CS is hit and miss. In Mexico, I got maybe 80% response rate last year. I dont know if he same would happen this year. Here in Bangkok, I have no respone at all. I keep my message short. In town for a month you seem interesting we should get some coffee somewhere. 8/10 in Guadalajara responded. 0/12 in Bangkok.

I stopped messing with it. CS, POF, and OKC are starting to fall off for me. 5 hours a week and no bangs dont seem to be worth the trouble.

It's really crazy, in Portugal the guys are acting like idiots all the time too... The guys do not even have the decency to send them a private message and revert to the girls in the main page itself, where everyone can spot them! And the messages are somtimes hilarious ("hey, you can stay at my place, as long as you go out to this latino bar with me and dance together", and crazier stuff).

Yup. I see that all the time too. Some guys will just post "hey, just sent you a message!" I'm thinking what idiots. Why even reply to her on the forum? Just send a private message. She'll see it.

If guys post replies that are too over the top the white knights in the forum will call them out with the creeper label.

I think in their innocent minds, the guys think that if they answer first to the girl in the forum, other guys will not "dare" to send another message since she is already "owned" by them, because they were the first. Or that there would exist some kind of ethic in CS, like first come first served, lol. It's rather hilarious to see what's going on and hopefully there are not many smart and cool ppl using CS in Lisbon until now!

Couchsurfing has always had sex mixed in with it, like it or not. In the past things were less sexually charged and it was easier to have more genuine interactions with people from there. More genuine interactions = Less pressure = more sex. Over the years the amount of interesting girls that respond to my profile have fallen off. You can still meet cool people on the site.

From what I see travelling internationally it seems that more and more people are disillusioned with things in the CS world especially the charismatic personalities that used to lead things. It didn't help that the Couchsurfing organisation kicked out an influential Berlin ambassador that I used to work with when I was in Berlin that had raised some security and maintenance of personal information issues that the site had/has.

I am also seeing the same thing happening in my town... Aside from those corporate matters and the loss of some charismatic figures, I think CS has implemented some changes that have contributed to it becoming more similar to a dating site.

The most important one was allowing people (ok, girls) to publicy announce that they're going to visit a city and that they're looking for a couch. I remember that some 2 years ago, they would have to send a couchrequest, and that the hosts did not have a chance of actively inviting girls who they are aware were going to visit their hometown. By then, I surely received much more invitations than now.

And the only way that these creepy guys could contact girls would be by actually proposing to travel to their hometowns, which costs money and time. Hence they would not have an incentive to massively send messages to girls who they knew they were not giong to meet. They could also try to contact local girls, but the effectiveness of this tactic (at least on a one to one msg and not in CS groups) would not have much more chances of success as sending a random message through fb to a local.

Perhaps the best route for CS would be for it to take a step back and remove this open CS request function, as well as the possibility of sending messages to the main page of the city. These new options, while enabling more ways to meet ppl and interact, are turning CS into a normal dating website with some features of tourism.

Some years ago, ppl were not different than they are now. But what perhaps made CS be different, was the fact that these kind of behaviours were not publicly disclosed, and their was a certain "illusion" (as they say in cinema, a "suspension of desbelief") that it was a 100% "pure" website. This illusion needs to be reborn again

Right now they only care about growth of membership and not the quality of people coming to the site. They went from a million members in 2009 to 5 million now. I'm sure the admins of CS if they're honest with themselves know that the possibility of sex with vacationing girls is a huge motivation in having men sign up. Whether they like it or not. A segregated couchsurfing where women could only host women would implode. Publicly of course they'll say it's not a hook up site, but as long as membership is exploding as investors want, they aren't going to pull out the things that make it feel like a hookup site. I set up my fake female profile in two cities and it got around 60 replies between the two of them, not one was from a woman.

With the rapid growth and few new users having any idea what the value of the community is, it's inevitable that there's going to be some sort of tragedy that becomes public. Like some psychopath may infiltrate. When I made the fake profile, a huge number of guys had no references, no vouches or anything. A girl would have to be crazy to stay with a lone guy who has no connections on the site. But they do it regardless and something really bad is bound to happen that will make news and scare a lot of women away.

I've gotten a few good leads, make outs and one bang from CS (Couchsurfing). Its handy, especially since I get nervous with cold approach and night game. You can choose to do a group hang out like an event, or if a girl posts that she's looking for someone to show her around, PM her.

Sure we do, but chances of bangind are not as high as when you host them... There is more competition from other guys and afterall it's just a regular date that you could set through Badoo or other channel. But there are plenty of opportunities now for dating CS girls without hosting them, you only need to check the main page of your city.
