Living in Manila...

I've only begun pipelining on filipino cupid this evening... OH MY GOD my FC account is blowing up as I type! I have NEVER seen anything like this... I'm like a deer in headlights, overwhelmed with incoming messages and likes.

I'm gonna have to start screening, and even then I'm gonna have to devise a system to manage all my contacts ... or this is going to get confusing fast! I just can't meet them all!

And the way these girls write to me? NOTHING like American women. I'm even questioning whether we are on the same PLANET!

^ There's plenty of fun on FC but you'll find a massive amount of bullshit too.

Gold diggers (as young as 18yo), girls that are well into the phone relationship thing and will message you 20 times a day right off the bat (including a lot of 'I love you honey'), but when you're about the set up the real thing or even as little as an actual date you'll find they're as timid or as conservative as fuck.

Once you're on the ground you'll find that you need a very large amount of filtering on FC. You filter other behaviors than you would filter in the US that's true, but you'll still find that if you don't filter massively, you'll be tangled up in a lot of interactions that are annoying and do not go where you want them to go.

Once you get the hang of it there's definitely plenty of good stuff there in my experience, but don't be fooled by the overload of reactions. A large amount of it is just noise when it comes to actual notches, or finding a decent girl for something more (if you're into that).

It's also quite difficult to find a reasonable priced condo in makati greenbelt area less than 50 USD a day. So if you are on a budget, manila isn't ideal.

Basic studio at the Gramercy: 28000 PHP / month ($20/day). Comes with rooftop lounge, gym, pools, spa, wifi, laundry service, etc.

Most rentals here ask for 1 year minimum contract. I looked hard to find something under 35000/month but it's payed off so far.

And dont give them your cash until you got all luggage in hand.
Also, the taxi driver originally tried to charge me over 1200 pesos to the fort from the airport, ended up talking down to 650

Good advice. I'm starting to filter right off the bat... given the volume, I have to.

First, I've been telling them I will be in Manila next month and I'm looking for someone to meet up with me, show me around, etc. Also, by location... if they are not in Manila, I either don't reply back or ask them if they will be in Manila when I'm there. If they are in Manila, I ask them if they know the area I'm staying in.

Second, I ask them if they have skype and try to get them on there asap. I'll also be asking for their facebook to confirm their pics are real.

Got a taxi from the airport for Makati for less than 300. Don't remember the exact price. Went upstairs to departures and got a cab dropping someone off and he agreed to use the meter. Though pretty sure he hit me for 100 pesos on a 40 peso tollway.

Tinder I get 10x the matches I did in Bkk. It's too much to deal with really. I'm going to only swipe right on the hottest girls or I'll be flooded.

Finding Filipina girls to be much more fun personality wise than Thai girls. Much more flirty. Though my sample size is still very small.

Paying more than 400 for a taxi to Makati and the Fort is naive. Don't let the taxis get away with this or else they will continue to exploit foreigners.

Why are people bargaining and not insisting on the meter before leaving the airport? Always know what the price should be before getting in a taxi.

This is true for any country in the world, not just Manila. Just go on wikitravel's respective page for a city you plan on visiting and they will usually have decent info on the taxi fares from the airport in the 'get in' section.

Rio: The Skyway toll fare should be 20P. You can always request that they not take the Skyway if you don't want to pay. I don't think the taxis at the Departures level are more honest, although the fares should be cheaper (200P vs 300P) to Makati (white vs yellow cabs). It always helps to take a picture of the license plate before getting into the cab to let them know you're on top of your shit.

Also, with the Tindies you can get them to come directly to your apartment. Most of them will say yes to this without much resistance, which is good and bad since they're probably fucking 30 other dudes but are remarkably easy.

I bet the good English is a pleasant surprise coming from Thailand.

Why even bother with normal taxis when there's Uber, GrabTaxi, and Easy Taxi?

Do you guys set up a separate facebook just full of Filipino girls? I don't want them seeing too much info on my normal facebook nor filling it with 100 filipino girls. But then if my facebook is completely empty and only Filipino girls it might look suspect to them.

Here is uber pricing:

BASE FARE PHP 40
PHP 2 PER MINUTE
PHP 5.70 PER KILOMETER

Basically you could spend an hour going 20 kilometers and it would cost you PHP 274 total which is just under $7 USD. Sounds insanely cheap.

Of course. Always keep that shit separate from your real contacts. Did you really have to ask? [Image: lol.gif]

Asking for a meter from the airport will not help you as some airport taxis have high fare per km. took 2 rides from the airport to makati, one cost me 250p and one 500p, both with meter and both were taken from the official taxi stand there. both took the same route, with skyway. there's some distinction between the airport taxis which skipped me. Better ask how much per km.

I was going to get a separate facebook account just for random girls, but Facebook now owns whatsapp, and my whatsapp is for the number connected to my main Facebook account. I've seen new friend recommendations on FB based on my whatsapp contacts, so the girls will probably get my main FB account as a recommendation or find it elsewhere (look up my phone number, for example). Has anybody had that problem?

I'm too ashamed to say it, but last time in Manila i was charged over 1000 pesos from the airport to the fort. On the meter. I paid, because i was tired and jet lagged and didn't want to argue, just wanted to get settled asap. It was a white taxi from the departures level btw.

Rent:
28,000 php a month that's only if you sign a yearly contract like u said.
Short term would be like 11,000 a week.

Most travelers can't stay more than 1-2 weeks.
So 50 usd is quite normal.

If you live here long term and work here that's a different story. Rents can be much much cheaper.

Don't take the white taxis. I also paid 500 php to Gremacy.
Take the yellow taxis.

It's essential to know what the fare should be. If you have done some research and think that the fare should be around 350, then if it is 1000 you know that it's a mistake.

Ultimately, these taxis are just taking advantage of foreign tourists that don't know better. That, and the majority of us don't care since $15 isn't much worse than $5 for a ride in a taxi from an airport.

I always take a picture of the license plate of the taxi when I'm a bit nervous myself, and it always keeps the driver in his place.

This thread could apply to any city really. I just landed in Santo Domingo and the taxis tried to charge me 40-50$ USD. I know that the locals pay 800-1000 Pesos ($20), so I tell them that. They don't cheat me or trick me and respect me because they know I'm not a clueless tourist they can take advantage of.

Its pretty good right now. Without looking it up, its about high 80s during the day and low 80s at night. Last time I was here was in June and the weather now is waaaay nicer, much contributed to nasty humidity. Usually people will always tell you December and January are the best months..but they are peak season so I assume higher travel and accomodation rates.

I've never even contemplated doing this. Can't you just make them into "acquiantences" or a separate hidden friends group? Thats what I did in Vietnam cause I got pummeled out there too. Makes easier to delete later on too

Way too much hassle mate. Facebook is practically designed to catch you out with these things. Last thing you need is some crazy chick spamming all your real friends. It has happened to several members here if my memory serves me right.

Just setup another account with a false name and use that for all your game stuff. I even go a step further and put in false university info, imaginary work details etc. Easier that way.

Also, I don't know about you, but I would rather not have my family or former colleagues see a bunch of random Filipina 18 year olds all over my profile. But that's just me!

Yeah, have had the exact same problem. Even though I have another Facebook account I use for random girls, they still managed to find me because of the Whatsapp/FB connection. I think this only happens when the phone number added to your FB account matches your WhatsApp number, but I could be wrong.

I have 2 Facebook accounts, and neither of them have a phone number added to them... But still, somehow Facebook first started to suggest me friends from the first account as 'people I may know'... I kept ignoring them... Then, it started suggesting my second account to friends on my first account!!!

Alarm bells time....

So now the second account doesn't have my photo as the profile picture... Because there is no way people can associate the name with me unless they see my photo there..

Did you use a different email to each of them ? What I'd hate most about making a 2nd facebook is exactly that.

Does using the same computer to constantly log in to both not influence the friend suggestions as well? It seems like they always find a way to link you to other people.
