I wouldn't be surprised, but at the same time a lotta the girls seemed young i.e. fresh-outta-college, none of them would approach the men in the club like hookers usually do. When i got back i read about it said most girls are legit, but then again it looks like that was written in 2009...

Stadium tonight, as i don't think i'm dressed for the other spots plus has a rep for girls on E. Lets see if i take my balls with me this time
.

Club whores in JKT don't seem to approach men that much. They are just more agreeable when you try to approach. I just tried to avoid them, so I don't know much, but that's my impression. BTW, they are good to dance and fool around with to practice your club game before you use it on "good" girls.

I don't understand your choice of venues and the logic behind it, man. Stadium is the last resort, like on a weeknight if everything else is closed. My buddy and I spent time and money buying bitches drinks there only to find out later that they were whores. We left without them, of course, so didn't get laid that night.

If you think you're not dressed well enough for the "cool" clubs, think again. I usually wore nice jeans and a shirt there, but one time I came to Dragonfly in a t-shirt. One of my buddies always wears t-shirts to clubs and still gets in. Dragonfly and Immigrant are more pretentious/upscale, but X2 would probably be a better choice if you're not dressed well enough. Clubs in Kemang, like Tipsy, 999 and other clubs nearby, are also more down to earth.

Don't waste your time on Stadium.

I pulled from X2 last night--will probably go there again tonight instead of rolling the die on another venue, as I'm leaving Monday afternoon.

Sent you a PM, Cyclone.

What do you guys think how it'd be like to live there for more than a year or so?
I'm 20 and my parents will be expats based in Jakarta, so I'm wondering if I should go with them or not.

I would go there in a heartbeat if I were you, but it depends on your priorities. Life is pretty good there for those who have a lot of money by local standards, but it's pretty miserable for the average person. At least you can try and come back home if things don't work out.

One other aspect of Puck21's post is that we know very little about him. I mean, he only has one post on RVF, and he did NOT give too many details about his life experiences and/or his expectations about his future. One thing would be true if Puck21 has a lot of travel experience and another thing would be true if he does NOT have much travel experience.

Additionally, there is some value to getting some college, but NOT all guys value college, and whether a guy goes to college may also depend upon his various options. If a guy is inheriting money and/or a family business, that may affect how he chooses to spend his youth.

In other words, Puck21, if you provide some more details about yourself and your expectations, that may be helpful.

Thanks for the advice to both of you guys ! Sorry Brodiaga for hijacking your thread. About me, as mentioned I am 20, half german half turkish. I spent 9 Months in Bangkok last year and traveled around a bit, will have finished my bachelor's degree very soon. I do like Germany, but at least for me, it's not the best place to hook up with lots of pretty chicks, although it is very possible (my game is not exactly great, but not too terrible neither compared to most german guys i think). Other than that, life is not bad here.
Future expectations is what it comes down to. I would like to study medicine after finishing my bachelor's degree if it worked out, but at the same time I want to be location independant and see more of the world, even though I probably have seen more of it than 90% of people my age. I like asian girls, in Bangkok I had yellow fever but now it is back to normal.
Never before have I been so clueless about my near future.

Brodiaga in Indonesia

Alright, I'll be back in Jakarta this February. Staying in Indonesia for a couple of weeks, but don't want to get stuck in JKT for the entire time.

Guys, I need some advice. What are some good places to visit in Indonesia that also have decent nightlife, other than Kuta/Seminyak? I'd like to make 1 or 2 side trips from Jakarta, perhaps 2-3 days each. Ideally I'd like to see a nice beach, but it's not a requirement.

What I have in mind for now if I'm going to travel alone:
-Gili Islands. I heard that Gili Trawangan has some pretty wild parties. The bad thing is that there are no direct flights from JKT. I'd have to fly to Lombok or Bali and then take the ferry to Gili.
-Yogyakarta. People have recommended it to me for sightseeing/history, but I am not sure what the nightlife is like.
-Bandung. I meant to go there last time but didn't make it. The good thing that it's very close to JKT. I could even do a day trip or just stay there for one night.

Another option is to take a girl from my last trip somewhere with me. I don't normally do this, but she's super nice and sweet, so might as well give it a try if she's up for it. If I travel with her, I'll just look for a nice, quiet beach or a little town with the same kind of vibe Ubud has, but not Ubud. What I have in mind now is either Lombok or a more remote beach in Bali. I know there are also very nice beaches on other islands, but I'm not sure how conservative the people are there given that it's a Muslim country. Would they even let us stay in one room?

I know there are some super remote/exotic places in Indo, such as Papua, where everything is much more expensive, and even getting there is a pain. Because my trip is short, I am not interested in such places.

Any advice is appreciated. I will report back as always.

Good luck finding good nightlife outside of Bali and Jakarta. Your best bet is Bandung but even then it is not going to be anything like Jakarta.

Bad it has no direct flights? That is exactly what makes it worth visiting.

Wild parties? meh I wouldn't say that. Almost all tourist here, few local Indo girls.

Great place to visit though but not if you are on the hunt for Indo girls.

Try your luck in Bandung first. If you like the night life here then you can try other places. Don't expect the same nightlife you see in Jakarta here.

I traveled with my Indo girlfriend and never had a hotel not allow us to stay in the same room. This is not Dubai.

I do think if you get to some more remote places it might be worth asking the policy though.

Sorry for the *massive* delay yall. The rest of Indonesia just wouldn't let up!

The deal with Stadium

Pros:
- good music / dark vibes
- lots of open space to hook up
- nearly every girl on E
- even the *hottest* girls not stuck-up (I pulled in a girl I thought was Russian with zero resistance)
- barely any foreigners
- can pick up girls downstairs (floors 1-3) easily

Cons:
- terrible girl:guy ratio
- chicks seem to be more into dancing than hooking up
- doesn't pick up till 1am, cliquey until then

Overall it was pretty sweet, sadly had family back at the hotel so didn't attempt a real pull. Even though only 5% hot girls in the crowd, those 5% will be extremely responsive to you, like taking candy from a baby. Girls will openly say you're handsome within seconds. But, im not sure how to dance w/ JKT girls, they seem to not be into the grinding thing, looking at other couples they seem to go face-to-face, distant style dancing so maybe look before you leap in (this would go for all clubs I assume).

All the hookers are in the front and its pretty obvious who they are, I was immediately grabbed by a host and dragged straight to their counter lol. But as Brodiaga said, nothing wrong with boosting state with them.

The deal with Jakarta/Indonesia overall

I've told everyone the same thing - while Indonesia as a country isnt all that special, the people are absolutely fantastic. Girls give you the eye constantly in public (see Roosh's video about Montreal girls), I dont know how they are raised, but they treat men with a feminine respect while aren't girl/giggly like a lot of asian girls. Simply awesome and very mature.
People in general aren't too/overly helpful (i.e. Oman, Philippines, touristy places) but they help you just the right amount, very brotherly without being annoying. Men are not cockblockers at all, in a wierd way seem to encourage foreigners to hook up with the girls in the group, as if they get something out of it as well. So yeah, try to get as much interaction with locals as possible as that's clearly the high point of Indo.

Stadium was relatively close to where i was staying, plus it's got a reputation (even last night was talking about it w/ some Singaporeans). Again i didn't see any whores on the dancefloor but maybe your night was different. I am bummed out about not going to X2 cause my friend IRL also said he hooked up there multiple times pretty easy. i wonder what it is about that place....

I spent a few days in Yogyakarta; the nightlife is decently entertaining, I would get invited to come inside bars all the time and get free beer from the group. The amount of attention you get from chicks is comparable to JKT, not as diverse of a crowd though. i heard that theres a bar near the shopping street (Malioboro) where chicks go to hook up with guys, usually local male-escorts, but if they see a foreign dude I'd say you're in. I'd be very curious what yr experience is - also, it's a good place to bring your girl, Yogya is slightly creepy but surprisingly romantic (if you stay in a bungalow).

Have you thought about Surabaya? i met a few domestic traveler chicks from there that were seriously awesome. If you go I just may visit you.

Ok ... it's time I lay down a little information I have garnered about Jakarta to try and give a little back here. The infomation already provided is pretty solid so much of what I say write will echo the previous statements of others, but hopefully it will be more nuanced and up-to-date. First off let me say Jakarta was, in a word, outrageous. I had to take a step back a few times because it got a little crazy. If I were a statistician like some on here seem to be, all sorts of records no doubt fell, one single example being three newbies in 24 hours. I'll spare you details but you get the picture. But there is only so much one person can handle in any 7-10 day period too. Needless to say, I'd recommend a visit to anyone with the inclination.

Anyway, I made it to a fair few places when I was over there recently. Here is my rundown of them roughly in order of relevance from best to worst. Opinions may vary greatly - these are mine - feel free to contradict constructively:

THE GOOD

X2:

The music downstairs was pretty lame progressive music. Upstairs was okay - some R&B soul funk. The ratios here are excellent and there are mighty fine prospects (groups of seven!). Some girls here seem a bit stuck up but there were plenty of friendly people too. Chances here for scoring are high. I had no problems. Go there!

Exodus:

This newish venue has three stories with a club, restaurant and bar/bistro up top. It's a good place. Fairly classy. Friendly staff and good food on the top floor. I just looked in the very spacious restaurant where there was a private function. The club is all shiny and new so the acoustics on those reflective surfaces are absolute shite (clueless interior design wankers) but all that won't matter because the DJ will be piss poor anyway ... that doesn't interest you either because the music is just good enough to get your dance on and meet plenty of friendly women. I got loads of attention here. The door girl came and found me and gave me her number(!) This place is worth checking out.

Skye Bar:

This place is a must. The music here was some of the best I heard in Jakarta (which on the whole was miserable) even though it is not strictly a dance venue. Bring your own friend(s) and enjoy anyway. The drinks are expensive and the ladies are fine. One of the few places I visited where there was an international vibe with a mix of bule and locals and tourists. I didn't eat at the restaurant but it looked decent if expensive by Indonesian standards. Staff here are friendly.

Immigrant:

Went here on a Sunday so it was pretty quiet. Came with two ladies and we danced for a few hours. Was pretty good old school music. The venue is just a big bar but decent enough for dancing though I think it gets packed on Fri/Sat. There were girls at the bar playing Candy Crush on their phones who appeared to be pros because they were alone and just sitting there the whole time I was there. But there were also friendly girls in pairs. The staff were just standing around with little to do bemused by me dancing sandwiched with two girls. Bar staff are good and the bar is well stocked. This place is worth a visit.

Lucy in the Sky (above Potato Head Garage):

This place had the best music I heard in Jakarta, and believe me I heard a lot of junk. It's essentially a rooftop bar but you can dance here. Nice enough crowd, some people rolling and dancing. Friendly vibe and some nice talent. This is one of the best joints easily. Potato head Garage downstairs is kind of an odd joint. Huge and airy and cold. The staff are friendly and so are the patrons so you could do worse than to post up here for a little while. Food was decent though not cheap. There are a bunch of decent places in this area I didn't check out. Worth investigating.

GOOD NON-MUSIC/CLUB VENUES:

North Jakarta Old Town (in general):

Hit the streets there at night in the old town. Locals will tell you it's dangerous perhaps. It's a good laugh. Great atmosphere and a bit gritty. Quite different to South Jakarta.

Kunstkring (restaurant/lounge):

This place is just great. It's a high class lounge and a restaurant that will impress any girl who hasn't been there. Food is ok too and it is not too expensive. Many embassy people go there ... it is in Menteng.

Ocha & Bella (lounge/restaurant):

Really fine establishment on the ground floor of Moovina, a dope hotel in Menteng. Worth a visit for the food and atmosphere.

Seribu Rasa (restaurant):

The name means a thousand flavours ... this place is worth a visit for the food. It's not cheap though.

Social House (restaurant/bar):

Decent place in Grand Indonesia shopping centre for an instadate drink ... nice view of central Jakarta. Food here was okay. They have live music too.

Lyon (restaurant):

Decent French restaurant in Maradrin Oriental Hotel. Expect to drop about 1 million rupiah per person.

Sky Pool Bar - Kempinski (bar):

Nice spot to take in the centre of Jakarta from. It is quiet and romantic up there and has some "wow" factor (you know what it's for).

Signatures - Kempinski (restaurant):

Good restaurant. Not cheap but has good food and fairly good surroundings. There is a decent lounge next door too.

Tree House:

This place is Kemang is worth a visit if you are around the area. Chilled out vibe.

-----------------------------------------------------

THE BAD or BORING (places I will avoid in future)

Loewy:

Worst DJ I heard in Jakarta - just horrible. I hated the atmopshere too. What is that place? Bar or lounge? Seemed to be a pickup joint for desperate foreigners devoid of taste. There was close to zero talent there when I went ... though it was a quiet night. Maybe it's different other times but I hate hanging with other bule when there are so few in Jakarta. If I see a bunch of single white men I figure I am in the wrong place (and yes, I am a single white male). One drink and I was out of there. Got approached by a lady and she invited me to come with her friends to Dragonfly. See below.

Dragonfly:

Came here on a high after Loewy ready to party. The layout (as others have noted) absolutely sucks. I was sober and tripped three times in the first five minutes of being there. The door people were stuck up. The DJ was atrocious. The music was loud and shit, but to top it off there was an MC who just screamed into the mic the whole time. I wanted to shoot him. There were some ballers and celebs here with their own tables and beautful bored looking girls who looked like they would like to dance but they were stuck in their cubicle with their old/overweight/boring hosts. The rest of the crowd was about half very stuck up and half ok. Some girls were receptive, good looking and friendly but the music is too loud to talk and there is no room to dance. There is no quiet spot in this club I could see, so even if you got to the point of wanting to start a bit of a conversation there is no where really to go. The place has a large stage in the middle taking up some precious room and it had only gay guys dancing on it. WTF? This place is lousy. Maybe on other nights it is better. I found it utter shite although there was definitely talent there. Maybe coming earlier would yield results

Millenium:

Not to much to say about this place in North Jakarta. Pretty big drugged up place with mediocre music (at best). The one smaller floor was a little better but still was rubbish. A vender of fun in tablet form stood next to the bar with a plastic bag full of them in his hand selling. You don't see that kind of brazenness everyday. Obviously it is condoned by the establishment and the security (mafia run I'm told). I don't know what was in the "E" the crowd was on but apparently it made you want to put on sunglasses and sit (not dance). So I suspect it was laced with some opiate. I wouldn't touch that shit anyway. Left after an hour or so.

Malioboro:

I don't understand the appeal of these places expect for the desparate. They are designed to squeeze as much money out of you as possible and they are mafia run. What is so great about the pic above in this thread of the girls dancing on stage? I want her dancing to my music in my digs ... and without paying either. I don't get it. I went there to check it out. Sure, I am warmblooded and I like the sight of goodlooking girls but so fkin' what. I'm not 19 ... I 've seen that and more outlandish shit before. Yeah there are hot girls but I didn't like it. 'Nuf said.

CJ's in Mulia:

Went here with a girl. I danced a bit. I saw one girl I thought was proper fit. The rest were meh at best and all asking for cash I assume by the way they eyed me. The bar was very average and the music was cheesy. That's my take.

BATS in Shangri-La:

Went here with a very fly dancer I met and had a good time but the place is a joke. Full of lonely blokes with zero energy but plenty of cash. There was a band who were okay if halfhearted. Danced with .. or rather watched my date dance incredibly so that the whole club just watched her. The dancefloor was empty enough so we just adopted it as ours to the amusement of the pros watching who were giving me lots of thumbs up. I chatted up some pros there and then their "date" would come back and get pissed because I was dancing with "their' girl. That good for fun. As for BATS ... if there is nothing else open go check it out. That's it. Staff were cool.

Luv's Bar:

Avoid this place in Sudirman. The staff are hopeless and the place is dirty and without atmophere.

Colloseum:

This place in North Jakarta has pretentions of being a classy club but it really isn't. It has plenty of shiny surfaces and LED eye candy but little more. i saw a pretty good live band actually and then there was a rubbish DJ. They are sponsored by Jack Daniel's I think. It's not my kind of place but you could do worse I guess.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I think that about sums it up. I could post photos ... but it's a bit questionable on a public forum. Your level of hedonistic enjoyment in Jakarta is limited only by your imagination and energy I reckon. Possibilities are boundless. Anyway, some places I didn't make it to but would like to check out another time are:

Stadium
New Musro
Barcode
Blowfish
Centro
Kampus
Indochine
Goldencrown
Hard Rock Cafe
Triple 9

Marlioboro is the name of the shopping street in Yogya. The lounge itself you'd have to find.. its been months since i read it. Supposedly the malls are filled with chicks lookin for foriegn dick

I'm personally curious if anyone's been to Surabaya (on the northeast)

perspective, thank you and a rep point from me for this excellent post. My opinion about some clubs is different from yours, but that's fine. I will be referring to you list on my next trip and checking out the places you liked.

Can you share a little more info on where and how you met the girls and what kind of game worked best for you - day, night or online?

Thanks for the point there, Brodiaga. I reread your post and checked where we differed. It is highly possible I was a little harsh on some places I was only at one time for an hour or so (which I noted), so I might give places you recommended another try.

Regarding method, about equal meassures of each. The mall is a pretty great place to start. I tried either at Starbucks or the book shop and approached every body I liked who was alone. Not a single girl was rude. For one girl in Starbucks I just walked up to her and stood there just looking like I was trying to muster something Indonesian to say to her and she put down her phone and asked me to sit down in English before I managed a word. I really thought somebody should pinch me because it should be a bit harder than that. Some told me they were taken though of course. The trick here seemed to be to find someone waiting on someone else and get a number quickly before their friend shows up. I found asking for directions was not as good as a more direct approach to someone waiting. That being said, talent during the day was not that easy to find. Night time served up the majority along with online game. At night I just dance with each girl I like until a) her boyfriend shows b) she is bored/boring/turns away c) I start talking with her and get to know her. This method never got me into trouble with any boyfriends in Jakarta. The guys often enjoy watching another guy dance with their girl a little ... eventually they step in of course. The one time it got really sketchy was in Exodus where it was this nerdy but really sweet looking girl whose brother went insane. I danced and talked to his sister for a little (no touching) and he was drunk and just came up and wanted a fight. I kind of apologised, backed away, turned and immediately started dancing with another girl quite sexually and he lost his shit. I'm looking over at his entourage of about 10 gathered around him holding him back physically and I decide this was my cue to leave.

Hope that helps.
