Singapore or Kuala Lumpur: Promoted and moving to Asia

The end bit wasn't meant to attack you Cyclone, sorry it came off that way. I'm on not that much sleep and obviously have a strong opinion about this.

I hated my time in Singapore, and the perception that Singapore is this great paradise is part of the reason I had to be there in the first place. I want to give to the OP the perspective of someone who felt this way, and why, because I definitely was not the only one.

I'm not offended, just clarifying that you actually mean what you are writing
And I am personally suspicious that a man who banged nearly a hundred girls in a city would express such disdain for the women there. [Image: rolleyes.gif]

I always mean what I write, or I wouldn't write it.

Since this is probably your next question, none of them were hookers (never done that), and I can't think of a single one who would not be classified as physically attractive.

I've been exchanging PMs with a forum member about our experiences in Singapore, and at one point I wrote:
"Once I felt like it'd be damn near impossible in Singapore for what I want [to find a girl with LTR potential], which happened pretty quickly, my tolerance for everything else I disliked about [Singapore] plummeted. I suppose I could qualify the post with with flings/hookups vs quality/LTR."

So, for the benefit of the OP and others, I'll qualify my qualifier:

1) Though girls in Singapore are notably unattractive, in Singapore, if you want, you can bang some physically mediocre girls, some physically attractive girls, and, occasionally, some very physically attractive girls.

2) There is more to life than banging mediocre and physically-attractive-but-otherwise-wholly-undateable girls.

really, zero temptation???

are you telling me those hotties walking around are not temptation? or is it that you are not approaching.

I cannot say that I've done much in the way of approaching in Singapore, but I do find it doesn't seem to be a place where approaching is well received. AS girls seem to be busy or with groups of dudes?

Approaching on the streets is definitely not your best bet in Singapore. Direct game at cafes or bookstores yield better results. Nothing wrong with guys spitting direct game at these places, they appreciate the directness and would follow up if they're interested. At least there isn't time wasted wondering if she's interested or not. Singaporean girls tend to be pretty obvious to read. Malaysians on the other hand, are more street smart and thus harder to read. Some may be out just to get a free meal so I tend to be more flaky with my dates in Malaysia. I'll just move on if they give off the slightest hint of a gold digger. The large amount of talent on the road and disposable income relative to the weakened Ringgit doesn't justify putting in too much effort into a 6 or 7

That's interesting. I would think indirect game works well in these places as there are many people around and tight compressed environments.

Both works. I would figure indirect game works better in a cafe if the girl is seated right next to you. It would benefit you going indirect, going through other topics and conversation to get things going. If she's seated at a distance and you intend to go up to her, direct game would be alot more practical. No one comes up to someone 4 tables apart to ask for directions, that would be downright weird in Singapore of any context really.

I have alot of work recently and I always take them out to a cafe or something rather than staying at home because even if I'm not doing any serious gaming, its still good practice if you get a cute chick sitting alone beside you. During your breaks, spit some game and see where it goes, getting lucky is hardly by luck.

^The city and locals have their shortcomings, but he is essentially correct: Young western guys with just a modicum of game can do very nicely in Singapore.

True that it's not the place for "WGF" freebies or locals throwing themselves at you - for that you need to be in Manila or something - but if you can actually approach and not get sucked into the blackhole of trying to impress with cash (like every other boring western banker there) you can clean up. Seen it happen man.

Now, whether the city and vibe is to your tastes is another matter.

I think anyone who knows game wouldn't want to impress with cash. Lots of people are complaining the quality of women and also the intellectual capacity. Lacking three wilderness of Bangkok in terms of nightlife or the easiness of day game on streets are also factors

I would choose Kuala Lumpur

Singapore is a better city for sure, things work better and it's cleaner, however, it is boring as fuck. And it is also about the same cost as Australia when it comes to most things except drinking which is about double the cost of Australia. It's fucking expensive.

In KL you will get tons more bang for your buck. Food costs nothing, transport is very cheapand you will automatically be in the upper echelon of working professionals in KL. That won't be the same case in SG unless you earn >$200K per year.

Singapore has a no holds barred nightlife that changes rapidly and rapes your wallet. KL is pretty crap in comparison but can have decent places occasionally.

I know quite a bit of the demographics of both Singapore and KL and I'll break it down here.

First is my "Local Chinese girls are hard to fuck" thoery. Basically, if a girl lives in the city where she is born with her peer group and family around here, chances are she will be better behaved. Singapore is very 'small', much in the same way that HK is and to top it off housing costs mixed with chinese custom dictate that most local girls will not move out of home until they're married. It's harder to get a girl out or to stay over etc. because she is expected back home, and the local slut shaming culture is huge.

Kuala Lumpur you have girls like this as well, no doubt, but being the economic centre of a large country you have many internal migrants from Penang, Melacca, Borneo etc. who come to the city after finishing uni to get their degree. They don't know people in KL, they won't feel so shamed to be with a foreigner and they won't have parents expecting them home.

Secondly, Singapore is a world city with many foreign professionals and super rich locals. You have far, (FAR FAR) less people like this in KL and you will already stand out if you're decent looking. However, in KL the local Chinese blokes feel like every Chinese girl belongs to them and you may get into fights at nightclubs etc.
Expect leers if you walk with them on the street.

But as a foreign professional you will be considered a far greater catch in KL. Most guys are on less than $10,000 a year. Even a top level professional may struggle to crack $30k. This is opposed to Singapore where guys can easily make $100K off the bat and many multiples off that.

KL girls may not be as pretty as Singapore girls, but that's for debate and I'd say a wash in many instances. The locals indians are generally not good looking as they are Tamils. Malay girls are not hot. Girls from the provinces can be hot, especially borneo etc. as they have more in common with Indonesian girls.

KL is a sprawling metropolis. In fact, it's close to an Australian city in terms of how it has developed with quite a bit of sprawl. It's traffic is ok but reputably getting worse, and their public transport is poorly run ala Melbourne. Well equipped but poorly managed. Live close to work. UberX is super cheap.

So yeah in summary.

KL is much cheaper, food is better IMO
Girls will be easier to get with
Far less competition, locals can be douches
It's a big ass cities so handle your logistics

And to top it off, get to KLIA LCCT and fly around Asia super cheap. You will be able to do return trips to anywhere in SE Asia for $100 or less if you get deals, so you could do weekends in Bangkok, HK etc. cheap as fuck.

In short, choose KL.

Could you explain douchbagness a little more? I'm thinking of moving there.
For those who say local girls are not attractive, aren't there many travelers and foreign workers there at any time?

Beauty is in the erection of the beholder. (duedue)
Grab your life by the pussy.
A better question to ask is "What EXACTLY do I want out of life and what EXACTLY am I doing to get EXACTLY that? If you can answer that question truthfully you will be the most Alpha motherfucker you will ever need to be. (PapayaTapper)

I was considering statistics or operations research. Would dovetail with current experience. Not trying to look for a job in Singapore, just looking to take a two year break in asia.

Depends on what you are looking when studying. Lots of opportunities to improve your career and it seems on most rankings, NUS is pretty high up. Its also well recognized around the world.
But in terms of uni life, it is pretty flat. You got to make an effort to create your own social circles. Its pretty much a commuter school.

That's disappointing to hear but it matches the discussion in the thread. Starting to think that better ranked schools on average maybe less fun, especially in Asia.

Oh well can't have your cake and eat it. You can go to a shit hole school in PI or Thailand and have a lot of fun gaming but won't have much to show for it career wise.

frankly i never heard NUS standing out particularly for those disciplines. are you sure NUS would be a good choice for those?

Asian unis are really specialized, and you either need to look at rankings per discipline or you will see averaged ranks across all faculties.

In order words, it's wrong to assume that just because 1 particular uni is ranked "best in asia" then your discipline will follow the same rank.
i would research more. have you looked into HK as well ?

No interest in studying in Singapore if you don't want to stay there afterwards.

Thanks for the feedback. I've ruled it out. Last time I was in Singapore was in 2007 and don't remember much other than going to a few bars. But it seems like it's a bit of a boring place.

If anything going to a large state school in the US should give plenty of targets and a good balance of academics/social life.

Any thoughts on Honk Kong? It seems like the HK University MBA program is decently ranked for what it is.

HK and Shanghai are both fine uni-wise, but again, research your niche.
