Bangkok is a culture shock. 1st 3 days, it took a while to get used to.

When you step out, you get this layer of grime on you because of the mass of people, congestion and pollution. The sidewalk are uneven, the humidity untolerable, the air harsh and the smell of random street food mixed w/raw people BO.

That combined w/the constant harrasment by prostitutes, massage ladies, and general tourist scams is a real-turn off.

The general population is pretty poor, but there is a thin rich upper-class strata. The younger girls(rich, middle and poor) are pretty cute, but you do have to navigate a whole host of problems like semi-prostitutes, prostitues, cultural anti-PDA and shyness towards foreigners, and lack of language.

Overall, I liked it after my first 2-3 days. It definetly helped when I picked up a little bit of Thai.

Have heard that Thai beaches are beautiful. Saw Chiang Mai and did elephant riding, bamboo rafting, etc etc. Bangkok was a cool nightlife city...really enjoyed playing pool w/the hookers, customers and hustlers at Soi Cowboy. They match you up randomly, and you pay 50c a game to play. If you win, you stay on.

WIA- For most of men, our time being masters of our own fate, kings in our own castles is short. Even those of us in the game will eventually succumb to ease of servitude rather than deal with the malaise of solitude

I think some people just have a tough time adjusting to the South Asian (or maybe Asian) mindset and day-to-day way of life. There is no doubt that sleeping with Thai girls in the 5-7 range is easier than comparable girls in many other parts of the world. They do have their shortcomings, including language and intellectual ability. They cannot compare to a sophisticated European woman in certain aspects.

It is also easy to get down on a country and its people if poverty, constant scamming, cleanliness, is going to be a problem for you. Compared to Bangalore, Bangkok is super clean. Compared to Zurich, not so much.

On the other hand, maybe when people get to a place like Thailand and have easy success with cute girls, they put on some rose colored glasses and overlook all the deficiencies of the country. I was in Thailand for reasons other than girls once, and I enjoyed Bangkok. It has a great energy, but it has many flaws as well.

Also, if you're staying at top-tier hotels or using AirBnB for the most ideal apartment locations it's a different experience than doing the hostel thing, or your regular Joe Shmoe 3 star free breakfast extravaganza.

Exactly Right...What the guys said above ^^^
Go for the adventure and cultural experience. JUst don't go if you care about how you laid. The locals will have had more foreign cock than you've had vaginas and the rest you will have to pay for. Some of those prostitutes have tantalisingly tight bodies though. It starts to mess with your mind.

Most people raving about Thailand were talking about Chiang Mai, not Bangkok or the tourist traps.

Just arrived in Koh Samui and very dissapointed

I was in Koh Samui about this time two years ago, here was my take on it, I was there with my ex-GF (big mistake), so I wasn't doing any gaming, but I did see a lot of hot women there. Most of the Thai chicks seemed to be p4p, there were a lot of hot Aussie chicks, with a sprinkling of Israelis, Scandis, and western Europeans. There were some very hot Russian chicks, but they all seemed to be with boyfriends, a few of which were monstrous guys who looked like they could have been mafia.

So I did see a lot of hotties, but that said it was pretty sausagey over all, a lot of dudes in most venues, and like PartyTime said there were a shit ton of tall, buff, handsome Aussie guys running around 24/7 in tank tops. I have heard that Samui as well as Phuket draws a lot of Aussie body builder types, which seemed to be the case. I can't speak to whether these guys have game, but when you're in a venue full of tall, buff, handsome dudes, it always makes the game a bit tougher.

Koh Phangan was different than Samui, but similar in some ways. Here is my take on it, the entire party scene is located in Haad Rin. Haad Rin is an absolutely ugly dump, with a crappy, trashed beach, but there are a lot of hot girls who go there to party (esp. for FMP). In Haad Rin the hottest girls are by far the Swedes and the Israelis, but there are also tons of Aussies (all of Thailand is invaded by them), some okay Brits, and a mix of everything else. While there are a bunch of Israeli girls and they are hot, they seemed to roll in big groups, and are really social circle oriented, and can be somewhat closed off to outsiders, although they may open up if you are Jewish or can pass for being Jewish.

Koh Phangan like Samui is also a bit of a sausage fest, I was there for the FMP and I would say it was especially bad then, some where in the range of 2 guys for every girl. To get laid on Haad Rin, a guy needs some combination of really good looks and very "outgoing extroverted party game", with possibly a high volume of approaches. Ofcourse you may do fine just based off solid game alone, or get lucky and spit at the right girl who likes your style and is DTF.

Personally, I am more of a "low-key chiller type" so I didn't really like the Haad Rin scene although I probably would have had I bedded a hot Swedish girl. If you want to chill at a nice beach (you are in Thailand, why wouldn't you), then Haad Rin is NOT the spot. I highly recommend staying a day or two at Haad Yao, or at least catching a taxi and spending the day there. Haad Yao is a very long stretch of beautiful clean beach, with palm trees, clear blue water and a reef full of fish to swim to easily maybe a couple hundred feet from shore. Haad Yao is not a big party spot, there are a couple bars where people hang out at night time, but not especially great for gaming or SNL, but it is possible. Your best bet may be to try to holler at women at your hotel or run day game at the beach. Also in Haad Yao like Haad Rin there are spots where you can buy magic mushroom shakes if that interests you, although I never did.

Finally, I didn't make it to Koh Tao, but I regret not going, my plans changed, my GF at the time came out to spend her college winter break with me, and so I went back to Samui to meet her there and ended up spending more time than planned on Samui and Phangan. From the sounds of it, Koh Tao is the most beautiful, pristine, and chilled out of the islands, although it doesn't have as many girls and as much nightlife as the other islands. That said, everyone who goes there is still on vacation, so I'm sure the local bars fill up at night time, and since it isn't as much of a party spot, it will probably be less of a sausage fest, with less competition, and therefore may be easier to open, game, and bed women there.

Here is my take on it...

I have lived in BKK off and on for several years and traveled to almost all the islands several times.

People are are going to have a strong reaction to Thailand when they first arrive either positive or negative. Some people can enjoy it for what it is and others will hate it for all of its faults and their are many.

I would never ever go to any of the islands expecting to hook up with normal thai girls. Tourist spot = P4P. If my goal was to hook up with foreign girls it would be Koh Phi Phi or Koh Tao. Koh Samui is a place you take a girl with you but honestly I don't really care for the place. Koh Phangan is played out and a sausage fest i would avoid.

If you want normal Thai girls you can not be on the tourist trail. Best Places of course are BKK and Chaing Mai. Even in these places you can't be hanging out in the tourist spots. For people who are in Thailand for 1 or 2 weeks and are always in the touristy areas their view on the country is going to be dramatically different then those who live in BKK.

But even for those of us who live in BKK and love it I can assure you one of the favorite past times of expats is to bitch about the country.

Some will love it. Some will hate it. Many will love it and hate it at the same time.

SE asia is very cheap for aussies all round, thats why so many there. Also here game is way more laid back and less aggressive than in Canada and the States, which is a good thing as it makes the women go after what they want, you will get pissed bogans trying to fuck anything that walks past them, but you dont get the hordes of guys chasing/dancing around a small group of girls, also dont get the cockblocking.

i'm on koh lanta now. very chilled out and beautiful. i could have told you koh samui is a hole, as is phuket. go to koh phangan and take a bike to the north of the island. it's really stunning. just don't die like the 365 people killed in road accidents over the new year holidays in LOS.

also aussies in thailand are generally really bad. i don't know why. i live in inner-city melbourne and have never come across this breed of inerudite australians en-masse before but they seem in the majority here, quite disappointing. i had previously thought aussies were fairly refined - enjoyed coffee culture, appreciated good books, love their music., but i might need a rethink.

@Direct-Danger- What about making fun of sexpats, ignorant tourists, ladyboys, and ridiculous thai salesmen who keep trying to sell you random shit? Lol, those conversations can go on for daysssss.

@G-manifesto- Shoring is a necessity if you are here for a short vacation (and very little online dating), if you have an appetite like mine. Normal girls dont go out everyday of the week. Big nights are Weds, Friday and Saturday. I would say 25% of my lays were straight shores, another 25% were "working girls" who liked my look/youth/vibe and decided to come w/me for streetfood and then I just 7-11 milk closed them. The rest were normal girls drunk...

I think the longer you stay in a city (up to a month), the more regular girls you accumulate. By the end of my trip, my phone was constantly blowing up. I was running to 7-11 every other day to reload phone credits. A few numbers off the street everyday/night really adds up. Wish had more time, really coulda done a lot more damage.

PS- thailand challenge thread had some good stories, by various members- Asaxon, RioNomad, yours truly, among others who I cant recall at this moment

I had to laugh about this.

Australians will never admit it, but there is a huge class divide. The educated (10% of the country) and the rest (bogans).

The educated (there isn't a proper name for this group, because social classes don't exist in Australia, right?) live in inner and eastern Melbourne and similar enclaves in other major cities. In Brisbane for example, this zone is very small and when you step outside you're in another society. There are also some small upper class rural areas where there the old farming families send their kids to expensive private schools.
The bogans live in the outer suburbs and all of the smaller towns and cities, as well as the countryside.

Australian bogans have done very well in the boom economy of the last ten years and they love to travel to Bali and Thailand, where they stay in drunken packs in the tourist ghettoes and generally behave like trash.

Dr Johnson rumbles with the RawGod. And lives to regret it.

So i just arrived in Koh Samui. I'm staying in Chaweng Beach. I went out last night to the Green Mango Club and the surrounding bars and the nightlife SUCKS!

The ratio is about 3 guys to every girl. The girls are mostly australian girls, many of them fat and sloppy. I was hoping for a good supply of Russian girls, but I saw none last night. There was a small number of Thai girls, but they were all clearly working girls (sitting alone at a table smiling at every guy, trying to get a customer). I saw no normal Thai girls, and very few Thais overall.

Also, whats up with Australian guys? There were a lot of tall, buff, tanned, good looking Australian guys out last night, but they seemed to be there "just to dance". They were dancing alone or with their guy friends. Many of them had their shirts off or were wearing tank tops. I didn't see them trying to hit on girls. They were just dancing, and they were really into it. And whats up with the fashion in Australia? Lots of guys were wearing shorts that ended 6 inches or more above their knees. And hot colors were common: hot orange, hot pink. I swear it almost looked like a scene from a gay club!

Anyway, at this point I am very disappointed in Koh Samui night life. I was hoping to have a good supply of Russian and Scandinavian girls to hit on, and some non-pro Thai girls too. But there is none of that. The game situation is absolutely horrendous here.

I need suggestions from ya'll. Am I at the wrong beach? Or going to the wrong clubs? The islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao are close by, those any better? Where are all the Russian girls I've been reading about? What about normal Thai girl, where are they? What the fuck is going on, this place got some good reviews from some of the people on this forum.

I don't remember anyone promoting Koh Samui as a good place for clubbing or girls. I know I personally have advised on people here to stay out of Chaweng - it's a real shithole. Green Mango street can be alright in the high season, but it's still always going to be a seedy vibe there with lots of tourists.

Koh Samui is not a place to go if you're expecting a great nightlife. If you like mellowing out in the more chill beach bars and lounging on the beach during the day it can be cool. I lived there for 5 months, and I enjoyed myself, but I wouldn't recommend it as a living destination, and I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a great place to get pussy.

I'd say all but a small handful of women I banged in Koh Samui were prostitutes who gave it up for free. It's a tourist island, not a cosmopolitan area.

If you do want to pull some regular girls, you can work on some of the ones who work regular jobs - restaurants, mall, hair salons, etc - but if you're there for a short time, what's the point? Just going to get her hopes up for nothing. If you're going to be there for a while, the high-quality, somewhat-educated women are found working at the island's resorts.

I personally liked Lamai more than Chaweng, even though it's largely a red-light district area. The after-hours clubs can be pretty good. All the local bar workers go to these places after they get off work, and it can be off the hook, if you don't mind Thai pop music.

I even remember sitting back smoking a hookah with a prostitute on each knee, fingerbanging one and making out with the other. Only advisable in a dark place like that, even with these prostitutes. Make friends with the local musicians if you can - the fruity looking pop stars. These guys are local legends and an all-around crack up to hang with. lol

Also, if you spend some time getting to know a few locals, there are regular mainstream-style clubs on the island, though I know many will say they don't exist. All I can say is I've personally sat in trendy restaurants with bands and full of university-age people, just like you'll find in Chiang Mai. I've also gone to clubs there outside of Chaweng with traditional Thai disco music and I was the only white guy in the place.

You'll find these places everywhere you go in Thailand. You just have to hop on your motorbike and go riding around outside of the touristy areas, and keep your ears peeled for music.

You'll be intimidated going in there alone (and you should just go alone). You'll feel out of place. You'll probably not like the music (at first). But sit through the awkward times, smile, casually flirt with the waitresses, and wait it out. Eventually, a group of Thais will send someone over to your table to break the ice, unless you find a way to break it first.

You're traveling. You have to go find your adventure.

That said, enjoy Koh Samui for what it's worth. Go to the Reggae Bar and dance it up with tourists. act like an idiot at Green Mango. Go shoot pool and whorehouses and laugh with the sluts. Find the after-hour discos and shore some whores. Rent a bike and cruise the palm-covered hills. Eat the hell out of seafood and go swimming in the rain.

It's a tropical island. Keep it simple.

I like Koh Tao a lot better. It's a mellow island with little Thai-farang interaction but plenty of recreational activity and when I was there you had beach raves popping up all the time. Mostly European girls, but who's complaining.

For quality Thai girls, your easiest choice is Bangkok - women are more open-minded there. Chiang Mai is doable but you have to either not care care about shoring whores, again, or have some serious game. Stand-up women in Chiang Mai don't typically fuck foreigners.

Or pick any decent-sized city besides Chiang Mai and Bangkok and settle in for a while. Again, they've all got a nightlife even if it takes time to find it. And in a lot of them you'll still get those extra points for being a foreigner because many haven't been overrun with us crazy tourists yet.

I skipped Samui totally when I was there in 2010. I remember having a good time on Koh Tao, even though I went specifically for diving I ended up doing quite a bit of partying too. Also, I would suggest the islands on the other coast. Phi Phi Don is great..
From my experience, there isn't an abundance of non-pro girls on the islands because they're so touristy. However, it can be done. I got non-working girl on Phi Phi. The islands were ripe with young, European girls when I was there though...

Again, this is the most important point. Islands are touristy by nature, and unless it's an island with a city on it, most of the locals there are pretty poor and unsophisticated. In Thailand, touristy=prostitutes.

Quote:Quote:

Can you elaborate on the good times you had in Koh Tao? I'm staying at Sairee beach, any suggestions for things to do besides diving, where to go what to see? Thanks

All the good parties on Koh Tao will be in Sairee, though there are sometimes good ones down near Buddha View as well (forget the actual name of that area). Just go down to the beach at night. Or talk with the dive instructors and bartenders to hear when the parties are going down.

The best part about Koh Tao is the isolation, natural beauty, and outdoors activities. Try out free diving, sailing, scuba, etc. Personally, I just love lounging at the beach restaurants and watching the sunset with some good food and beer. Fire dancers and shit. It's a great place to bring a girl.

If you're into the beach party scene, some real good ones do light up there, but no real club scene.

My impression is the local Thais don't really associate with farang there, and the ones that do are almost Westernized because they spend so much time with us (working in scuba shops, etc). They've got our sense of humor and party just like us.

I did make it to a couple local bars but they were pretty country - I've been told there are a lot of shootings at these local spots so keep your head up. It probably wouldn't be your scene there anyways. Just hit the beach parties.

Then when I came with some negative reports, everyone started saying "You should have gone to Estonia or Lithuania..."

For every post saying how it's the greatest place on Earth for girls, just as many of us pop in with the occaissional caveat to remind that most guys are hanging out with prostitutes and freelancers. You can tell just by the wording of the posts often.

I personally love Thailand, but I don't fail to recognize its flaws, and it has many. The women are fabulous but most men will sell themselves short and go for the easy pickings.

Which I suppose is fine as long as you're honest with yourself about what you're getting. For many, it's still an improvement based on what they get back at home.

I'd venture the backlash began over a decade ago.

I'll still go back. Again, you just have to be realistic about it. The high-quality women are to be found there but aren't obtainable by most farang - not to mention that most lack the patience to tell the difference.

It's hard to find them when you're not only sleeping with the type willing to give it up one the first night but walking around in public with them. This promiscuous behavior is not a cultural norm there - at least not on such a blatant level that we do it.

I think most are shoring. It's not very hard to bang freelancers for free if you are somewhat young and have game. Not to mention that a lot of the girls are playing a "long-term" game. Hoping to latch down a foreigner and ride on the benefits.

Then you get a lot that are just happy to sleep in a nice room with hot water, air conditioning, a soft bed, and cable TV for a night. Many of these girls are sleeping 3+ in shithole rooms with other freelancers.

then you get the guys who kick down an inflated cab fare and say they didn't pay. [Image: smile.gif]

Also, a lot of the more positive threads are about Bangkok. That's an international city and not really comparable to most of Thailand. Even women with a bit of their own cash are more open-minded there, and the size of the place makes them less worried about their rep than they would be in a city like Chiang Mai.

Very well said. I'd also put in that some guys are guilty of extremely rose-colored glasses and walk around in a stupor, completely oblivious to what's actually going on around them or whose head is on their shoulder when they wake up in the morning.

I think it's important to take the bad with the good as you mentioned, but the bad should not be dismissed either.

It's an exciting place that invokes a strong reaction, as you say, no matter what.

Best advice I can give is enjoy Koh Tao for the paradise it is. Don't expect it to be a world class party. Dive as much as you can. Get a motorbike and drive to every corner of the island accessible by road.

Drink a shitload of whiskey buckets and scam on drunken Swedes.

You still won't find party central, but for a mixture of laid back and partying on the beach, it's pretty cool. A lot more cool foreigners there than you'll find in most place of Thailand - due to the fact most come for diving or rock climbing.

Koh Tao is a place I could live long-term, but it would be a simple life, and I'd need the occasional trip to the city preserve my sanity at this stage in my life.

Everyone is always saying how Thailand is the greatest place on earth for girls.

Then when a negative report comes in, everyone is saying it sucks.

What gives?

I remember the same thing happened with me with Latvia. Everyone was saying it was amazing and I needed to get on my first flight there.

Then when I came with some negative reports, everyone started saying "You should have gone to Estonia or Lithuania..."

I question this too.

I posted a report last year on Koh Samui, and I smashed that place. If you cant get laid in Thailand, then there is probably no hope for you. Western tourists are looking for dick on holiday, and in Thailand the women are very approachable. Maybe its the time of the year, it is new years after all, but the OP's experience is very different to mine. I fucked myself dry in The Green Mango.

Koh Samui is excellent. Great beaches, great food with wide variety, decent nightlife for a small place, its not crawling with hookers, its cheap as shit, the hotels are excellent and there are a ton of things to do outside drinking and women. Its a small resort town and its one of the better ones I have been to anywhere.

All up, its a great destination for a few weeks where a guy can chill, keep himself busy with a few things between the drinking and fucking and not be surrounded by the backpacker squalor so many here seem intent on finding.

I dunno boys, if you cant fuck women at home with any regularity, going overseas is no cure. Our women fuck easy, and in Koh Samui it felt like a UN convention at times.

Hooligan Harry and especially Beyond Borders absolutely nailed it in the last two posts.

Given we are discussing Samui, I would only add that the best parts of it are the high end bits that cater to the jet setting crowd (ie high end villa communities, hotels, and restaurants). Also, Ark Bar in Chaweng should be mentioned. It is consistently a great, great place to find Europeans/Russians/Aussies and Thais from BKK looking for a good time.

Not to knit pick too much, but for one I didn't think the beaches in Samui were that nice, at least not the easily accessible beaches at Chaweng and Lamai, they were crowded, lot's of trash, pollution, murky water, etc. Koh Phangan and Tao have much nicer beaches, as do other islands in Thailand.

If you go around new years during the "high season" that shit ain't cheap. I was paying $65 a night for a decent, but not great hotel off agoda in Chaweng. Before that I was staying in a "nice" hotel (still nothing special) in Lamai and that was running me about $100 a night. Plus taxis are fucking jacked as hell in Samui and if you want to eat anything other than Thai food expect to pay.

Also I don't know which Samui you went to, but the one I saw did have a shit ton of hookers there.

Look I dont know if anything has changed in the last year, or perhaps its just the time of the year perhaps, but I thought the place was excellent for what it was looking to provide.

Its not a city, its a small resort town off two long beaches really. That said, its upmarket in some places, and you are not going to get the cheap charlies running through the place drinking their booze from buckets everywhere either. Still, I saw a ton of backpackers about, and if that place is considered expensive, then I have no idea what sort of budget some people are traveling on.

Food was some of the best I had in Thailand, and there were some restaurants there that were high quality no matter where they were in the world. Yes they are more expensive by Thai standards, but they are still ridiculously cheap by western standards for their quality. I dont eat at McDonalds and I dont expect McDonalds prices when I travel either. There is a restaurant there called Rice, which stands out as one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to outside Italy.

The beaches were great and there was no problem with the water when I was there. I swam daily and fished too. Again, I dont know if the time of the year is a problem, but the beach in front of my hotel and that entire strip for the most part was hard to find fault with at all, not to mention very scenic. There were some good parties along the beach too at night.

As for the hookers? Its thailand, there are hookers everywhere. It was no where near as bad as it was in Phuket, Bangkok and Pattaya though. There were a few clubs and its always in the open, but I was not being attacked on every corner or having to tell ladyboys to fuck off all day long either. Lamai I believe is a bit different, but Chaweng was great. No endless catcalls and "you cum here hansum maaaan" crap.

It will see me again. I could not spend more than 10 days there, and in all honesty, I dont think its what its for either. Its a small holiday town that is upmarket by Thai standards.

Women wise though, if you are not picking up there, then I suggest you spend a little more time focusing on your ability to meet women instead. Drunk upmarket tourists, drunk backpackers, drunk students, drunk single women and local thai women. If this is what you guys consider a difficult place to meet women when compared to other resort towns, then I must be some sort of Adonis, because I fucked my lungs out there.

I even remember sitting back smoking a hookah with a prostitute on each knee, fingerbanging one and making out with the other. Only advisable in a dark place like that, even with these prostitutes.

Forgot to mention this was while a topless catwalk was parading the stage at 4 in the morning. This in a Thai club rather than a tourist bar. So again, sleazy, but fun and a good experience at the time.

Or $9 per night for basic fan-room guesthouses if you don't mind lowering standards. [Image: smile.gif] A better option for those wanting to stay awhile who aren't that picky - not trying to argue with you on those rates but let's not forget the wide range of standards here. Mine was in Lamai and had a nice pool out front - a block from the beach. They had a/c rooms that were a bit more expensive but not by a lot.

The rooms were nothing to brag about but at $9 it's a great option for people who want to stretch a budget. And I'm almost positive that if those rates are available you can find something rather decent, though certainly not luxurious, for $20 - $30 with some serious shopping around, though I do understand rates go up in high season.

Even then, getting out of Chaweng and Lamai, away from the noise and prostitutes, can land you some good deals in the less sought-after areas of the island.

Or, get an apartment and pay for a month - especially a good idea if visiting in the high season. Should be able to get something for under $300 that's pretty nice, though you'll have to dig around for month to month rentals. Mine was half that and brand new with all the amenities, but that was a few years ago and took some real exploring to find.

I agree the taxi situation is definitely jacked. I usually rented a motorbike but it can be dangerous.

If anyone has a chance check out the food festival when it hits Samui. These events are a must-do everywhere in Thailand but I remember there being some amazing seafood at that one in particular.

thailand is a magical place and great for p4p.
Why some ppl would go there to chase white chicks is beyond me.

Fear of hookers and communicable diseases?

Could be the Russian chicks are better looking as well.

I'm still on the fence about Thailand but I have to say I'm leaning to not going. The thrill of getting laid by easy foreign women has been over for me for 20 years....However I still love to get down with extremely attractive women that are not selling themselves.....and so far I have seen no proof of that from the guys that frequent Thailand.

Posted some picks of what I do in Colombia in hopes that the Thailand guys would come through with some tantalizing pics of their own of women they bedded without giving a financial incentive.

Unfortunately I haven't seen anything worthwhile yet. So I'm going to try a different approach. I'm going to post pics of Asian women that I hope you are doing and some that I hope you're not doing to try and break through this impasse. jajaja

First the type of women I hope you are doing.
