If You Were 18 Again, What Would You Do Differently?

At 18 I was a VERY different person that believed sex was wrong before marriage (*cringe*), drugs were wrong, alcohol was wrong, being a man was wrong. Oh how I've come a loooooooooong way!

Gringo,

Could you talk more about your real estate success? Perhaps make a thread on it?

Yes I'll make a thread in the near future. If you're interested in real estate, for now, just read as much as you can at the public library. Start with Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad.

Great.

Interesting how you mention Kiyosaki, I've read that he is a fraud and was never a success businessman before he wrote his books. Please mention at some point how he has helped you.

John T Reed is a hater. Not only that, he uses that hate to make money or himself. I would take what he says with a grain of salt.

I'd tell my past self that the reason all his classmates look like him is because I used the time machine to go back 70,000 years and sex up the Mitochondrial Eve in order to see what would happen.

I'm not going to bother reading about people who try to discredit him. All that you need to know is that I wouldnt be a retired real estate mogul without that book. Don't bother reading his other books, they're pretty much the same thing.

Lets not lose the focus of this thread, Ive been following it with every comment. lol

Kawasaki is like Donald Trump, in fact theyve partnered many times. Most of his books are ghost written and yes, he got rich through marriage and has had every business he started go bad. But Im a HUGE fan of Rich Dad Poor Dad. The book literally pulled me out of the rat race. Dont let the man ruin the message. If you want to know more just read all the Amazon quotes rating his book. But please leave those discussions at another forum not here.

@Gringoed - I would love to see your thread on real estate.

I commented already on what I would tell my 18 yr old self, but I would add to my comment "find out how to make $ online." learn web programing, design, marketing, and stay away from stock market hype. Dont be stupid and major in marketing, learn it in your spare time and figure out how to monetize through a website. And start young, take the plunge, start at least one website and keep it afloat as long as you can. Your 30% more likely to have a 2nd success after having a first success so start small and increase your chances.

I'd move to London and start a career in sales then start a business a few years later ( around the age of 21 ) , first while still working in sales, then I'd focus completely on my business. Focus 90% of my attention to my career.
Eat healthy (paleo diet).
Read 30-50 pages every day.
Learn Mandarin, maybe: Spanish, Russian, Portuguese also.
Go out to meet women 8 hours/week.
Do yoga, meditation, mma.

If somebody does this, I guarantee that he's gonna be a fucking monsta by the age of 25.

I think the OP is looking for realistic stuff....

Own your own business in London at the age of 21?!?!?

You have a limited mind based on this comment of yours.

Just telling someone to own there own business (assume successful right?) at the age of 21 is not very realistic imo

How many successful entrepreneurs under the age of 21 do you know?

Even if someone gets the funds to start their own business, most small business FAIL within the first year or two.

So if you are gonna suggest someone start their own business how about be alittle more specific?

Im sure the OP has heard about and knows about "starting" your own business...........

You are very lucky to be in such forum in a very young age. This forum has life information, so make sure you use it well, you will succeed if you know how to interpret, collect and apply the information that you have here. I still remember when i was 17 and i would go to college advisers and ask them about what course i should do in the future, they would tell me, just do something you like (stupid fucking advisers).

But still im not that many years behind, i am 25 and some information here has already been golden and i have already applied it (entering the oil industry for example, thanks to reading Ali post).

Everything!

But that should not be the question,as you can't go back, and too much time thinking about it is wasting the present in regret.

What can you and WILL you change NOW ..the moments you can actually actively change?

That's the real question to be answered.

I dont think i have answered the OP original question, i think this thread can be very useful for younger people.

I would tell my younger self to focus more on education and not just business, combine both hardcore (although i graduated, i could do better in terms of education).

I would have chosen a technical route instead of a business one in terms of education (although it wasnt that bad because im currently working in a technical field).

I would travel less to ''popular countries'' and travel more to countries where i actually liked the local women. I think i have wasted too much time travelling around europe, i could be travelling to DR back then, but fuck it, i didnt even know anything about DR.

Find a personal trainer and work hardcore..push myself beyond my limits to work everyday.

But apart from that, i think i have lived a great fucking life so far.

Upon reading Solomon II's post The Elevator Speech it made me do a lot of self-reflection and contemplation. If you could go back in time, what would you tell the 18-year-old version of yourself? If you could be 18 again, what would you do differently? Would tell yourself to live life regret-free? What mistakes would you warn yourself about? What wisdom will you have learned to impart?

The link wasn't working - so I found it here. http://www.the-spearhead.com/2010/11/12/...or-speech/

In case the link dies I pasted the speech below.

There are no good women, and there are no bad women. There are just women. Women do what they want when they want and justify their actions later. That's why it's important to find a woman of character who is naturally inclined to do the things which are wholesome, respectful, productive, and conducive to rearing the offspring produced by your potential union.

A woman's character is of utmost importance. A woman's past actions matter. In fact, her past matters more than anything else because it reveals the character she developed during her impressionable years. A woman may change what she does, but she can't change who she is or repair her reputation. Like hot or cold water eventually comes back to room temperature when no external forces are present, so a woman returns to her base character level when no external forces are present. If you choose to be a woman's external force in order to exact a temperature change within her, don't be surprised when she reverts to her room temperature character the moment you're not around.

What defines a woman of good character varies from man to man. Know which character traits are important to you. Study to learn the signs of these traits, and study harder to learn how manipulative women mimic these traits when they are not in possession of them. Judge harshly and without apology. Recognize flaws within yourself and actively work to right them, but never let a woman convince you to consider your own personal flaws as a valid reason to overlook hers.

Recognize, protect, and celebrate a woman of good character, for she is exceedingly rare. Recognize, expose, and shame a woman of low character for she is a parasite driven by consumption and will kill her host. Above all, know that a woman of character and a woman of risible morals are often indistinguishable at first glance. Only the erudite man committed to attaining the knowledge and skills to determine one from the other stands a chance of reaching his full potential.

Fate whispers to the warrior, "You cannot withstand the storm." And the warrior whispers back, "I am the storm."

If You Were 18 Again, What Would You Do Differently?

Listen up, anyone who is 18: what I would do is lower my standards!!

When you're 18-22 it's sort of a free-for-all if you're in college. Most people aren't quite paired up yet. Plus you still have access to high school girls.

I didn't realize it at the time but back then I was endlessly meeting women. This would not be the norm for my life. But what I wanted (and what I got) was a high-quality "status babe" -- an upper middle class "nice girl" who I could sort of show off. So I spent the majority of my college years with just one woman (I messed around and dated during periods when we were split up temporarily, but it wasn't what it could have been).

Where I went wrong was passing up women who practically threw themselves at me for petty reasons. I didn't understand that while snaring a high-status girlfriend would be relatively easy as an adult, I would NEVER ever be as knee-deep in teenage snatch as I was in college.

So I missed opportunities with girls because I thought they were too artsy and weird, too low-class, too ditsy, not pretty enough, or too tall (a pair of roommates who were both into me -- don't ask). I even passed up women for reasons of ethnicity and race and being smokers, sad to say. At the time, I thought I was a free-thinking rebellious kid but in retrospect I was a lot like my snobby parents. I just didn't realize it.

After college, you're never going to be able to step out of your dorm room and get instant access to a wide variety of women. It's in your best interest to capitalize on this. There will be time enough for the wife material afterwards. Someone should have told me this. Actually, people did tell me this, but I was too into getting sex from the girl who would eventually dump me and split for California. I wonder now if I'd dumped her and sewn my wild oats if things would have ended up different.

I would work harder in college, take five classes a term, and apply for the Rhodes scholarship.

I'm 17 right now, I'm just trying to make sure when I look back at this time, I don't have regrets. I'm just trying to find that balance between school, partying and gaming. It's worked out so far and there's some good advice on here to follow.
