I'm trying to find something really comfortable but also breathable. I bought some $250 loafers but my feet sweat so much its like a slip and slide inside.

I want something with a thicker sole (height) and that is made of a thin, airy fabric. I have some other crocs loafers that look like this, but mine are a green color, mostly for the beach:

   

I've been thinking of getting these slip ons below. Any ideas? I know suede bucks or wingtips would look better, but they don't add height and they are too hot for my sweaty feet.

   


I would wear these with shorts or light pants. Any other ideas if you don't like these?

Take a look at Steve Maddens-they make many styles of slip ons in light suede and cloth. I have a bunch I use as summer casual shoes. I especially like the perforated mesh ones They're light, comfortable and good value for the price. Can be found through discounters too.

Cole Haan and probably others make woven leather shoes in styles from sneakers to formal. Very breathable and still stylish. I have a pair like above which I use like slippers. I wouldn't be seen out and about in them, even if they didn't have "Crocs" emblazoned on the side. There's always some tradeoff between style and comfort though. Get some foot powder for sweat.

I purchased them on sale during the Amazon prime day deals. The grey ones above. I will try and post a picture of me in some slacks with them when they arrive.

I'm OK with the idea they say crocs on them. I'm looking for something I can wear when I ride my bike to the post office or cruise down to meet a friend to get some coffee. I just want comfortable, looks OK and very breathable / no so hot.

I have seen some good leather slip ons that are all woven leather. I think I could get some at Nordstorms cheapo place, Off the rack or on the rack, I forget the name.

Just bought myself a beautiful pair of Allen Edmonds Boca Ratons at the recent Shoe Bank tent sale for only $200. Love these things so much, they're my summer daily drivers because the longwing broguing pairs so well with the more casual and open woven upper.

I pair them with a blue linen jacket, a tan cotton/linen blend shirt, and white jeans.

Just ordered a pair of Skora Cores and Lems Primal 2s. There are more minimalist shoes being made, but you have to get them online since apparently they don't sell well locally.

Dont know if the Sanuk brand has made it too far out of CA but for my money they make the best and most comfortable casual shoes. (The soles are made out the same material as yoga mats) Nothing Ive found comes close in terms of comfort They a great variety too (sandals, shoes, sidewalk surfers, & asphalt collection)

Personally, depending on what size you wear, get used AE's on ebay or etsy for $50-100. They are a significantly better shoe for probably a better price. AE shoe bank has factory seconds for a good price also.

The skoras were not comfortable due to a very round heel which caused pain along the heel if I stood for more than 10 minutes. They fit really nice except the toe box was a tad too narrow.

Lems are great but the insert is a bit too high. I may try something called a correct toe which you can wear in them. It spaces your toes out like braces and over time they realign properly to more natural position. Normals shoes actually deform the toes inward.

Vibram is coming out with teh furoshiki which is a wrap style shoe with a five finger style thin sole.

A bit wild but look like they might be very comfortable. Might get a pair for the gym if they have a wide toe box.

I'd say a starting shoe wardrobe would be:

1. One pair black dress shoes (oxfords) for job interviews, weddings, funerals, etc
2. One pair brown dressy shoes (oxfords or balmorals; wingtips, medallion toes, etc) for work or dressing up
3. One pair of rugged work boots, brown or black
4. One pair of sneakers/kicks, such as Chuck Taylors
5. One pair of dress boots, brown or black

8. One pair of sandals or plimsols

How do people feel about the colored chucks? For example the bright red lowtops while wearing nothing else red, as part of a casual outfit to walk around the city with?

It would be a good way to slightly peacock if you wore it with some light colors like all white. That way your shoes just pop.

I personally am not a fan of chucks and they do not fit my style but they can work if it matches with someone style.

I picked up these recently. Saw them at Saks and liked the look a lot so I bought them there for $400, wore them around my room for a few days then returned them and ordered the same ones from 6pm.com for less than $200. Really good quality shoe for sub $200. Should last years and go through several soles. HOWEVER, now that I'm actually wearing them out, they're giving me wicked heel blisters. I'm hoping they'll break-in eventually and be comfortable, but for now I'm in pain if I walk farther than a few blocks in them.

I've hoped that same hope many times and it's almost always a disappointed hope, especially if it's so bad you're getting serious blisters.

Could be the last just isn't the right shape for your foot, or the size is wrong, or the liner or upper leather. are mediocre quality.

In my experience fine quality, well fitting shoes are comfortable right out of the box and you should not get friction issues from walking a reasonable distance. Really, since double monks are more casual dress shoes, you should be able to wear them without socks in the summer and some stylea look good with jeans or chinos.

Heel blisters are probably from the shoe being too large. Although you can always add heel grips where it rubs.

Replied to robreke personally but I felt that this was a good PSA for this thread. Cole Haan are no longer good since they've been purchased by Nike. The quality has decreased substantially. Allen Edmonds are the gold standard of men's shoes by which all others must be measured, perhaps short of going to a remote Italian village to see a old cobbler who will bespoke measure and make your shoes out of the purest grain calfhide.

That said, they are ridiculously expensive, at about $385 full retail MSRP.

I have found two great ways to get great deals on AE in my time studying it; the first is of course the outlet called the Shoe Bank.

This has a rough guide to what is available, but not always perfectly accurate. It is not an ecommerce solution; you can't buy online what you see. You have to call and ask for them to ship to you. This, however, allows it to fly below the radar and have a good wide selection for the few that know about it.

The second option is for even cheaper deals. Find the ebay seller dabondo1, he runs an AE store and often gets trade ins or people who wear the shoes once and return it, but makes them unsellable at full price. He offers them from about $149 to $179, but here's the kicker: he allows best offer, and will more often than not take half of that price. With $12 standard shipping, this means you can get barely used or slightly damaged AEs for about $100. Which is insane.

My entire AE collection of 10 pairs has been built exclusively from these two methods. I have not bought a single pair at full retail, and have thus probably spent only 30% total MSRP.

Related: I'm really liking the new styles they just dropped based on the 1934 last. Cornwallis and Yorktown especially. Normandy is a good challenger to the classic Timberland boot.

PS: Straight bar lacing is the best.

I don't know about Cole Haan brogues, but I bought Cole Haan oxford shoes recently on Amazon.

They look pretty good, but they took like a month to break in. I got heel blisters before I got used to them. The first couple of weeks were brutal. I wanted to throw them away.

I know they're very well made (American made) and have strong customer service, but this was my experience with AE: I spent about an hour in an AE store, trying on various shoes. Clerk was very helpful and told me all about their refurbishing policy that essentially could make the shoe last forever. They had a couple decent looking shoes but they're all built for thicker feet. The clerk was trying to stuff a tongue pad and heel pads in all the shoes I was trying on to make them work and that's when I knew it was a no go. I've never had this problem before. Also their styling is very traditional and I'd say very English or American. Kind of clunky, thicker soles. A very non-European style.
