my understanding of TBNY is that Adam Derrick and co design the shoes and source the production to a number of offshore factories, making the quality hit-or-miss depending on the model.

At the full retail price, I think you're much better off buying something like Allen Edmonds (quality shoes but definitely not as fashion-forward) or one of the Euro shoemakers (an English maker like Loake or Crockett & Jones, Meermin from Spain, etc).

If you can get them at something like Nordstrom Rack for a significant discount, they're good fashion-forward shoes but I think I'd want to see them in person first. I do own a pair of TBNY shoes and like them from a style perspective, but the leather definitely isn't top-quality and if I'd paid full retail I'd be upset.

Another new, fairly high-end manufacturer is Cobbler Union. I assume these shoes are rarely on sale. I might buy a pair of brown monkstraps or black dress boots from them next year to see how I like them.

Those are some dope shoes, but way out of my budget. Lately I've been rocking shoes from Massimo Dutti, they're always good quality and the prices arent bad. Generally about $150. http://www.massimodutti.com/

Anybody rocking Espadrilles lately? I like them but I havent took the plunge yet. I think they'd be good if you're traveling but still want to keep your style.

These are a little more refined than sandals or flip flops, but look just as comfortable. So, I think these would be good to make you stand out better when everyone else is showing their toes. I'll probably try out a pair of these once my Sanuks wear out.

I found a few I like online. I'll most likely pull the trigger when it gets warmer where I live. Right now it's still too cold.

Let me know any details you have on these guys. I am interested. Sounds like good quality and the price is right on the money.

The redder shade of oxblood is sometimes called "chili" and I agree that it doesn't look as good with navy. Goes good with light to medium brown and blue though, or white. I had a pair of chili Bally derbies for years.

I have a pair of espadrilles I bought last year that I wear often- they're a great casual warm weather shoe. I've been looking to pick up another pair off Yoox. The downside is they usually only last a couple of years since they tend to get dirty. But since they can be had for well less than $100, it's worth having 2-3 pairs.

Anybody wear Cole Haan? I first bought a pair of Cap Toes from them in DC for $198 only to go home and find the same shoes on Amazon for $100.

That's a big mark up. Cole's usually have a price range from $100 to $150 max at box stores like DSW, so it is not surprising to see that price on Amazon.

Dude... I bought a pair of barely used AE Park Aves for $100 on ebay a few weeks ago... that's a ridiculous price...

This is the first time in recorded history that Fugazi was used to remove panties.

I second this. The quality looks very good for the price. Could easily see those being around $500 instead of the $300 range.

I'm looking for a clean minimalist sneaker. Can anyone speak on their experience with Common Projects?

I have liked their shoes on occasion, but their prices are just ridiculous for for a glued together shoe. Especially how I go through white shoes, I would never dream of paying over $100 for a pair, let alone $450. Its a goddamn sneaker.

Thanks, hadn't heard about Greats. They look pretty similar.

I was going to say no until I saw that they are Florsheim Imperials. Florsheim has three lines-Florsheim, Florsheim Imperial, and Royal Imperial. I'm not impressed at all with the mainline Florsheims. I have owned a few pairs of Florsheim Imperials and thought they were nice shoes, on par with Allen Edmonds. The Royal Imperials, of which I've owned one pair and seen a few others, seemed to be a notch above that. So I would say they are worth $190. That's a nice color too.

It's interesting that Florsheim used to be considered a great American shoe company for many years, but the quality of their main production went down, I guess in the 80's.The vintage shoes from the mid 70's and earlier are coveted by guys who are into the really trad American dressing style
