Interesting stuff.
The mainstream of reddit is going off the narrative.
http://greyenlightenment.com/why-the-lef...t-to-fail/

there are actually people out there who honestly believe Reddit is not a lefty but a right-wing site now. How far from reality does one have to be to even form such a thought?

Well no. That is not exactly what is being said.
What is being said is that too much of the site is going off narrative. And I think we all understand that "going off narrative" is a relative term.

For example, r/Europe used to be a lot more Politically Correct than it is now.
But now it is not uncommon to see lots of stories critical of immigration and Islam. Before both were taboo.
And not simply critical, but from sites that are openly non-PC sounding like Jihadwatch.

The subreddit WorldNews having always had those kinds of elements to it, now has them even more.

That kind of thing. They still believe in social democracy for example but they've dropped a rung on the Left Wing totem pole.

Moreover, opposition to feminism is not uncommon. Yes, the users still believe in choice feminism and that patriarchy is bad. But, thanks to social justice warriors they understand much of feminism is extremely vile and that the West is very far from a patriarchy.
Dropping a rung on the totem pole.

The existence and popularity of FatPeopleHate was another aspect of this.
The infamous Jesse Jackson AMA, again, was another aspect of this.

It's swinging right in the same way a Returnofkings article described GamerGate as right wing: by comparison.
To people like Pao and SJWs the site is growing too hostile.

Yesterday, July 9, the business Web site MarketWatch reported on this and here was their headline: "Is Ellen Pao snafu beginning of Reddit’s end?"

It's one thing to upset your core audience and various commentators. But when the leading business site questions your ability to lead, that's likely the beginning of the end. Perception is reality in business, and a lot of investors base their perceptions on what MarketWatch says.

The actual story pussyfoots around the issue, but that headline will do the most damage. The whole thing is worth reading along with the comments:

Ellen Pao Resigns as Reddit Interim CEO After User Revolt

Quote:Quote:

Ellen Pao resigned as interim chief executive officer of Reddit Inc. after a user revolt at the online forum, the company announced.
Steve Huffman, a Reddit co-founder, is taking over as CEO, the San Francisco-based company said Friday. Huffman, chief technology officer at the travel startup Hipmunk Inc., has had no official role for several years at Reddit.
“First, I’m super excited. Second I am terrified,” Huffman said in an interview.
Pao apologized earlier this week to the Reddit community after a mass online protest over the firing of Victoria Taylor, who staffed a popular feature. Pao has faced vitriol from Reddit users called for her firing.
The uproar didn’t spur the move, which was a “mutual decision over a number of weeks,” Sam Altman, a Reddit board member, said in an interview.
Pao also called the decision mutual.

“We had different views in the potential growth rate in users for Reddit this year,” she said in an interview. “We couldn’t come to an agreement on that and I decided to step down.”
Pao ignited debate in Silicon Valley with her failed gender discrimination lawsuit against her former employer, the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

She was seen leaving with her attorney. And she sues Reddit in 3, 2, 1...

He said Reddit accepts disagreements, but said the site must exercise compassion if it wants to be a great community and said some of the things Reddit users wrote about Pao were "sickening."

"Disagreements are fine. Death threats are not, are not covered under free speech, and will continue to get offending users banned," Altman wrote.

Just be honest, there were no death threats. Sara tried pulling that lie on Imgur last month until people called her out and started getting banned for wanting proof of these threats.

In an email, Pao said she resigned because Reddit's board was asking for faster user growth than she could deliver while holding on to the site's core values. She defended Reddit's policy changes, saying that despite criticism, the new rules are making the community stronger.

Yes, I'm sure the board wasn't looking for dramatically negative growth!!

Quote:Quote:

"We've taken bold and often controversial stances, but always with the greater good of the community in mind," she said. "We tackled the thorny issues of harassment on the site, banning harassing behavior without censoring ideas. Though we came under fire on many fronts, we did not waver, working 24/7 to try to keep the site harassment-free."

So, instead of doing her job, she when on a feminazi banning campaign.

Reddit moderators are basically volunteers who earn money for Reddit. Of course they got pissed, because it's in human nature to develop a sense of ownership when spending a certain amount of time nurturing something or someone.

Her resignation letter.

http://www.cnet.com/news/heres-ellen-pao...om-reddit/

Quote:Quote:

After more than two years at reddit, I have resigned today. My first day was April 1, 2013 (go orangered!), and every day since has been an adventure.

In my eight months as reddit's CEO, I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly on reddit. The good has been off-the-wall inspiring, and the ugly made me doubt humanity.

I just want to remind everyone that I am just another human; I have a family, and I have feelings. Everyone attacked on reddit is just another person like you and me. When people make something up to attack me or someone else, it spreads, and we eventually will see it. And we will feel bad, not just about what was said. Also because it undercuts the authenticity of reddit and shakes our faith in humanity.

What has far outshone the hate has been the positive on reddit. Thank you, kind strangers, for expressing your support. You gilded me 100 times. (For those of you who apologized for generating a wave of accusations that I gilded myself, please don't feel bad. You did a good thing.) And thank you for sending cute animal pics and encouraging me to "Stay safe!" when the site overheated with expressions of hate in various forms. There were some days when your PMs inspired me more than you can imagine.

Most touching were the stories from regular users. Some told of people they knew who had committed suicide for being transgender or exposed in revenge porn. Others shared their experiences of being harassed and expressed empathy and gratitude. More recently, several users apologized for trolling me and for not giving me the benefit of the doubt when the troll hivemind moved against me. Initially users said they were afraid to post supportive messages openly; recently they started fighting back against the trolls publicly on reddit with support, corrections and positive messages.

So why am I leaving? Ultimately, the board asked me to demonstrate higher user growth in the next six months than I believe I can deliver while maintaining reddit's core principles.

You will be in good hands -- our strong leadership team will now be led by u/spez, one of reddit's original co-founders. Like u/kn0thing, he's lived and breathed reddit since its inception and will work passionately to ensure reddit's success.

Thank you to all the users who shared your excitement about reddit and what we've done and for encouraging everyone to remember the human. And thank you for making my time here at reddit an amazing learning experience.

Beast -- just curious why do you dislike City-Data?

I peruse the NYC ones (because I live here) and find it an interesting mix of viewpoints. Obviously a lot of lowest-com-denom arsery, but where else can I see people complaining about such specifics as "the new speed camera on Woodhaven" or "why some people think E 101st St. is technically still Upper East Side"??

Tier 1 cities are totally fine. In fact its a great resource. NYC, LA, Chicago are perfect. The boards are massive and have a ton of people.

It is when you get into tier 2 and 3 cities that the entire section is filled with people desperately all circle jerking themselves about why their crappy city is better than some tier 1 city. It's so bad that it makes it difficult to get honest opinions on specific neighborhoods.

Case in point, check out the Boston section. God forbid if you make a complaint about any aspect of the city no matter how wimpy the tone. Some of the advice is downright wrong in many instances.

Though it might just be the culture of Boston seeing that it is the epitome of the lowest-com-denom arsery.

Chairman Pao has almost completely destroyed Reddit in her attempt to create a SJW - crapfest like Tumblr.

And here is something very interesting - The New York Beta Times published an article on Ex-Chairman Pao that wasn't feminist you-go-girrrrlll enough and changed it:

http://newsdiffs.org/diff/934341/934454/...ation.html

Essentially they already twisted the truth in the first version, but in the second they made it the fault of online misogynists and sexists while again repeating the mantra of not enough women being CEOs and not enough representation in STEM fields.

The cultural Marxists will never stop with this bullshit. This stupid bitch PAO not only fucked her way up in Silicon Valley, but also sued her former employer for not promoting her even further. But the corporate SJW idiots still believed in her and hired her for an even higher position at a bloody social media company. As Matt Forney pointed out, she was so tech-savvy that she could not even use a forum trying to link a post to her personal private email account thus displaying not only an inability to successfully operate simple procedures that any 12 year old boy currently can do, but she completely discredited herself as the head of any high tech company.

Then she started her SJW campaign by lowering the pay of men and some women, who would have otherwise negotiated a higher salary. Then she began firing dissenters and even a man who was battling with cancer. Afterwards she continued by closing off SJW-unwelcome threads that caused the ire of millions of users. Even now her actions will have repercussions.

The blow to Reddit is severe and the future uncertain. When a mid-level private company offers a better platform and guys like Rollo Tomassi and The Red Pill move, then it will be another dead social media company that survives due to SJW crazies talking about being trans-tree-sap-trans-honeysuckle and how unfair it is for the world to not accept them that way.

Goodbye - Chairman Pao - I am certain another company will want to hire you in order to be later sued for gender discrimination. Poor Chairman Pao - I hope she can manage on her multi-million dollar termination fee for all the good work she has done so far to push forward into the BIG JUMP FORWARD.

Eight months as Reddit CEO was enough to almost destroy a well-functioning company that could have been easily monetized further on. Her former Silicon Valley described her as an incompetent manager for a reason. As we all know the thirsty Betas of Silicon Valley love being around a rare woman there and if she is somewhat competent, then they will even promote her before an equally competent man. In this case she was certainly incompetent.

I just want to remind everyone that I am just another human; I have a family, and I have feelings. Everyone attacked on reddit is just another person like you and me. No - you are a bloody Social Justice Borg who will gladly destroy men, their careers and reputation over some jokes they did among themselves. You will SWAT them, you will harass them until their employer destroys their careers and livelihoods. You will doxx them and publish any picture that you can get your grubby fingers on. Everything is fair game, but if someone make fun of you thin-skinned feminists, then suddenly it's you and your family, which is dysfunctional anyway with a gay husband and some lovers who treated you as a fucktoy. It is as Roosh pointed out correctly - SJWs cannot stand the same medicine and if attacked simply crawl back in retreat screaming misogyny and harassment.

Most touching were the stories from regular users. Some told of people they knew who had committed suicide for being transgender or exposed in revenge porn. Others shared their experiences of being harassed and expressed empathy and gratitude. Transgender promotion for the 0,00001% of the population UBER ALLES! Revenge porn is not really revenge porn, but pics that promiscuous girls send to their Alpha Fucks or girls let their men take of themselves. They were not stolen, but given personally. The Hivemind are you and not those that criticize you!

So why am I leaving? Ultimately, the board asked me to demonstrate higher user growth in the next six months than I believe I can deliver while maintaining reddit's core principles.

Reddit's core principles - I guess those are YOUR NEW PRINCIPLES of the MILLIONAIRE-PROLETARIAT, which ban anything that is not up to your NEWSPEAK standard. The reality is that the board realized how millions of users jumped ship and the mantra is not about growth, but upkeep of the company in the current form. With Chairman Pao you could not even talk about user growth. It's simple survival.

You will be in good hands -- our strong leadership team will now be led by u/spez, one of reddit's original co-founders. Like u/kn0thing, he's lived and breathed reddit since its inception and will work passionately to ensure reddit's success.

Thank God that one of the guys who hired you will be leading the SJW-crowd into new frontiers.

Thank you to all the users who shared your excitement about reddit and what we've done and for encouraging everyone to remember the human. And thank you for making my time here at reddit an amazing learning experience.

You have learned nothing. You have earned millions and will be exalted as a hero who was ousted by sexists and misogynists. Chairman PAO will return to sue and steer another company to the ground.

I am absolutely astounded that the world does not see this Ellen Pao for what she really is -- an extortionist par excellence who, in saner times, would be so ostracized and excluded from the business world that she would be able to work as a teller.

These are truly sad times for America.
