I thought it might be interesting to talk about what I saw in Zagreb vs Beograd. This is my perspective, not dogma. So take this for what it is. I'm open to disagreement and critique.
I will be comparing the cities here as well as the mentality of the people and which is better for girls, living, game and ect. This will compare the capital cities as well as the very similar yet different people and cultures.
Girls.
Girls have a bit more attitude and are a bit worse looking in Zagreb/Croatia. This is really marginal however, I'd say even extremely marginal. Your game and your results will not differ in any way. You might not even notice this. Also if you like lighter features, Croatia/Zagreb will be a better fit.
Game.
The issues with night game/day game are also very similar. The weather was shit and I had obligations that made game very low ROI and inconvenient but I'm going to give Zagreb the plus 1 over Beograd simply due to less hooligans. No one is getting their shit fucked up in Zagreb at night. Event game and social circle game will also work well due to the size of the city. Like Beograd, bad weather scares the cats away.
Mentality and quality of life.
Croats are a bit more intellectual and more western than Serbs in mentality. They like to eat healthier (having a coast helps no doubt) and drive better. There is much more civic mindedness. It's really sad and horrible how much the damn Turks fucked much of Europe (and all now ) with their occupation. A good Romanian friend of mine also said these divides exist within Romania. History and occupation really show their role, even today.
While more expensive, Zagreb is hands down a better city long term for living. Austrian architecture and much more nature as well as a better transport system are the main reasons. There are more fresh food markets and the wider streets will lead to easier summers and winters to stomach due to superior urbanism. The city ,even though less people ,feels much bigger because of this. While kalemegdan is more interesting and more beautiful ,Maksimir is nicer overall. Tourism wise I would say Beograd is better and more interesting. I didn't see too many tourists in Zagreb ,slightly more here in Beograd actually.
Notes on the Yugoslav conflicts. I talked with some Croats about their side of the story. I do not take any sides and think that the NATO bombing was truly horrible. I also know there were no angles on any sides. After my visit I am however more sympathetic to the Croats ,the reasons are three fold. Firstly , Croats were worried about a legitimate irredentist threat. Croats are also pissed that Serbs misrepresent them during ww2. Most Croats hated Pavelic for the very obvious reason he wanted to give the coast to Italy, however many Serbs still hammer on about this and demonize Croats.
Third and most important, as a member of the (((tribe))) who is very self critical of my own cultural background, I realize the damaging mindset a victimhood mentality can cause. Many Serbs really do have this and It's an excuse for inertia and to become very opportunistic in actions, not genuine or to seek out truth.
Jews,Serbs,Greeks and Russians seem to have a history of constantly doing this, often not out of desperation but to seek their own gains.
Overall both cities are great ,despite what I've said above ,I would still recommend Beograd over Zagreb for the average RVFr.
The reason is the values this community holds and the dynamism of Beograd will be much more amicable. There is also the issue of cost and a slightly more conservative vibe. However even the cultural politics of the two nations/people are more or less the same. Men are men, women are women, everyone hates gays ect ect.
I'll probably update this later with more observations.
