Attack on Istanbul Airport - Multiple Explosions and Gunfire Reported

News media like Megyn Kelly are going to make a fuckload of money as global instability is rapidly increasing.

Everytime a new terrorist attack it's their faces right there on primetime. You get fresh material every few days.

Then shit will go down at the Olympics, euro soccer terror, etc..

Turkish Air frequently has the lowest prices to Europe when I look at booking a flight and includes a connection in Istanbul.

Obviously, I'm not at all tempted by the low price. No matter the price, it is too expensive.

There are only two countries in the entire world that I know for sure that I will never ever visit in my entire life one is India the other is Turkey.

India is worth visiting, there are some great parts like the Himalayas, it's one of the world's great civilizations. It's the thirld world too, but still well worth a visit.

Turkey is a great country, awesome food, great heritage, nice beaches, and friendly locals, if you get your foot in the door. Some good nightlife and hostel scene too.

I guess you're entitled to your reservations about that country given your heritage Yossarian, and that's perfectly understandable. Turkey hasn't done anywhere near what it should in terms of coming to grips with that chapter.

This is what the CIA calls blowback, Turkey was quick to support ISIS against the Kurds and the PKK, now this has backfired and the monster Turkey helped to create is destroying their own city.

Nice pic.

Take care of those titties for me.

There's that, and the fact that it's filled with crazy Muslims who support ISIS.
That's also a reason to give it a pass.

How sad. They're many amazingly hot women who work in security and immigration there, not to mention Turkish Airlines stewardesses.

Attack on Istanbul Airport - Multiple Explosions and Gunfire Reported

Has any kept track of how many ISIS terror attacks have occurred in Turkey?

Timeline of Bombings in Turkey
March 19, 2016: ISIS Bombing in Istanbul

A suicide bombing in Istanbul’s popular Istiklal Avenue caused five deaths and injured approximately 40 more. Those killed in the blast were foreign nationals, in addition to the perpetrator: three were Israeli, two of which held dual citizenship with the United States, and one was Iranian. While the government initially suggested that the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) may have been responsible, the bomber was later identified through DNA testing as an ISIS member of Turkish origin, an additional ISIS suspect may have fled the scene.

March 13, 2016: TAK Bombing in Ankara

A car bomb in Ankara’s Kızılay district, near a transit hub where many bus lines meet, killed 37 and wounded hundreds more. The attack occurred only a few blocks away from the previous Ankara attack, in a neighborhood that includes government ministries, as well as a court and police station. The attack differed from the previous Ankara attack, however, in that its primary targets were civilians. Turkish authorities were quick to blame the PKK for the attack—and to tie it to the Syrian Kurds, alleging that the bomber had received training from Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG)—but it was ultimately claimed by the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), a separatist Kurdish group that splintered from the PKK.

February 17, 2016: TAK Bombing in Ankara

A car bomb in Ankara targeted a convoy of military vehicles, killing 29 and injuring 60. Following the bombing, the Turkish government misidentified the perpetrator as a Syrian national, alleging that the Syrian Kurdish YPG were responsible for the attack. However, the attack was later claimed by TAK.

January 12, 2016: ISIS Bombing in Istanbul

A suicide attack in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet Square killed 13 and wounded more than a dozen others. Occurring in the heart of Istanbul’s tourist district near the Blue Mosque, all casualties in the attack were foreigners, primarily German tourists. The bomber was identified as a Syrian member of ISIS.

October 10, 2015: ISIS Bombing in Ankara

A suicide attack outside of Ankara’s central railway station killed 103, and injured over 400, making it the deadliest terror attack in Turkey’s recent history. The bombs targeted a “Labour, Peace and Democracy” rally organized by the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Demoratic Party (HDP) and other organizations to protest the resurgent conflict between the Turkish government and the PKK. The bombing occurred shortly before Turkey’s parliamentary elections in November. Though no one claimed responsibility for the attack, it is widely believed that ISIS was responsible: the bombs used in the attack were extremely similar to the bombs used in Suruç in July. Additionally, one of the identified suicide bombers was the brother of the Suruç bomber.

July 20, 2015: ISIS Bombing in Suruç

A bombing outside of a culture center in the primarily Kurdish Southeastern town of Suruç killed 33 and injured over 100 more. The victims were primarily Kurdish youth who had gathered to give a press statement on their planned trip to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani. ISIS is believed to be responsible for the attack, but the Turkish government and the HDP disputed the identity of the attacker.

June 5, 2015: ISIS Bombings in Diyarbakır

Bombings in the primarily Kurdish Southeastern town of Diyarbakır during an electoral rally for the pro-Kurdish HDP, only two days before Turkey’s parliamentary elections, killed four and injured over 100. ISIS is believed to be responsible, and a suspect was arrested in connection with the bombing shortly afterwards.

Perpetrators of Terror Attacks in Turkey
The list of those who have carried out attacks in Turkey in recent years and could potentially orchestrate future attacks is a long one, highlighting both the growing instability in Turkey and the region.

ISIS

The Syrian conflict has increasingly spilled over into Turkey, with devastating effects. The majority of the terrorist attacks in Turkey since June 2015 have been attributed to ISIS, though the terrorist group has not officially claimed responsibility for any of the attacks, meaning that ISIS attacks lack a clear statement of motive. It is unclear whether or not ISIS attacks in Turkey, which so far have primarily targeted Kurds and foreign tourists, are attempts to target ISIS enemies within Turkey or the Turkish state itself.

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)

The PKK was founded as a Marxist-nationalist movement by leader Abdullah Öcalan in 1978. For over two decades, the PKK was engaged in a bloody civil war with the Turkish state, which resulted in over 40,000 deaths. In its inception, the PKK sought the creation of an independent Kurdish state. Over time, however, its goal has shifted towards securing greater rights and autonomy for Kurds within Turkey. In 2013, then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a ceasefire and opened a peace process aimed at getting the PKK to lay down its arms and bring the conflict to a close. However, the ceasefire collapsed and hostilities resumed between the PKK and the Turkish government in July 2015, leading to clashes between PKK militants and government forces, primarily in Turkey’s Kurdish southeast.

The Turkish government has been quick to blame the PKK after past terror attacks—even when the PKK did not appear to be immediately responsible. Following the October 2015 bombing in Ankara, when all signs pointed to ISIS, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu asserted that the attack was a collaboration between the PKK and ISIS in what he termed a “terror cocktail.” The Turkish government, by rhetorically linking the PKK to ISIS, has used ISIS attacks to justify increased operations against the PKK in Turkey and Northern Iraq—and to justify its opposition to the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which it considers an offshoot of the PKK.

The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK)

TAK emerged in 2004, when it split from the PKK, alleging that the group’s methods were too “feeble.” Since then, TAK has criticized the PKK’s attempts to negotiate with the Turkish state and has carried out several attacks within Turkey, including both government and civilian targets. Its autonomy is a subject of debate: some view TAK as a splinter group or even an alias of the PKK, while some view TAK as a group independent from the PKK.

Recent TAK attacks have been in response to the government’s policies in Turkey’s southeast since the resumption of hostilities in 2015. TAK statements have focused particularly on the town of Cizre, where military operations have been the most extreme, placing residents under harsh curfews and preventing them from receiving medical treatment. After the February Ankara bombing, TAK seemed to warn of future attacks, saying “From now on, the AKP and its collaborators won’t be able to live in a fascist dictatorship so comfortably in their own city. As of now, we won’t be responsible for the safety of international airlines that fly to Turkey, or for foreign tourists.”

The Turkish government and Turkish public see little difference between TAK and the PKK, Pro-government media has pushed a narrative that treats all Kurdish groups as one and the same, accusing the PKK of “using every letter in the alphabet” to deflect responsibility for terrorist attacks. This narrative provides further fuel for the government’s conflict with the PKK and continued opposition to the Syrian Kurds.

The Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C)

A Turkish Marxist-Leninist group that has been designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union, the DHKP-C has been responsible for assassinations and suicide bombings in Turkey since its founding in 1978. The DHKP-C took credit for a suicide bombing outside a Turkish police station in Istanbul in January 2015, however DNA testing revealed that the bomber was a Chechen-Russian woman unaffiliated with the DHKP-C.

The DHKP-C, which is more focused on domestic Turkish policy than the conflict in Syria, originally claimed that it had carried out the attack to punish the murderers of Berkin Elvan, a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head with a tear gas canister during the 2013 Gezi Park protests and died in 2014 after a nearly year-long coma. The last major action taken by the DHKP-C was in March 2015, when they took a Turkish prosecutor hostage, demanding that police release the names of the officers involved in Elvan’s death.

And this has been going on a lot longer than just a year. At least a decade or more, in fact, in the Islamic world the political violence rarely ends.

I think groups like ISIS are seriously taking over the eastern part of Turkey, my friend who is Turkish tells military service is mandatory for young Turks so they can be sent to fight Jihadis in the eastern mountains, which is why his father sent him to American schooling to escape it.

Can anyone (looking at you Samseau and Quintus) point me to a thread in the Deep Forum about the history of Islamic violence in the ME? Or a solid book on the subject?

I want to learn more about the subject. My dad grew up in Izmir (though we're not Turkish. My grandpa was a tobacco dealer after WWII) and he describes it as an incredibly idyllic time. He's shown me pictures of a Mediterranean paradise, says that you would never identify Turkey as remotely Arabic culturally and certainly no Islamic Extremism. I'm curious to see how the rise of Islam Extremism happened in the last 60 years to contrast with the Turkey he knew vs Turkey today.

Turkey is the perfect place for ISIL to attack, unfortunately. It's a country that's divided between an increasingly liberal younger generation, in addition to older folks who are edited. Then there's Erdoğan supporters and less educated who tend to me more traditional Muslims. It's a recipe for disaster.

Veloce,

I've always liked the books of John Esposito. He's one of the most respected scholars of political Islam today, and his works are free of the type of hysteria that taints so many other books in the field.

"Unholy War: Terror In The Name of Islam" is a good work to check out. He's also written others in the same vein. Check out his Wikipedia page if you get a chance.

Agreeing with Sam on this, noone gives a fuck about Turkey, the media doesn't cover it much, because it isn't an important country.

Hardly anyone is talking about Turkey since it doesn't fit the narrative.

Shit, when the Stanford finger rape case letter was going on, 13 girls were burned alive because they refused to have sex with ISIS members, noone even talked about that.

Ironically Turkey was just trying to make nice with Russia.

Erdogan made his bed, now he get to sleep in it.

Erdogan is calling for a united stand against terrorism.

The definition of irony.

Britain left the EU.. so he suddenly wanted to 'normalise' relations with Russia and Israel and then equally suddenly the rabid dog he was aiding turned around and bit him.

I'll go out on a limb here.

ISIS is BFFs with Israel, the Saudis, and by default the Clinton crime family.
Crisis of Character (which I reviewed in the Hillary thread) the book about the Clinton crime family was released today. This was supposed to be the most anticipated political book of 2016. Now the media has something better to talk about.

I'm just saying, it's something to think about.

I have a friend in Turkey who messaged me earlier, saying that many people there believe that Erdogan & Co. (the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood crowd) may even have looked the other way, or allowed this to happen.

The reason is that Erdogan's policies are becoming deeply unpopular. The army dislikes him. The only way he can justify his existence, and keep control of power, is to create crises and emergencies.

He'll probably use this tragic attack to whip up public support for more of his policies.

The man is just temperamentally unfit to be president of a major nation. He's irascible, dishonest, moody, thin-skinned, and an inept judge of the character of others.

It would not surprise me to see him arrested and taken into custody at some point.

He and his family were exposed as running a smuggling operation through the Syrian border, the journalists in question were arrested and jailed and all evidence destroyed by state decree.

He certainly deserves custody.

There's probably no safer airport than one that has been bombed only the day before. You're probably more likely to be hit by a car during your walk than killed by a terrorist attack in Istanbul tomorrow. I don't mean that this isn't scary, because it is. But I don't think you should change your travel plans.

Attack on Istanbul Airport - Multiple Explosions and Gunfire Reported

Turns out its the PKK terrorists that blew themselves. The target is civilians in the international flights section. Which means these terrorists dont just target the Kurds and/or Turks anymore but the foreigners in the country as well. In this respect isis and pkk share the same goal, that is to terrorise the region and contribute to the destabilisation of the region in the long run. The reason why Erdogan is hated by the terrorists is that he started a huge war against terror and kicking their ass really hard. But because these groups are puppets whose strings are in the hands of west (I'll explain how later), the western media is not to mention the military operations against isis in Turkey, on the contrary they portray Erdogan as a supporter. Are you kidding me ? Isis killed most people in Turkey after Syria and Iraq.

The above posts are evident to how brainwashed people can be to blame on the entire religion of Islam. This has little to do with the intelligence of the person but its a solid proof of how manipulative the media can be. If you tell a horse he is a fish a million times, he will eventually start thinking he is a fish.

The case with ISIS is and has always been (since its founded by western intelligence agencies (you know which one in particular)), that they are only portrayed islamic by the western media. However, in reality they do not involve with even the basic islamic practices such as 5 times a day prayer, 30 days fasting (which is this month), obligatory alms, etc. According to witnesses its members cannot even read Quran, speak perfect english but no arabic. Their target has always been muslims, they've killed thousands in the middle east but have not yet threw a single stone to Israel, their supposed to be arc enemy. Isis is a terrorist group that has nothing to do with the islamic belief and muslims are direct victims of isis. Yet, what media does is nonsense like blaming all Japanese for nuclear bombs.
I consider the Orlando massacre an inside job just like paris attacks, 9/11 and kennedy assassination. Theres been many false flag operations in USA to keep the country in almost constant war all around the world.

All this leads us to the fact that isis is a puppet created by western war lords simply because they need an enemy they control for an everlasting war that will allow them to drain blood out of economies permanently. The war lords control other terrorist groups where they see necessary. For instance the main income of pkk was the drug business, they had fields of opium and cannabis trees that supplied some of the drug demand in Europe and US (yearly 200.000 people die for illicit narcotic use, so not just the guns of the terrorists kill. Apart from that the global illegal narcotics business is estimated to be 360 billion dollars per year.) 1 or 2 days before the attack the cannabis fields of pkk were set on fire by Turkish army. Interesting timing.
Another interesting point is how come US embassy knows about the terrorist attacks in an overseas country before hand and warns its citizens ? They usually have no intelligence before the attacks in US soil or dont bother with warning the citizens either.

One other reason why Erdogan is demonised by west is that not only he kicked IMF out but also made Turkey an example to other countries throughout Africa and Asia that it is possible to have a stable and growing economy without having to pay tribute to a group of western money cartels. (google - John Perkins: Confession of an Economic Hitman)
The tribute collected from such countries (hundreds of billions annually) is of vital importance to the west to sustain its hegemony. Look at what happened to Dilma Rousseff who tried the same thing, she will probably spend the rest of her life between trials and jails. This is what happens when you mess with the big guys in wall street. So, we'll see them keep coming for Erdogan.

But sooner or later one day you'll wake up to see the stock markets collapse, some AAA+ banks going bankrupt over night and listen to economists explanation/justification on how on earth all the money had vaporised over night.
Essentially, because the system is built on greed its naturally unsustainable, they must drain blood out of the rest of the world otherwise it will collapse and in my opinion we are very close to see this happening.

Whats important at this point is to predict what the chain reaction will be like and then how the earth will look like in 10 - 20 - 30 years later.

p.s. I am curious how many of my foreign facebook friends will turn their profile photos into Turkish flag to express solidarity against terror..
