TL;DR /r/IAmA, /r/AskReddit, /r/funny, /r/Books, /r/science, /r/Music, /r/gaming, /r/history, /r/Art, /r/videos, /r/gadgets, /r/todayilearned, /r/Documentaries, /r/LifeProTips, /r/Jokes, /r/pics, /r/Dataisbeautiful and /r/movies have all made themselves private in response to the removal of an administrator key to the AMA process, /u/chooter, but also due to underlying resentment against the admins for running the site poorly - being uncommunicative, and disregarding the thousands of moderators who keep the site running. In addition, /r/listentothis has disabled all submissions, and so has /r/pics. /r/Jokes has announced its support

The thing that these tech companies don't understand is that people will gladly use your free service, but when it comes time to try to get them to pay money, people will likely leave in droves. Think of snapchat, tinder, whatsapp, twitter, etc. They command sky high valuations but most if not all of these companies have never turned a profit. My guess is that in attempt to make more money from reddit, they are attempting to clean up the platform and turn it into a "safe space", whatever the hell that means. The problem is that the freedom is what made the platform popular in the first place. Expect them to not realize their mistakes, but to double down and hasten the demise.

The new silicon valley won't be in the US because the US is increasingly anti-free speech, which ironically contributes to the success of many of these platforms. I predict that Twitter will eventually ban most of the RPers just because they're moving in similar directions in other areas.

The reality is that if social media will continue to exist, it must start outside the US and without any US involvement. Voat learned the hard way, and right now they're down when they need to be up.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a country that truly supports free speech, so many of these ideas will probably have to foster in small communities that stay off the SJW radar for a while. The thing is that there's money to be made with these platforms, but where to start it?

They got $50 million last fall from angel investors and a few celebrities. They had to close down their Redditmade business and the CEO was canned and replaced by Mattress Girl! No, the Interwebs are saying it's SJW Ellen Pao:

Pao has a history of suing her former employers for discrimination...so, rather than labeling her a troublemaker and avoiding her, she gets promoted from business partnerships (with no major success to point to) to interim CEO. A stunningly stupid move.

Her first act as CEO was:

Quote:Quote:

In her role as CEO, Pao eliminated salary negotiation for Reddit employees, citing a gender-discrimination motivation for the change

Then she started shutting down reddits.

Then she fired the employee who communicated with moderators - a chubby girl named Victoria Taylor. Users had enough and started the latest freak out.

I'm guessing that, after the fathate (and similar) subreddit closure, Ellen thought she could do whatever she wanted and people would complain but accept it. It appears she was wrong.

I'd further guess that this is all window dressing in advance of an IPO. Ellen's hoping to get a massive payday.

Unfortunately, this will happen across all US companies eventually because this is the only way that they can eliminate pay discrepancies. Men negotiate more than women and we're better at it. Why are we so good at it? Well, let's see, which gender asks out which gender? We're go-getters and men know we have to be.

But if I was at Reddit, I would left immediately.

I'm glad to see more reddit drama unfolding. I was concerned that the whole FPH thing had blown over and that reddit would survive. Now it seems they've over reached yet again, and this time even the average reddit reading neckbeard is forced to notice.

Fuck reddit. I've longed for the day that piece of shit website dies. Seems like it's not so far off now. In my opinion reddit has had a more than marginal influence on corrupting the already fucked up millennial generation. Reddit has been at the forefront of pushing left wing bullshit since it became popular several years back. It encouraged groupthink and moral relativism, liberal/ socialist ideas in both the economic and cultural spheres. It's high time those dipshits got a taste of reality.

Reddit has had more influence on the mainstream culture than most people think, and it's all negative. The whole athiestkult/ neckbeard/brony/ otherkin / transceptance/ fat acceptance/ anti slutshaming/ gay mafia bullshit ALL seemed to coalesce into one big hivemind once reddit came around.

The upside is it makes it easy to spot the mindless drones.

I hope reddit declares bankruptcy tomorrow.

That Victoria person got fired because the Jesse Jackson AMA did not go as expected.

One of the Reddit users asked him some well-deserved scathing questions, Victoria (presumably) pasted some canned response that had nothing to do with them, and the theory goes that Jackson saw this and threatened to sue them if someone didn't get axed.

Why would she do that? Doesn't really make much sense.

HA!!! Good find!

Mr. Jackson,

You are an immoral, hate-filled race baiter that has figured out how to manipulate the political system for your own gain. You've personally set back race relations year after year and continue to do more harm than good. Extorting money from companies to line your pockets and threatening to bus in protestors and create a fake racial controversy if they don’t agree to pay you off is NOT civil rights activism. My question is simple; how is your relationship with the illegitimate child you fathered in 1998 while cheating on your wife? Bonus question: How much money have you extorted from various people and companies over the years of practicing your shakedown scheme? Do you think Al Capone would be jealous of your business model if he were still alive?

Can you imagine not being allowed to ask for a raise?

I wonder if Ellen will try to negotiate her compensation if the company goes public.

As much as I hate to say it, i don't think Reddit will die. A good portion of the free thinkers will bounce, but the ones that remain will be the obnoxious folks that made reddit trash to begin with.

Have the Redpill or PUA sub reddits been closed yet?

Nothing would make me happier than seeing Voat grow.

Did someone by it at $160m or was it just valued at that price?

If it's the latter, I'd be climbing inside a bottle of gin right now if I was the guy who opted not to sell for over 100 million.

Reddit is a platform run by a power-hungry Asian divorcee who sued her company for 'sexual harrassment' a few years after she remarried a black bisexual hedge fund manager who won a lawsuit for 'racial discrimination' against his employer and later went on to get arrested for financial impropriety.

Who could ever imagine such a woman ruining a well-established website with her totalitarian politics?

What makes you think I was not agreeing that Reddit peaked? My argument there was the futility of defending a subreddit that was in clear violation of the site's TOS.

In fact, this latest "response" to what seems to be a personnel issue at the company shows that the site seems to be populated by childish SJWs.

It appears that Pao is overseeing the rapid devaluation of the once potentially valuable Web property. Unfortunately, it was valuable because it caters to young boys -- who are keen to pick up their toys and go home when things don't go their way. I think she is going to prove to be a devastating hire.

Any startup or tech company that hires an angry woman/lesbian to be a top manager, is going to collapse, and the investors will see their money burn, burn, burn.

You have to understand what's going on deep in Pao's mind. She's super passive-aggressive, angry and vengeful in her heart, but she puts a pretty, fake-passive face on, so stupid men (especially powerful and rich men, for some reason) fall for it.
