Her 15 minutes of fame will be over like that other broad that did that horrible fake Jason Bourne movie.

You're referring to Gina Carano. And the movie was "Haywire." She's also going to be in the upcoming "Fast and Furious" movie. She didn't do too bad in Muy Thai and MMA, largely because there simply weren't a lot of top level female fighters around. She ran into one in Cris Cyborg that was on another level. She's done okay for herself, and will have a nice action film career. The Cyborg beating convinced her to preserve her looks. Rousey is an even MORE accomplished fighter than Carano was. The backstory is what it is, but I have to respect what she's overcome. Part of being a fighter is promoting fights, and her backstory is stuff of Hollywood. I'm sure she'd prefer not to talk about it all the time, and would rather just fight. Maybe she'll follow the path of Carano, but you have to get while the getting is good. If her story helps further her career, so be it.

She had a hard home life in some ways but ended up winning a bronze in the olympics. Trained in gyms with guys and never asked for special treatment. Her mom was up her ass and never let her be weak, "because I'm a girl."

I don't watch MMA, so I don't really have a dog in this fight. And I believe you that she's never asked for special treatment, and I've got no doubt that she could beat the living shit out of me.

But what about the chick who comes after her? And the one who comes after that one? Once you start letting women into these things, they're going to want to start to changing the rules to make it more female-centric.

Do you think there's a chance that in 5 years MMA is going to be much more feminized, and not nearly as enjoyable for guys as it is now?

I don't see how having women's fights weakens the sport for men. They aren't fighting each other. He won't be putting just ANY woman in there and promoting her. He'll only do that for women that have proven to be highly skilled, exciting, and....LOOK GOOD. Gina Carano's skills were decent, and she had an exciting fighting style (and not much competition, but people like seeing other people get their asses beaten, so it worked). She also had a good backstory, in that her father, Glenn, is a former NFL player. The woman that finally beat her, Cris Cyborg, didn't get much hype, even though she was more highly skilled, because she looked like a dude. Rousey has the right formula to milk. If another woman with the right mix doesn't come along, women's fights will slide into the background again.

Gina's got a nice ass on her. I had no idea.

You want to know the only thing you can assume about a broken down old man? It's that he's a survivor.

PS I'm sick of Danica Patrick as well. And that Haywire broad does have a nice kaboose.

Rousey/Carmouche was probably the most exciting fight of the night also, even though it was the shortest.

I think you mean it was the most exciting fight AFTER the Johnson-Schaub fight. [Image: boring.gif]

The Bermudez-Grice fight was the most exciting imo.

That was a mismatch. Carmouche should be fighting at 125. The UFC is feeding up easy fights to their new champ.

The funny part is she almost lost and ended up trying to take a chunk of of Carmouche's arm.

Yeah it fucking makes me sick that these women get ahead based on their talent I mean for fucks sake what they should do is not get good at anything and instead get mainstream attention for doing nothing even better there should be quotas to stop women from getting ahead by their talent because that just holds men back what there should be is a quota that says so many of the top womens fighters should actually be men because thats fair and historically women fighters have never been allowed to be men so we should let men into that workplace because it'll be better because men can bring their interpersonal skills to womens mma.

I think it's less them feeding Rousey easy fights, but more the fact that there just isn't a depth of top-level fighters. Carmouche had Rousey in trouble - the first fighter to really put her in a bad position in a fight. This will be the overall problem with women's MMA - being able to get good matchups when you have a fighter that emerges that is simply much better than the existing competition.

I just find women doing this sort of thing disturbing Seeing them bloodying each other and bruising each other is stomach turning. Makes them unfeminine and doesn't seem to be as good or ''work'' in the same way fights between men do. Just my 0.02.

As annoying as Rousey can be (if not a tad juvenile at times, but hey... chicks man...).
I'd say she'll actually benefit from this defeat.
A measure of humility is probably just what Rousey needed.
Whether she actually learns & grows from her loss or bitches & moans, is yet to be determined.

She is a woman, the odds are very slim. She will blame it on something else. And sadly, she may even use the recent attacks as an excuse. It would not surprise me.

I agree, but in our social climate it's not stomach turning but 'empowering.' Rousey is pretty much a feminist wet dream - she's the epitome of Strong Independent Woman™, tough talking, physically unfeminine, kicking ass in a traditionally male dominated arena.

But, true to form, it seems like her feats of destruction were against terrible opponents, cans basically. Yet that was enough to elevate her to previously unseen levels of hype, much of it on the back of her gender. She apparently judged by experts to be capable of beating male professionals and Mayweather, was given Swayze's role in Road House all on the back of this idea that she was a once in a lifetime fighter and was just as good as man, if not better. The reality is that the second she fought someone with good technique she was ruined.

Let's hope they decide not to make the movie.

Exactly what I thought. Have never watched a full female fight and this clip above is the first smashing I've seen for women -- makes me sick and wonder where we've come to as a society.
