As for the heart palpitations comments, holy shit. I was using minoxidil a few years ago and also had random panic attacks / anxiety. While i considered minoxidil being the culprit, I would have never thought there'd be scientific basis for it. Do you have any exact linkage?
There's to my knowledge only one study that's been performed regarding Rogaine and its effects on the heart:
Topical minoxidil: cardiac effects in bald man
The author's conclusion was that minoxidil increases heart rate and left ventricular volume, i.e., your heart has to pump harder to move the same amount of blood.
This is just one study and I don't think there's been any follow-ups. The side effect is uncommon, but you can find plenty of horror stories on the WWW.
For me I just noticed one day that I had difficulty walking up stairs or even up a small hill, even though I'm a pretty fit guy. I had to give up lifting weights since I was having trouble breathing. I then began suffering from excruciating panic attacks.
I went to my doctor because obviously something was really wrong. He ran an EKG, took my BP, listened to my heart, but could find nothing. I started researching side effects for anything I was taking, and lo behold, I started coming across Rogaine side effects. I immediately stopped using Rogaine, and my heart palpitations disappeared within a week. The hair that grew back in disappeared three months later
I'm think I'm an outlier as I'm really sensitive to certain substances, e.g., caffeine. My fiancé takes Rogaine and has zero sides, and she weighs 50lbs less than me (she takes more now than I did then).
