The questions the jury are asking the judge are really dumb considering the facts. Someone on that jury really wants a guilty verdict based on facts not admissible in the deliberations.

Queensland is far and away Australia's most socially conservative (read: common sense) decent-sized state (sorry, Tasmania, you don't count). Western Australia votes conservative most of the time, too, though a big part of that is their beef with more of their tax money going to poorer states like South Australia and Tasmania.

Queensland's Gold Coast is flashy and superficial, but still far, far less leftist than Sydney or Melbourne.

A 12-person jury is a very tiny small sample of a state, yet if there's any state where Tostee is most likely to be found not guilty, it's Queensland.

If he's convicted soon of either manslaughter or murder, the chances for similarly charged guys south of the state border are pretty fucked indeed.

But it's not stupidity though. It is the true darkness of human nature.

On the one hand they want something to be true. On the other are the facts.

At this point, every human being has a choice. Face the unpleasant truth, or start spinning your hamster to make the facts fit your preferences.

You could call this dilemma the starting point of every sort of evil on the face of the earth. It is a rational and a moral choice.

Face a truth that could inconvenience you, or just hypnotize yourself into believing that what you want to be true, no matter how absurd it is, is actually true.

Smart people do this all the time, and because they have a better mastery of language than dumb people, are actually better at it.

Every word I read about this in the media is trying to push me towards the idea that this dude is in some way guilty, trying to make me white knight for her in my mind. It is superstitious thinking. This girl was a disaster, and did something stupid, and paid horribly for it. End of story.

We want to appease the gods or some nonsense by making a sacrifice of this cheesy dude. It is like a bizarre ritual that the collective has determined will wipe society, or something, of the collective guilt of the lost life of a young woman. Offer him up on a plate, the boogey man, and the debt of a lost life will be paid.

It is like we are trying to erect a bulwark against senseless waste by creating some sort of a spiritual melodrama with a hero and a villain, and punishment to make everyone feel better.

And it all goes back to that simple choice between a hard truth and an easy lie. Much of what we rail against on this forum comes down to this solitary internal act of will. A SJW or a feminist, or a Hillary supporter is only the end result of a lifetime of decisions like this. We are seeing them further down the line.

To be fair, we are in a time and place in history with what seem to be many intractable problems on the horizon and right in front of our faces, so it is getting harder to face the truth because the truth is getting harder.

Still, ultimately this is no excuse, and what doesn't get us now will get us later, and get us harder. Roosh and others have written about how all values are being turned upside down, and good is now evil and evil is now good, and not only that, the Old Testament prophets got a jump on this as well.

I think that all of this can be traced back to decisions made alone in a room by individuals in their minds, the decision between truth and a self hypnotic lie, and all that we see today are the ripples made by that decision and a million like it.

These jurors are choosing between facts and superstitions that rest somewhere inside them, feel-good superstitions, superstitions that are common to all of us in some inchoate way.

Not stupid. Foolish maybe. Lacking in character for sure.

Now the jury wanted to know if language or words could be considered force. The judge said no , only physical actions constitute force and reasonable physical acts to defend yourself do not constitute force. The jury deadlocked again and will reconvene tomorrow. I swear someone on that jury is twisting themself into mental knots trying to make this man's actions meet the elements for manslaugter, and the judge ain't having it. Too bad he could not have the option to pick a judge trial over a jury trial like we do in America, seems like he would have a better outcome that way...

Not guilty of murder, not guilty of manslaughter. No alternative charges seem to have been laid, so he's out and free ... insofar as the guy can be, given the rest of his life the MSM will be following him around and reminding him of this case. And he won't be able to ever put his side of the story in a TV interview setting for fear of saying something that would prompt them to charge him again - Queensland abolished double jeopardy protections a couple of years ago.

As everyone has been saying - if he hadn't had a recording he would have been pretty much toasted.

Gold Coast man Gable Tostee has been found not guilty of murdering Wellington woman Warriena Wright.

After a trial in the Brisbane Supreme Court a jury of six men and six women have just returned a verdict.

They have found Tostee not guilty of murder and the lesser charge of manslaughter, which was also an option for them.

Tostee and Wright's families were both in tears following the verdict.

Wright's family embraced tearfully in the courtroom.

Tostee also embraced his family and shook hands with his legal team.

Tostee then left the courtroom to another room with his family. He has not yet left the court building.

The jurors have been deliberating since early Monday afternoon on whether Tostee murdered Wright in August 2014.


Tostee and Wright had connected on dating app Tinder and hours after they met in person Wright died after plunging from Tostee's 14th floor apartment balcony.

Tostee pleaded not guilty to murder.

Tostee and his lawyer have just appeared before media in front of the courthouse.

Tostee said nothing but his lawyer said his client was "looking forward to getting on with his life".



The juror had posted a photo identifying her as being at the court and mentioning she was involved in deliberations.

After the verdict, the judge said the defence had asked for the jury to be discharged because of the Instagram post.

He declined but told the jury he was disappointed by the conduct.


Protestors have gathered outside court yelling "stop violence against women".

9 News reporters are speaking outside the court about how hard it was for the family of Wright to hear details of what happened the night the 26-year-old died.

"They wanted her remembered as they do - as a beautiful, bright spark."

9 News reporter Michael Best said Wright's family is expected to leave the court soon.

Best is speaking to a lawyer outside the courthouse, who said the jury had found Tostee wasn't responsible for Wright's death.

"It's as simple as that."

Best said the head of the homicide squad was expected to make a statement soon.

A 9 News reporter in the courtroom at the time of the verdict said Tostee put his head in his hands upon hearing he had been found not guilty.

"He was sitting quite still and the room was absolutely silent. There was so much tension there at the time."

The 9 News reporters said Wright's family "moved over to one side of the courtroom" following the verdict.

"They were all embracing, they were comforted by detectives."

Tostee's family were ushered away, the reporter said.

Another 9 News reporter just said Tostee had "gone across the road and into his lawyer's offices".

Earlier, the jury returned to court at 5.30pm.

Just after 3pm New Zealand time Tostee, his legal team and supporters, police, the family and friends of his alleged victim and the trial judge all reconvened in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

The Tostee jury entered its fourth day of deliberations today.

There were few clues as to what the 12 ordinary members of the public selected to hear the case had been grappling with.

On Tuesday, they told Justice John Byrne they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict, however, he sent them back to the jury room to continue deliberations in a bid to do so.

"Experience has shown juries can often agree if given enough time to consider and discuss the issues," he told them.

Jurors deliberated for an extra 90 minutes late yesterday but at 6pm asked to be sent home and will resume discussions this morning.
