Cyclone: You have a slight error in your logic. These two situations are similar but do NOT seem to be equal.

There is a difference between what JJRoberts wrote and what Brodiaga wrote - in that Brodiaga is writing from a context and providing details about his earlier experience(s) in Indonesia.

You are correct that Brodiaga gave an initial assessment (or a first impression) of Jakarta based on one day, yet he told us that he intends to provide more detail to back up what he said. It is understandable that Brodiaga's first impression may change - we do NOT know yet.

And, understandably, Brodiaga is in the middle of his trip and assessment of the place, and hopefully, involved in gathering data to provide for us at a later point in time. Hopefully "the shit" does NOT turn sour on him, but we will see - it is what it is.... and we may NOT get a further report from Brodiaga for a few days......

JJRoberts, on the other hand, provided us a conclusion asserting that his assessment of Jakarta was based on one night in the city without much of any context and without any details concerning how he reached that conclusion about Jakarta as compared with his experience(s) in other parts of Indonesia. We are left speculating, and JJRoberts provided NO indication that he would be back to provide us further details. He left us with a short and contrary assessment lacking specifics.

Surely, JJRoberts may have reached his conclusion based on fair considerations; however, so far his conclusion seems, at this stage, to be lacking in depth and specifics - and maybe if he provided a little more context, at least we would have some better sense about how he arrived at his various assessments that seem in tension with other Jakarta reports conclusion. If he gave us more context, then we may be better able to conclude ourselves about how much weight we should give to JJRoberts conclusion(s), especially in light of several RVF member reports to the contrary.

DONT get me wrong, I have NO problem with guys arriving at differing conclusions b/c each of us have different tastes and different things that we value. Here, I am speculating, but maybe JJRoberts reached his conclusion based on his having been robbed and stuck in traffic and bitch slapped - who knows, but Rio's reaction was appropriate to suggest that JJRoberts' brief description was lacking and accordingly unconvincing.

Ha, my 1 night in Jakarta involved me getting a hotel, checking out the city to get a feel for the energy of the place (rushed and stressed out or melllow with green space?) and the layout (nice walkable downtown or spread out and need taxis everywhere?) and whether there were much to see or do or not.

It was Sunday when I got there and i was told by a guy I met 2 days earlier in Singapore that a club called Tanamur had ladies night on sundays so I went there, talked to the cutest Indonesian girl there and took her back to my hotel for a golden touchdown.

Sadly tanamur no longer exists because it was legendary. Once described as the most densely populated part of the most densely populated island in the world :

http://www.jakarta100bars.com/2009/01/ta...losed.html

Nothing negative happened to me in Jakarta (quite the contrary).

However I don't rate cities badly base on isolated negative experiences or think that its an awesome town just because I got laid on the night I arrived.

Jakarta is a great town if you like traffic jams and government buildings because there are tons of both but it just seemed like a big charmless urban sprawl to me - a stress inducing working town - and Java has lots of other charming relaxed towns with decent nightlife (outside of ramadan) where the women were equally accomodating to me.

Each to his own I guess.

Thanks for the additional detail JJRob.

I have NO problem with guys coming to their own conclusion(s) about any particular place. Yet, it seems that if an RVF member is making SEA rounds, and may spend a few days or maybe a week or longer in Indonesia, he has to start somewhere.

And, so far, it seems that a large majority of the RVF member reports conclude that a guy should start in Jakarta.. to get the most bang for the buck in the shortest turn around time and the most assured advantage.

I would imagine that if a guy has only a short period of time in Indonesia (and he is NOT going to explore volcanoes and Buddhist temples), he may ONLY spend time in Jakarta - b/c apparently traffic is such hell to move from one place to another - if having to go through Jakarta.

On the other hand, if he has more time, then an RVF member may want to know what and where are some of these other nearby places - and to know whether he would be able to readily hook up with the girls via nightlife or day gaming or a combination of both in these other nearby places?

Still in Jakarta. It's 6 30 am and I'm in a cab on my way from a night club.

This city fucks me right in the head.

I'll drop a good datasheet, but right now im just too overwhelmed, too busy experiencing it.

I'd like to hear about the Indonesian party style. Is it closed off table groups like in Thailand? Or is the party scene more open?

Rio, It is more open. At bars like X2, Dragonfly & Immigrant you can wander around and mingle, or chat with people at the bar. When these places are busy, most people are standing. They do have some reserved tables, but the main action is open to all.

Are Indonesian girls reserved like Thai women? Would love to go somewhere that the girls are not so timid. RCA is the best spot to meet girls here, but the Thai party style isn't much fun.

I would say Yes they are. The average girl is quite shy. For example when you walk into a store many of the shopgirls will start giggling. A department store like Sogo will have over 100 girls working there.
Many educated professionals are also shy around bules.

In the bars and clubs discussed here the girls will be used to dating bules so they can be fun to party with, but these girls are often low class or not working and looking for a "rich" boyfriend, or they are the local rich kids (eg. you can see girls arriving in their new Mercedes) and you would need great game for them.

The average Indonesian girl would probably only go to a bar a few times a year, say for a special celebration.
Its not like the West, where most people who are single and under 25 go out every Fri/Sat night to bars/clubs looking to hookup.

I'm back and ready to start writing a datasheet. This isn't going to be a detailed account of everything that happened. I'll just write about the most memorable and interesting moments, share some info on Jakarta and give some advice based on my limited experience there.

I’ll start with my last night in Jakarta.

It's about 10pm. I'm at Loewy with my buddies I met a few nights before. The place is buzzing. I am buzzing. This is my last night and I know I'm making the most out of it. I already got laid before going out....well, kind of, but that's a story for another time. Right now I'm just drinking my screwdriver, smiling, fooling around with chicks and trading jokes with my friends. I am happy. I love Jakarta. I love this place and the people around me.

We bounce to Dragonfly after midnight. I pre-gamed before going out and drank some more at Loewy's, so I'm already pretty drunk. Not wasted, just drunk enough to lose all my inhibitions and have fun. I walk around the club and mess with some chicks and then, believe it or not, I notice the girl I banged on my first night in Kuta Beach and then ran into at a night club in Ubud. She is with a tall Indonesian guy, probably her date. I post up not far from her and start dancing with a group of hot chicks, but my eyes are on the bitch. Wouldn't it be cool to end my Indonesian adventure the same chick I started it with? When the guy leaves for a moment, I walk up to her and say that I do recognize her this time. She's not impressed. I can't hear what she says, but I can read the face expression and the body language. I've been a dick with that girl, so that's fair enough. I move on.

My memory of the rest of the night is hazy. I keep dancing around with chicks... my buddies are also having fun... next thing I remember is I walk out of the club with a girl. I wish I could tell you what kind of night game I ran on her, but I have no idea. Or maybe she chose me and got me out of there. I offer to take a taxi to my place, she agrees. Then I say to her:
- Look, here's the thing though... I don't pay girls. Just want to make it clear if you want to come with me. [This is not something I usually say explicitly. I don’t know why it came out of my mouth this time]
- But I have a job. I'm a lawyer. I don't need money from guys.
- Honey, I'm very sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. You know....so many bitches out there.

We take a taxi to my place. Cops stop the car on the way, never happened to me before in Jakarta. They open the door and ask me to walk out of the car, not paying attention to the taxi driver and the girl. I only have my driver’s license on me, but they need a passport with a valid visa. I see where this is going. I’m not going to let the cops cockblock me on my last night in town. I reach for the cash. 100K (about $8) is not enough, so I keep taking out more notes. I think I gave them about 250-300K local. They smiled and let me go. I tell the girl it’s all good, that I grew up in a corrupt country and know how to deal with these guys.

[Blackout]

We are at my place, both naked in my bed.
-Do you like to take dick?
-Yeah.
-You like dick, huh?
-Yeah, I do.
-Wanna take it up the ass?
-Yeah.

[Blackout]

-So, you like dick?
-Yeah, I like dick.
-Do you like my dick?
-Yeah, I like it.
-Wanna suck it?
-Yeah.

[Blackout]

I wake up about 9am and realize that I didn’t hear the alarm. It’s not too late yet to get to the airport and catch my flight, but it’s tight. Wow, who’s this in my bed? She looks hot though… a beautiful face and a nice body. Not too skinny, not too chubby, just the right size for fun.

I wake her up and tell her that I have to catch my flight. She is also in a hurry, has to run to an important meeting.
-Honey, it’s a shame that I’m leaving today. You’re beautiful and I would love to spend more time with you. I know it’s a little awkward, but let’s exchange contact info. What’s your name, by the way?
She doesn’t remember my name either. We exchange email addresses.
-So, you’re a lawyer, huh?
-Yes.
-Honey, please don’t sue me.

Nightlife in Jakarta

Lonely planet uses the word “decadent” to describe Jakarta nightlife. I would say it’s fucking spot on.

Night club action starts after midnight and generally runs until about 4-5 am. Word is that Stadium is open till morning, but I didn’t care to confirm that the only time I went there.

Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest. The best places are packed like a crowded train, so may be worth getting in earlier. However, there are things to do on most nights if you know where to go.

Drinks at night clubs are generally weak and fucking expensive. Even water is expensive. Pre-game before going out, ideally buy alcohol from duty free on the way to Jakarta and use it for pre-gaming. Otherwise there is a supermarket on the lower ground floor of Grand Indonesia that sells alcohol. I couldn’t find a place to buy real alcohol, only found this one after a chick mentioned it to me (she also sucks a mean dick, but that’s another story). Anyway, regular shops only sell beer and Smirnoff Ice. Grab a bottle of water and drink on the way to a club. Or fill it with vodka if you’re Russian)

Venues

I only mention the ones where I have been.

Night Clubs

Top 3.

Dragonfly. Some people don’t like it because too many white guys go there, but I would disagree. It’s an upscale club with good music, ambiance, and hot chicks. During the week, it’s good on Wednesday nights.

Immigrant. It’s a huge L-shaped lounge with a dance floor. I’ve only been there once, should have gone more. Beautiful girls, not as many foreigners as in Dragonfly.

X2. A big club, more down to earth. Not too many expats. Service is slow, drinks are weak, but chicks are hot.

Other Clubs

MO Bar. I was there on a Tuesday which is ladies night. Full of whores and older expats.

BATS. Full of whores. An old skank from there offered sex for a place to sleep and a cab fare in the morning. I refused, of course.

Red Square. It was empty when I went there, but the word is that it’s full of whores when it’s busy.

Stadium. A big, dark night club with a lower class crowd. I went there once with my buddy. The girls we danced with turned out to be whores. We said “fuck it” and left. Worth checking out if it’s early/mid-week and you've got nowhere else to go.

Clubs in Kemang. There are a few of them within walking distance from each other. A little cheaper, fewer foreigners. Look up 999 in Kemang, then you’ll find some more clubs on the same street (I remember Tipsy and Nu China, but there are a few more). Also, in the same building where 999 is, there is a cool dim sum place which is open pretty much 24/7. Good for breakfast after a night out.

Bars/Restaurants/Other

Here are some places good for pre-gaming, going with your friends or bringing a date.

Social House. It’s an expensive restaurant and bar in Grand Indonesia. Worth checking out. Hot girls, good ambiance/vibe. Worth bringing a date there, but only if you don’t mind dropping some serious cash.

Skye. A very cool rooftop bar in the same building as Social House. Definitely worth going, just to check out the view.

Other bars in Grand Indonesia. This shopping mall has a lot of restaurants and bars. I only scratched the surface when I was in Jakarta, but you can basically spend all day daygaming there, then go to a couple of bars to pre-game, then bounce across the street to Club Immigrant in Plaza Indonesia.

Loewy. A high end bar full of beautiful girls. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I loved the place. Definitely worth going.

Plaza Senayan. It’s a shopping mall with some nice restaurants. X2 and Red square are also in that area.

Central Park. Also a shopping mall with some nice bars and restaurants.

There is also an area called Wahid Hasyim in Kemang where there are some cool shisha places. It’s cheaper and has fewer foreigners. Can’t remember the names of the places, but they are near Fave Hotel Wahid Hasyim.

Here is a pretty good web site about nightlife in Jakarta: http://beatmag.com/jak/

Brodiaga:

Were you able to pick up girls during the day in Jakarta? And, if so, would that be in the malls?

I have read that the streets are NOT very hospitable... so I am assuming in the malls would be the best? What were your Jakarta experience regarding day game, if at all?

Guys, I'll answer your questions in separate posts.

A couple of additional points about Jakarta nightlife.

Dress

I have seen a few guys wearing suits at the high end night clubs, so if this is your style go for it. One of these guys benefited from wearing a suit and his tight game big time, as in he got a threesome with two hot chicks from Immigrant on the night when I didn't get shit. You won't look out of place if you suit up. I didn't wear suits, but I brought my best pair of jeans, a couple of nice business casual shirts and casual Skechers shoes. I should have brought more shirts and perhaps better shoes. Btw, everybody smokes inside, so your clothes will stink after a night out.

Bottle Service

As my secret adviser told me (btw, thanks a lot man for all your help), ordering bottle service at night clubs in Asia may be a very good move. It's not cheap in Jakarta, though. Ideally you want to split the cost with one or two buddies, then it becomes reasonable. The only bad thing for me was that I pre-gamed on the night we ordered a bottle because I had no idea we were going to do that. Then I got so drunk that night that I was just fooling around and kind of forgot that I was there to pull chicks. If you get a bottle, share drinks with people around you - girls and guys. Again, I was too drunk to think about it on the night we got a bottle, but you can learn from my mistakes.

If I remember correctly, I paid 600K to split the cost between 3 guys at Dragonfly for a bottle of Absolut, so that makes is 1,800,000 local. It's cheaper at Tipsy in Kemang where I didn't order a bottle, but I remember that the prices start at just over a million. Soft drinks are included.
