Jakarta/Indo - Best Time to Go?

I ran several searches on here and I apologize if it has been covered before, but what's the best month to go?

Obviously, avoiding Ramadan, but I'm not big into wet season or humid weather (I may live in Texas, but I'm all about the dry heat) and prefer skirts cruising around during the day, as opposed to just night venues.

I met a smokin' girl from Indo during my last Asian jaunt and want to hammer out a solid month in Jakarta/Indo proper and do it right.

Looking @ May 2014, but if I can cruise in March, that would be excellent.

Mostly, I'm looking to avoid rain/shitty weather. Growing up in AZ, I prefer the dry heat and a quick Google search says dry season starts in May.

Anyone here have boots-on-the-ground intel from May/early June? Are college graduations going on then? If so, what's it like? Family event? US-style shit show?

The forum hype on this spot is relatively high these days and I'd love to get some refined data for people looking to cruise in 2014.

I've been to Indo in January, it was fun, but nasty weather.

I'm thinking about going back in July (they say it's high season). My main goal is to score european blondes and to dive as much as possible. Im not really into the locals, since I did not find them attractive. I wonder if there are tourists/parties in the Gili islands, Lombok and Nusa Tenggara. Bali should be a certain shot.

I will be watching this thread.

I plan to travel to SEA between February and June 2014, and possibly Jakarta would be part of my travel plans. At this time, I am pretty sure that I am starting in the Phils, and considering Bankok as part of the travels and possibly Jakarta. Part of my dilemma will be how things start out in the Phils and/or the ease and economics of adding one, two or three side trips... during the about 4.5 month period that I will be traveling in that area.

I'm looking to get there at the beginning of the dry season, before it's too hot. Mostly, I want to avoid sweating my ass off after cruising around for an hour, especially if I'm walking somewhere and trying to game during the day.

If the heat is a big concern for you then go to Bandung.

Jakarta average High/Low temps = 90/77
Bandung average High/Low temps = 84/63

Bandung has 2.4 million people and is a big university city. Plenty of girls with out the sweat.

I grew up in AZ and live in TX...

I can deal better than most.

That said, I'd prefer to hit the regions dry season.

I believe the best months weather wise are considered to be June, July and August.
I was there this May (from the 8th).
In Jakarta the weather was mostly humid, hot and cloudy with some heavy showers now and then.
Took the train to Yogyakarta where the weather was slighty better, but still most days spent cloudy, light showers with the sun popping up now and then.
The train ride was beautiful. From Yogyakarta I flew to Bali and enjoyed some good weather and some shit weather.

How was the air conditioning?

Was it readily available and/or needed?

Hey RDP:

Thanks for your response. I may have been a little too vague in my earlier question.

I meant to ask you about the need for air conditioning in just getting around and with whatever activities that a guy is doing - like in transportation, trains, taxis, restaurants, malls and/or other locations.

If people walk around and get all sweaty or if they tend to take forms of transportation that have AC?

Did you find the heat / humidity to be a problem in your activities? Maybe if you are there for only a real short period, you may not have considered the heat / humidity to interfere with your activities?

I'm going to be there right smack in the rainy season. At least that will damp down the JKT air pollution! Bringing a good rain-shell and waterproof duffel.

Jakarta in mid May was hot and humid as fuck and it might be alittle "problem" walking around as you will get sweaty.
(I usually rocked flip-flops, short and a nicer shirt but still...)
I spent my days walking around and enjoying the city, sampling the food, people watching and doing the usual tourist stuff. And I guess that is really all that you wanna do, as the humidity will be an issue.
All the big shopping malls and nicer cafes and restaurants have AC.
And this is where most young people hang around as it is too hot and humid outside.
Head for the big park later in the days; alot of people gather here.
Getting back to the hotel and showering never felt soo good.

Local buses do not have AC, some had shitty old fans.
Your best bet is the BLUE BIRD Taxis, they all have ac's. affordable.
I dont know about the metro, I didnt bother as they looked really crowded.
Taking the tuk-tuk is a sure way to suck in all the nasty pollution the city has to offer.
One the side note; the traffick in Jakarta is really bad, some of the worst I have ever experienced. Takes time.

When I got to Yogjakarta it got better, and the humidity wasnt that bad. On Bali this wasnt a problem.

I hope this was helpful! Anything else...just ask.
