Recently I was suffering severely from something, my doctor said anxiety but i was lightheaded constantly and was impatient about everything, the travel to work, work itself, gym, going back home, going out with girls. I was wanting things to be done before they had happened.
This is relaxed me a hell of a lot, my patience has returned, I'm getting through everything in the day in my own time. I don't want to be reliant on it though if thats possible, so I'm going for a week off next week.

I've been taking it for a month & 1/2. Bought mine in pill form on bb.com NOW brands. I have the same effects as Bojangles, really relaxed helping me with both anxiety and social anxiety.
More effective on an empty stomach, although if I'm eating something with a drink on the side that has caffeine I take one to lessen the negative side effects of caffeine.

It seems to me L-Theanine is pointless unless you take 400+mg of it; in which case you'd use it under special circumstances like an event with tons of girls, daygaming at a mall, or perhaps an interview. No reason not to buy it - but it'd be something to have on the side for those rare occasions rather than a regular thing.

I've never taken theanine in supplement form, but I do drink silver needle white tea every day which has the highest concentration of theanine in any tea product (gyokuro being a close second). The effects last for about an hour after drinking it.

So i've been taking L-Theanine for a few weeks now.
200 mg does very little for me.
Last weekend i took 600 mg plus drank a bottle of mountain dew code red. IT has a high caffine content compared to other pop (I don't drink coffee at all).
I felt "switched on" for 4~ hours. I was aware of everything but not paranoid or anything negative.
I chilled with my main girl that night and i was on fire with my one-liners and comebacks.
I've NEVER felt like that before ever.
There wasn't any noticeable crash to speak off.
I might go out night gaming and experiment with it.
I keep a pretty clean diet so getting that extra boost is actually extremely beneficial to me.

I'm hitting up a house party this weekend I'll try taking 600mg and some high caffeine pop and report back the results.
Everyday i make my breakfast blender drink of 6 hard boiled eggs blended up with milk.
Then usually a few pieces of fruit till lunch. Then i have tuna fish salad with hard boiled eggs added. I switch up adding in cherry tomatoes, broccoli, spinach, kale and avocado.
In the afternoon it's usually strawberries about 150-250 grams and 2 bananas.
I have 2 dinners. It consists of chicken, beef or fish with raw veggies it can vary with the addition of avocados and some rice. I make pork ribs, spaghetti and chili. My baby sister is a chef so i can hit her up for ideas on what to eat but tweak the recipe to make it healthier. Most of the stuff i eat i make and season from scratch.
I try to put back at least 4 liters of water a day.
On days i work out i add in a 500ml container of Greek full fat yogurt with a container of blue berries (2 pints) for my post-work meal. I dont take any protein powders or shakes.
The only liquids i consume are the morning blender drink with milk in it and water throughout the day. I don't coffee or juice. My occasional cheat drink (once every 2 weeks) is 1 bottle of mountain dew code red. (It's my fav and they just brought it back in canada.)
I dont eat out because most of the places in my city are crap and overly expensive if i want quality.

So, I've been using Theanine for almost a month now. Just some added information since my write up (found at my site) that I've noticed since taking in the long term.
Lower Dosages (100 - 200 mgs)
Effects?
- Calmness
- Focus
- Alertness
At the entry level 200 mg that is recommended, I did feel effects fairly significantly the first time I used theanine. Just to note, I ALWAYS took it with caffeine. Anyways, the notable high only felt like it lasted a half hour, while the rest of my day I stayed pretty level and feeling less anxious about most things. However, I still get just as aggravated about most things like I normally do, and while all these feelings are great, it does not motivate me like higher dosages do.
Mid Dosages (400 - 600 mgs)
Effects?
- Motivation
- More Calm
- Intense Focus
- Alertness (same as above)
This is where I love Theanine and normally take it. I love taking about 600 mg's of theanine and going to work with a cup of coffee. I find this is where Theanine is worth it's purchase because at this stage I feel motivated as fuck, even after work's done, I feel like I can tackle anything and any sort of work place error on behalf of myself or my co-workers that normally drives me nuts, does not when I've taken this level of theanine.
In addition, creativity goes up, and outside of work I can spend hours working on music without feeling the need to quite right after I've lost my interest, and I credit this to the fact that I feel far more motivated at these levels.
High Dosages (800 - 1200 mgs)
Effects
- Tiredness
- Relaxation
- Social Irritability
- Calmness (same as above)
I've only ever reached the 800 - 1200 level twice out of curiosity and it's not that I didn't like it, but it felt far from the sweet-spot that mid level amounts of Theanine gave me. I felt incredibly tired at this level of theanine intake even though I drank a lot of coffee, and I found while I WAS relaxed, I just wanted to be in my bubble and once anyone tried to speak to me while I was on this large dose I got pissed.
Things To Know About Theanine
- Takes about a half hour for it to usually kick in.
- I took capsules of Theanine, I've heard that the powder is more faster acting, but my capsules work just fine. I bought Naka brand Theanine.
- Works BEST with caffeine. I've also found it boosted the motivational aspect that Theanine gives me when I've taken niacin as well.
- The high isn't always pronounced but understood afterwards. What I mean is, I've found many times I ask myself "Is Theanine working?" but realize later that I was far more calm, relaxed and damn motivated after the fact when I took Theanine. So, unlike some other drugs I've heard of like Phenibut, Theanine works in a far more subtle and natural way, but you notice the effects by how you realize that you're doing things more efficiently, or through feelings of motivation.
- If you're using it for pick up, it's not going to do much unless you're already motivated to go out and speak to women.

I apologise in advance for any innacuracies here, but yeah, here's a small sheet on the effects, inter-drug reactivity, and that kind of good stuff.
Sounds like Theanine would be good to partner with hallucinogens and amphetamines
Pharmacology and function
The primary effect of Theanine seems to be an increase of GABA levels in the brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter that plays an important part in regulating neuronal excitability in the nervous system of mammals. It follows, then, that this particular substance will produce an overall calming affect (which, by all reports, it seems to). Additionally, there is also an increase in dopamine levels (potentially addictive, and also a possible cause of nausea at high doses. Self regulation of dopamine levels in the long term is also linked to depression, I believe).
The powder is probably far better than capsules, as it the extra surface area allows for faster absorption. (Ps, anyone tried railing it? I strongly suspect that the required dose will be too high, but maybe with a potentiator of some sort?)
Partnering this with an MAO inhibitor should, I believe, potentiate the effects greatly with smaller doses. This could foreseeably produce some interesting effects, especially if combined with other drugs. I have a feeling from what I've read here that it would be reminiscent of a very relaxed feeling through the body, possible nausea and a small chance it will act as a slight deliriant if taken with the MAOI at high levels.
What should/n't you take this with?

Don't take this with:
I can't recommend that you combine this with any MAOIs if you're already on anti-depressants or have parkinsons.
Any of the substances you don't feel comfortable putting into your body. I wouldn't recommend most of these unless you're already pretty experienced with taking a lot of drugs.
This will potentiate the effects of alcohol, so don't take it with alcohol if you're a light weight
Obviously, not everyone is like me, and won't particularly want to combine this with a random assortment of other drugs.
If you're up for it, however (and aren't on any anti-depressant medication), I'd recommend drinking nothing but grape fruit juice for about 6 hours, then consuming around 10-100 mg of Theanine (start at the lower end, and wait at least an hour between doses - I don't know what exactly will happen). If you're into opiates, combining the 2 (consuming Theanine about 30-45 minutes beforehand) will probably produce an absolutely incredible high (and probably be incredibly addictive at the same time).
I'm curious as to how an MAOI might cause Theanine to react. Might have to get hold of some and try it.
As a non recreational drug, it sounds very useful at a low-mid range dose. There doesn't seem to be any apparent long term mental or physical side effects, and the positives definitely outweigh the negatives if you're dosing yourself correctly. Hopefully this post is informative and accurate!

I took it yesterday for the first time. I started with 200 mg and one hour later and I was just calm, i took the second pill , doing a total of 400 mg.
I was in a venue with a lot of people drinking in the street, Bairro Alto (Lisbon).With the second pill I was really chilled, anxiety was gone and I was really focused on my surrounding and able to easily talk to other people, I really felt more happy and social.
I also drank 1 coffee before and some large beers after and got even a better mood from it .
I want to try it again later without any other stimulant.

If you crack the capsule and put the powder under your tongue to dissolve it hits you faster and harder. I've tried it like that a few times to relax before bed and it's worked pretty well.

I just some theanine in today.
Ill test it out and see if I notice any difference with it.
I also have a scale and pill capper so im gonna try to do i scientifically.
200mg and then scale up from there and see what the effects on my are.
lots of pages on the internet are also talking about mixing caffeine and theanine.
The theanine would calm your anxiety but the the caffeine would keep you pepped up. Supposedly the mix would be way better than the one by itself.
The best I can do in this case is cut a 200mg caffeine pill in half and mix it with the 200mg of Theanine and scale from there.
Ill try to report back at the end of the weekend and see if i notice any difference in my game or overall attitude.
*For the record..I dont have an anxiety problem or anything to begin with.
But im interested in any gains.

as Routebackwards said, you really have to take a mid range dose to get the benefit.
I don't take it with caffeine. For me a mid range is 300-600mg. Three 100mg pills seems to make me much more calm.
I don't see this as a wonder drug for approaching. It will make you less anxious, maybe a bit sleepy, but it's not going to take approach anxiety away as some have written.

I used a bottle of L-Theanine this spring. I usually took 200-400mg at a time but I never felt anything. Maybe I was feeling less jittery when I took it after drinking coffee but the minimal effect was not worth the expense. Replacing all daily coffees (I used to drink about 6 cups a day) except for the morning one with green tea works better for me.
