Yeah that seemed a bit off to me too, but then I forgot it after the race stuff distracted me.

So sad. I hope he gets the fucking chair.

From a normative perspective obviously all of these shootings and assassinations are just as bad, regardless of the race or religion etc of the victims and the perpetrator. To stop racism I think it is necessary to analyze it from an empirical perspective too. Unfortunately there are always going to exist racists who are aggressive against people because of their skin color. So maybe it would be best to construct some white-only cities out in the desert somewhere and then urge everybody like this guy to move there in order to reduce racial tensions.

Good point, maybe an assassination attempt but covering it up with multiple victims ?

The problem is that violence always leads to more violence. Notice how these shootings keep escalating?

Knockout Games
Trayvon
Ferguson
Baltimore

Now finally you got some deranged white guy lash out in an attempt to defend his people.

Look at the big picture: the violence that occurred in Charlestown will result in multiple negative effects.

- Increased gun control (which means innocent people cannot defend themselves)
- Increased Black on White violence

And you can bet your ass if more Blacks retaliate on White people over this guess what happens next? Violence just keeps escalating.

I completely lay the blame at the hands of our first "black" president. That guy could have worked to establish peace by reigning in the media frenzy who have done NOTHING but instigate racial hate, but instead he sides with the lying press to foster hate and prejudice. After nearly 50 years of peace between the races, the piece of shit democrats lead by the phony Obama is returning this country back to the old days. Good fucking job assholes.

About the claims that there is more racial animus or violence today than there was in the recent past, I would love to hear some older members' perspectives.

I'm in my 20s, so my perspective doesn't go back very far.

Yes we have this, Ferguson, Trayvon Martin, etc.

But I know in the 90s and 80s there were also episodes like this, going back to the 70s and 60s it seems like even more so.

Does it seem accurate to say that the whole trend of violence between races being sensationalized is on the upswing, or is this more or less a constant that some younger members are just now becoming fully cognizant of?

When I was in Atlanta in the summer of 2013, I spoke with a homeless Black man who was begging on the street. He was over 50 years old. He told me he hadn't seen race relations degrade so much or be so bad since he was a little boy in the 60's because of Obama. He was the one who planted the seed in my mind that Obama was destroying this country's race relations first. And I've only seen shit get worse and worse since then.

Crime in general is falling, but that's not good for page views if you're the media. What's changed in my lifetime is the constant media. The perception of more crime is because the media can constantly report newer crimes, whereas before they would have to summarize it.

This is related; notice how far off our perceptions are
Quote:Quote:

1.Ageing population: we over-estimate the US population as much older than it actually is – the average estimate is that 35.9% of the population is 65+, when it is in fact only 14%-- a perception gap of -21.9 points.

2.Christians: in contrast, we underestimate the proportion of Christians - Americans think just over half (55.7%) of the country identify themselves as Christian compared with the actual figure of 78%%--a perception gap of -22.3 points.

3.Muslims: we hugely over-estimate the proportion of Muslims in the US – we think one in seven (15%) of people are Muslims when the actual figure is 1%--a perception gap of -14.4 points.

4.Unemployment: Americans over-estimate that nearly 32.1% of the working age population is unemployed when the actual figure is much lower at 6%-- a perception gap of -26.1 points.

5.Murder rate: Americans are dead wrong on their murder rate with 51% saying it is rising (which is incorrect) whereas only 30% think it is falling (which is correct) and 18% say they don’t know—a perception gap of -21 points.

6.Teenage pregnancy: Americans over-estimate that one quarter (23.9%) of all teenage girls aged 15-19 give birth each year, when the actual figure is only 3.1%-- a perception gap of -20.8 points.

7.Immigration: Americans over-estimate that 32.3% of the population are immigrants while the real figure is 13%-- a perception gap of -19.3 points.

8.Voting: Americans just underestimate the proportion of the electorate that voted in the last general election - the average guess is 57.1% when the official turnout was a paper thin higher at 58%-- a perception gap of .9 points.

9.Life expectancy: Americans underestimate our life expectancy thinking the average for a child born in 2014 will be 78.1 years, when the actual estimate is 80 years— a perception gap of -1.9 points.

50 years ? What about the LA Riots ? I'm sure there were more.

Just not exploited by the media like it is now.

I don't foresee any new gun laws being passed soon.

Black and white violence (even it's not because of recent events) WILL be portrayed as an effect of these events.

I believe the constant news, sensationalism, cell phone videos, has put a huge spotlight on race relations. The news will sell the shit out of anything to do with this to keep viewers blind to anything else while counting the dollars they rack in.

I'm not sure if this country is getting more violent AND/OR it's just being reported more.

Right, it's Obama's fault that racist whites hate feeling that a black man controls every aspect of their lives.

The crime stats will be part of the Peacetime America of the past 50 years. We're at the bottom; get ready for new highs.

In regards to this kid. Obviously, it is pretty weak what he did. But to feel like he is the oppressed one is hilarious.

The New Left is responsible for a great deal of racial hatred and resentment in this country.

They encourage tribalism amongst every race except whites, give preference to them in hiring or college admissions (so much so that you have morons like Rachel Dolezal claiming they're black to benefit from this), and then constantly come after white christian heterosexual people with all sorts of degenerate bullshit.

Even though I try to ignore the media bullshit it's been impacting my real life. I've lost a few friends since the Trayvon Martin shooting because they went from being friendly people to spewing black supremacist propaganda.

This kind of shit, in turn, spurs white people who have been raised all their life to believe that you should treat everyone equally, that the color of someone's skin isn't important and that race is just a social construct to rethink all this because these days the liberals don't even believe that anymore.

According to them it's now technically not possible for anyone to be racist against whites because they're 'punching up', racism = privilege + power and whites have all the privilege and power. [Image: rolleyes.gif]

Who knows what they'll think 10 years from now. Or six months from now, depending on whatever dangerous ideological fad is en vogue with them at the time.

I meant to question your assumption about the homeless black guy: that worsening race relations are worse because of Obama himself, not the constant (heavily subsidized) hate programmed into whites by AM radio on their already frustrating twice-daily commute that he is a commie Kenyan Muslim handing out free phones.

The ACORN hoax hurt race relations much more than Obama's comments on Trayvon.

It's just the media ramping up their long-con to unprecedented levels. Just look at those 2 incidents you mentioned:

The first one, Trayvon, didn't even happen. You have a narrative over "black babies' bodies" falling victim to "white racism" over an altercation in which a mestizo Hispanic shot a 6'2 black guy in self defense. It was self defense, so there was no racism, and neither of the parties were white, so there was definitely no white racism. But the media happily put that stinking pile of shit in the laps of white people, and we're still holding it to this day.

The Ferguson fiasco? A 6'4, 220lb+ giant of a man commits assault and robbery, and shortly thereafter assaults a police officer and goes for his gun, resulting in him getting shot. Nothing to see here except a violent criminal meeting a violent end, but again the media spins a shitstorm and the narrative moves right ahead, reality be damned.

Why is this happening all of a sudden? Because the climate has perceptibly shifted. We've reached the point where Bruce Jenner is a woman, George Zmmerman is a "white Hispanic", and Haven Monahan haunts college campuses across the country. Who is going to dare and state the obvious? Nobody, because we live in an ideologically totalitarian state. The media can now operate outside the constraints of mere reality. It has enough power now not just to spin reality, but to create its own alternate versions of it, and nobody will stand up and call bullshit for fear of losing their jobs and in fact their place in society.

TLDR: media has more power than ever now, and since one of its primary objectives has been pushing the "white racist" narrative, it's no surprise that the incidence of media shitstorms over "white racism" grows in tandem with the media's power.

Most of the killers who do these sorts of things would've been in mental institutions had the left and libertarians not agitated to have the baby thrown out with the bathwater. 70s-era social justice assholes like Geraldo highlighted extreme examples of mistreatment in a couple of these places and convinced politicians to shut them all down rather than implementing reforms. You also had movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

This is another historical inconvenient truth we're all supposed to never remember or mention.

But compared to how hostile things used to be before the 1960's, and it's really quite an improvement wouldn't you say? Being black in the wrong neighborhood back in the day was a death sentence!

Obama couldn't have been anything that anybody wanted to him to be because if he would have been that, at best, he wouldn't have made it to the White House, at worst, he would have been assassinated.

The President is just a figurehead for an entire system that's ran by people we don't know for people we don't know.

The last men you could put "change the world" hopes on were all assassinated.

That type of politician is literally dead and gone.
