watch crystals (often for free, if you pay for an overhaul of the movement).

for watches like that Omega (I have a Seamaster Pro with the Speedy style bracelet) you'd be amazed what you can do to restore a brushed finish, with a Scotchbrite pad.

Make sure you buy the green/yellow pads though - I usually buy the 'non-marking' pads for kitchen cleaning and was looking at the watch like an idiot when they weren't doing anything.

I have been wearing this fella for four years now. I still get compliments about it from young, attractive women on a weekly basis. It has proven to be a great ice breaker. Not to mention, it is durable as hell so I just wear it all the time. After summer, I have one hell of a watch tan.

I would suggest looking into vintage pieces of reputable Swiss time piece makers. I've seen Zenith diving watches go for less than $700 and they have excellent movements and well constructed. Zenith watches seem to be retaining and gaining value recently due to the fact the manufacturer is slowing down. Seiko old skool diving watches - classic design, less than $500. Reputable watch makers have stringent manufacturing processes and certification standards. Many have been making watches for hundreds of years by skilled artisans. Well made Swiss watches can last a life time as long as they are serviced and cared for. Avoid bling.

Buy a watch/timepiece for yourself not for others. It's a piece of functional art a man can wear everyday and appreciate without being too "in your face." I personally enjoy looking at a gorgeous watch on my wrist. It reminds me to continue the hustle.

You have good taste. The bronze Panerai 382 is so sick and begs to be worn because it just looks better and better with wear. It's also sold out and limited edition so it will hold it's value and most likely appreciate over time.
