Modafinil

So I decided to try some Armodafinil to see what the hype was about.

Yesterday around noon I popped half a pill (75 mg). The effect was very subtle, I just felt more focused. I was very awake and alert, I wasn't able to get to sleep until 5 AM this morning and only slept until 8 AM.

Woke up and took a full dose 150 mg. Same effect, subtle focus and concentration.

I have now been awake for nearly 40 hours on only 3 hours of sleep. I don't feel tired.

In terms of mental agility, it doesn't seem to have increased. My focus and concentration are slightly better, but nothing to run home about.

The biggest effect is just lack of cognitive decline when getting tired. I've gotten only 3 hours of sleep this weekend and I feel like my brain is functioning near 100%.

Will keep experimenting.

I'm trying Provigil from Modup.

It arrived fairly quickly from India (I got expedited shipping). I believe it took 5 or 6 days to get here. What's hilarious is that it was in town a whole day before it was delivered, and then they tried delivering it when no one was here to sign it so I had to pick it up the day after.

I tried a quarter pill and didn't notice a whole lot. I got a form of tunnel vision and then went out drinking that night and got super smashed off like eight beers.

I tried a half a pill (200 mg pill). Didn't get any kind of lift, mental fatigue went away, concentration improved, and general initiative to finish tasks went way up. Adderall makes me an academic superman, modafinil was maybe a third as effective but I might be under-rating it. All the work I did I received back in the A and B range.

I got a number of small projects done that day, then I lifted for an hour (a fine workout), then slept for 12 hours, probably because I smashed the weights very hard.

As far as I can tell, if you don't give the pill something to do, you're not going to notice a hell of a lot. Modafinil makes me feel like I'm 11 years old again, interested in the most mundane shit with the capability to focus on it for hours and hours at a time and learn it quicker.

I'm going to try it again in a couple hours after a nap to see if the real strength lies in the way it combats fatigue/sleep deprivation.

have like 70 pills i brought back from a trip, ive take 7-8 of those pills. Whether i take a half pill ( 100mg) or full pill (200 mg) one thing I notice is that when its time for me to go to sleep at night is when my mind becomes the most hyperactive while on modafinil. I could literally get back up and bust out 3 hours of shit at night and be focused.

Yesterday night, i had the idea to google about escorts, just out of curiosity. This turned out to be not a good idea because I spent 3 hours on my phone looking up shit about escorts. Then I went to sleep for 2 hours and since my mind was filled with what I had just "researched" I went back to it for another 1.5 hours until my alarm went off in the morning.

So lesson is, be careful with distractions while on it, although it's not as bad during the day for me with the pill.

I tried a quarter pill (so 50mg) my first time with Modafinil. I definitely noticed some effects, but they weren't overwhelming.

The last couple weeks I worked up to half a pill (100mg). Half a pill was powerful, but it was a very subtle increase in productivity. I noticed that I was getting more done, but it was a slow, steady burn of concentration with an utter lack of mental (or even physical) fatigue. I did notice some anxiety under the influence of 100 mg. It felt like I didn't want to talk to people much and I had this burning desire to do something to occupy my thoughts.

It is now 4 AM and I woke up at 2:45 (3, maybe 4 hours of sleep) to finally try out the full 200mg pill. I feel like I have the quickening. I read studies where some folks respond much better to either 100mg or 200mg, we'll see what all I get done this day to find out.

I think that even moderate experimentating with Modalert drugs can initiate symptoms of insomnia and other health concerns over the long term. The drug should only be used as it is prescribed for narcolepsy and it was also designed for keeping astronauts constantly alert during space missions.

There are good reasons why it is not sold over the counter. It is not a drug to be used and experimented with casually.

My two cents

^personal experience, link to source, or just opinion?

I'd start with minimal dose possible. ~25mg feels like a small coffee without the jitters and wears off in about 4 hours. ~50mg is for being functional on little sleep. If you're well slept, experiment with the smallest dosage possible for a motivational kick in the ass.

Hey polar yeah some years ago I tried Modafinil. The first few times it was interesting. Then I realized being wired like that eventually leads to needing to catch up on more sleep anyways.

Its a strong drug. It stimulates the nervous system enough so that from a standard dosage a person is completely unable to sleep for about 18 hours after ingesting the dose. That is about 4 hours longer then we should naturally be awake. It all adds up.

Why not just drink good quality Chinese green or black tea? Those are much safer, more normal, and more effective stimulants in my opinion.

I just asked a search engine if Modafinil causes insomnia, and it does look like there are several articles written about just that. I did not read any of them, but think twice about how safe those pills are. I purchased mine directly from some shady pharmacy in India. (Laughs) They sent them illegally to me in the mail. It was shady...

I take 200mg of Modalert in the morning after breakfast, usually about 8:30am. I'm usually asleep by 12pm at the latest. The first time after a while off Modafinil sometimes it takes longer.

I don't find that it interferes with my sleep at all. In fact I usually seem to get better sleep the night after I take it.

Wanted to post an update. For the past few weeks I've been experimenting with 150 mg of Armodafinil in the morning Saturday and Sunday. Basically using the weekend to get a lot of side projects done.

It does work, I feel more focused, time seems to go by slower and I do get more done than usual. It gives me the urge to finish a task, it's as if I have to take the task to completion.

I have noticed some side effects. First, I tend to get dry mouth from it even if I drink a lot of water. I tend to eat less, and have an aversion to fatty foods.

The most serious however is that I believe it lowers your immune system. I had a cold that went away a full week before I started. Since being on Modafinil every weekend for the past few weeks I've had a constant cough that I just can't shake. I don't remember the last time I've had a cough that lasted this long. It could be a coincidence as I don't 'feel sick' per se, but it also could be related to the Armodafinil. That's the only thing that's changed in my routine, I've been eating healthy meals and lifting and training regularly.

Overall, after a few weeks my conclusion is it is pretty effective, but not a miracle drug. I do believe you can achieve the same result naturally, and it's biggest effect is really the lack of mental fatigue. I am a little concerned about the side effects I've experienced and I'm going to watch and see if they subside and whether it's worth it to continue.

The dry mouth (even if you drink a lot of water) is a symptom of diabetes. Another symptom of diabetes is insomnia.

For some reason I believe this category of alertness drugs are slightly more harmful then we currently realize.

Modafinil is a strong drug. In the past I have taken 1/2 tablet dosages and was completely wired for up to 20 hours or more.

Wanted to give another update.

The past week I restarted my vipassana meditation practice to rebuild my concentration power. As a background I used to meditate for 30+ minutes daily and have done a 3 day intensive retreat. Unfortunately, life had gotten busy and I stopped for a while.

I've compared my focus and concentration with what I get from Modafinil and the meditation has been superior hands down. I should have never stopped.

I'll be completely discontinuing Modafinil use, however I'm happy that I tried it.

Neo are you saying Modafinil helped balance and calm your body mind and spirit. How is that even possible? Modafinil is a total extended shock to the central nervous system making it impossible to sleep. That is not zen it is more like sucking on a nine volt battery for 24 hours.

Your post confused me.

Why do all these guys at RVF who are mostly in their 20's need pills for energy and concentration? You do not need those drugs. You are already at your peak performance years. I do not care how many angry pill heads shout me down.

Adderall and Modafinil are stronger pills then you realize. They are causing more health problems for you then you realize. A lot of the health problems can show up months and years down the line.

Be very cautious about what chemicals you put into your bodies.

You need to reread my post. For the past week, I meditated instead of using Modafinil and stated that the meditation was vastly superior for my concentration and focus. Then in the last line I stated I was discontinuing Modafinil use.

Kinko,

I believe that your concerns are overblown here. Modafinil gained FDA approval in 1998, and has been used by tens of thousands of people with little to no side effects. For several it has increased their cognitive performance and improved their life for the better.

While I made the decision to try it and decided that I would instead pursue natural means, that doesn't mean that many others haven't had success with the drug. I can't say how a medication works for everyone, that's impossible.

I did not find any evidence of diabetes being induced, or extremely negative side effects even for users who have been on for years. The worst I found were apparent cases of SJS, which were debatable as several other medications can induce this type of life threatening skin condition. (Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen to name two.)

There is absolutely no indication that forum members are addicted to Modafinil and using it for everything. The reason it remains popular is that this is a forum of men who want to achieve and succeed, and some are willing to take the extra step to get there.

You're thinking about apple cider vinegar and baking soda

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Earlier in this thread I advocated strongly for adrafinil (converts to modafinil) as somewhat of a miracle drug with very limited downsides. Just wanted to say my opinion has slowly changed. I can no longer advocate people take this stuff regularly, and have changed my mind about there being no crash. Because of the long half life (~15 hours) the crash doesn't really come to day 2 or 3 afterwards. Even so, it is very subtle. But with repeated use I increasingly noticed the pattern of anxiety and negative mood emerging on day 3 after use.

Because of the way it works (no real "high" and long half life), it is easy to take wayyy too much, especially if you take it daily as it builds up in your system. Less in more.

Also, in my experience it will really mess up your sleep over time. I now think this substance is best used rarely only when you have a serious need for it.

I am thinking about getting Methylin Er. it says it helps with focus and daytime nap. After I get home around 4pm, I feel tired and can't resist to take a nap for few hours. I hope something like this would help. It's only $30 for 30 pills at 20mg at walgreens. any experiences?
