Samseau, how often do you use baking soda?

I've gone 3 days now with water only and it's still going strong. It may be a little greasy tomorrow, but no major problems so far compared to when I last went this long with water only.

once per week

I just started this. Now I shave my head bald wit ha razor blade, gillete to be exact.. I am not going as good. After 2 days, I started getting severe dandruff becuase I was not using the shampoo to hydrate the hair.

I was thinking of applying sorbolene, but that would defeat the purpose of the no shampoo challenge.

What should I do ?

When I got my head shaved, I was advised to put in yogurt for a little bit before the shower. They said it cuts down on scalp flakiness and gets your scalp used to being bald. I would say either that or regular moisturizer/coconut oil and see what happens.

My own report - I like the increased sculptability, but I think my hair stinks. I don't have baking soda and the only stuff I saw was some tiny packets in some store here, which may not even be pure baking soda. I couldn't even find baby powder, but that's just an added expense/problem. I might just start shampooing again.

what if I put hair gel in my hair, will doing no shampoo do some serious damage? Been using gel for about 15 years on a daily basis (alcohol free)

I did this for roughly 2 months with no success. I stopped now.

When I did it, I started off shampooing every week, then every 2 weeks, then went 2 months with no shampoo. My hair did not look any better. It became itchy and I know if you touch your hair constantly, it is not good for it and I was kind of forced into doing this a lot when the itching became so necessary.

Did you use a scalp brush, shower two times or more per day? Instead of tapering off the shampoo, taper off using a conditioner to deal with the initial smell and oilyness. Then dust any remaining itchy areas with baking soda as needed, coco oil before bed once a week and you should be gtg - the scalp brush will help your itchy head.

Never used a scalp brush. And showered once per day. Well I wsh using a shampoo & conditioner together (all in 1) to start off with before I transitioned to no shampoo at all.

dandruff in my experience is due to diet. I take a multi, a fish oil, and two Cal mag d pills. I take each group of pills with a meal spaced apart. the Cal mag d pills with breakfast, fish oil with lunch etc. And I have not had dandruff for months since starting this regiment. Pm me for more details. I've also used to have disgusting dandruff. I wash and condition daily

I tried out the coconut oil but it got too sticky and the smell put people off. I like that I can still use a moisturiser so I am using sorbolene and it moisturises the scalp well without that smell.

Plus I am shaving my scalp every two days properly. I ma shaving while showering so there is a constant flow of water on my head. Obviously I cannot use shaving cream.
If we lives close by I'd lend you baking power. We have plenty of packets lying around.

MY scalp was fucking horrible until I started using the baking soda/coconut oil shampoo.

I did that and after 2 days all my problems were gone. I stayed doing it for a week to be sure to get any fungal problems I may have sorted, and have now just gone 5 days using only water and haven't had a single flake on my scalp.

Put it this way, after 3 days of using just water, my scalp was flaking and crumbling everywhere. After 7 days of that shampoo, and 5 days of only water, it's absolutely fine.

How are you guys using coconut oil?

Spread through the palms and smoothed over dry, damp, or wet hair?

During a shower, or after the shower?

After showering, wait until its not wet but still damp, spread about a tablespoons worth in my hand which I run thru my hairs from the base to the tips then use the scalp brush to even things out. Sleep with a thick towel under my head and rinse hair in the morning, you won't get all of the oil out but it still looks good and it doesn't smell bad - I use the cheapest brand on the shelf ' Lou Ann's '

Bros, it's very helpful to use (ironically enough) a shampoo brush.

You can find these at a dollar store or drug store.

Use them to massage your scalp. It will stimulate the oils in your scalp. This will keep your scalp healthy It also brushes out the soot and dirt you get from the environment.

It will also stimulate hair growth by increasing blood flow to your entire scalp.

Massage your hair with the brush for a minute or so under running water in the shower.

I've noticed that I sweat a lot more through my forehead now .

Which is weird because I don't remember this happening when I used Shampoo.

Halp!

Hair may be thicker, thus keeping forehead warmer? Not sure how you wear your hair, but perhaps layer it/thin it out in some way at the front if it's sitting over your head?

Shit, my hair is looking great. I think I'm on week 3/4 and it's starting to look like it did 5/6 years ago.

I've been looking for something for the past 3 years or so to sort my hair out which has inevitably made it all worse. I would never have believed not washing it and a bit of baking soda and coconut oil could do such wonders.

They do sell organic shampoo without SLS in it, which is the main culprit in drying out the scalp. I use a couple different organics, and also organic conditioner (kiss my face forever brand.)

Anyone have the solution to hair gel?

Ie: do you not need hair gel anymore because it becomes naturally styled?

Will try this.

I seriously think after some time on non-shampoo your hair can be styled better than any hair product allows.

When its damp after using a towel to take out most of the water you can shape, mold it however you want. It will stay that way when it dries.

^ okay but does it look flat?

Basically how do I get it to have the "wet look" without a bunch of chemicals?

I'll see what it looks like in 8 weeks, just never saw it addressed here (only mentioned).

Being getting compliments on my hair of late. Less dandruff and hair no longer fluffy. Starting to think my idea of it been a placebo is bullshit.

Can you give specific instructions for the baking soda/coconut oil combo? How much of each ingredient? Any other ingredients (water)? If so, how much? Is it all just mixed together in a paste?

Small amount of baking soda, mixed with just enough water to make it a paste, lathered through wet hair, then oil is applied to hair, and, finally, rinse/massage it all out together.

This is what I've been doing, whilst increasing time between washes. Probably been 3 days since I last washed it, and it still feels like it was just done. I've also started brushing it recently, so that might be helping slightly with the oil buildup

As Architekt says, just a small amount. I don't know the size of American coins but something like a 50p coin amount.

Use whatever amount of oil you think is appropriate. For the first 3 days I dipped two fingers into the tub, let it drip off a bit and then applied it. Last 4 days I dipped one finger in and spread it around my hand.
