Nova,
I would avoid Craigslist for phones as you will have to wade through scammers. I would use eBay, just search for carrier or factory unlocked [insert phone of choice] and look at the buyer's rating. I have bought and sold iPhones thru eBay with no problems. Also, make sure the seller is in the US. Once you win an auction, and if the phone is mailed post-haste, you should get it within three days.

Many moons ago I went to Peru w/o an unlocked smartphone. I didn't want to buy an expensive phone there and ending up buying a $30 flip phone just to text girls. End of my trip I gave the phone to a beggar!

Also, do not buy phone or sim credits at the Lima airport. It is like 5x more expensive than the Claro store. You will need copy of your passport at the Claro store btw. You can also top off your sim at the fancy supermarkets or Ripley department store in Miraflores. Good luck!!!

The cost for sim credits is the same at the claro in the airport as it is in lima. But there is a pretty high minimum purchase at the claro in the airport.

Yea, I was referring to the other cell phone companies with the hot girls manning the airport booths, they charge high rates to merely rent a phone.

Bumping this. For a short-time visitor with a preference for online game, where is the best place to stay logistically?

--Miraflores (and if so, are some areas like Larcomar necessarily better than others?)
--San Isidro
--La Molina (I know there's a mall there)

All things being equal, I would like to avoid poor girls and would-be hookers. But my chances may be limited, as I am neither tall nor completely caucasian. In fact, I could pass for Latino, though I am not. Given these limitations, would I do better in Colombia or Mexico?

Miraflores is best for logistics. Hands down. San Isidro and La Molina are nice upscale places but largely suburban. With online game, not many women you will come across hail from La Molina. It's a wealthy district, so the girls there aren't as incentivized to be looking online. Places are more scattered apart.

Pretty much everything you need in Miraflores is within walking distance or a very short cab ride. If your preference is online game, start pipelining before you arrive. Girls here are more conservative, so if you build a rapport with them beforehand it wil help. If you're not here for a very long time, create a backstory. Don't worry about your height. Peruvian women aren't very tall themselves. I can't vouch for Colombia or Mexico.
Good luck.

Just had a look at the prices.
**** ****. That's quite annoyingly expansive, I guess it's because it's in the heart of Lima, just like Zona Rosa is in the heart of Bogota.
Any tips to find something for 650$ for 6 months?
Furthermore they don't put the price on the website, it's always 'Consultar'.
It's kinda of a boner killer here.

Got better prices here for travellers.

The best page to find places in Peru is URBANIA.PE, look at this link http://urbania.pe/alquiler-de-habitacion...hgodPUQCCQ

Rooms in Miraflores, cheaper than $650

Ok when you say room, you mean habitaciones with flatmates that you don't know anything about? Or maybe it's an apartment with only one room since here in bogota i have my apto with 2 habitaciones for the dame price.

Yes, those are all shared apartments I suppose. Unfortunately it's impossible to find short-term rentals in Miraflores for the budget you mentioned unless it's a complete shithole.

This link below, if you want the full apartment, non-shared:

http://urbania.pe/alquiler-de-departamen...ma--ciudad

for example, this one, less than 600 USD per month, but you need a six-month lease (plus a two-month deposit): http://urbania.pe/alquiler-departamento-...do-3131034

I'm complaining about miraflores being expansive but since it's the equivalent of zona rosa of bogota, it's good.

I'm not a big fan of Peru or Lima. Girls are generally flaky, unintelligent and not attractive. The airports and transportation are a nightmare there, it shows how inept their government is and disrespectful they are to tourists . See Machu Pichu, cross it off your bucket list and never come back. Lima also has very little sun, which makes the weather crappy, besides the good temp ranges and lack of rain.

In that general area, I've only been to Colombia and Panama besides Peru, and prefer them both over Peru.

If you speak good spanish, 2nd tier cities in Colombia could be worth it. Pereira, Manizales, maybe. Medellin is ok, but over saturated with gringos.

Panama has a lot of hot Colombians and Venezuelans that aren't hookers.

Those are some very good deals.

Great find! Never knew about that website.

I'm about to do a little 2 week recon trip to Peru. After a week in the Andes, I will be in Lima. What are the best clubs for pickup right now? I'll be staying in Miraflores.

Also, I've heard mixed reviews about Peruvian girls. Some guys say they are very down, quick and easy, but I've also heard they are conservative. What is the truth? How do girls in Lima compare to Bangkok for easiness? How about Manila/ Cebu?

This just reads like it was wrote by someone who did the typical Gringo jaunt spending 3 days in Lima and a week or so in Cusco/Andes.

I'd say the opposite has been true in my experience and this is one of the clear positives about Peruanas. I rarely had girls flake on me and the majority never pulled any sort of stunts on me. I basically had it my way all the time without putting in any extraordinary effort. The girls are by and large stupid, but I'd say the exact same about Colombianas.

I'm not even going to address the attractiveness issue again. [Image: smiley_beat_dead_horse2.gif]

Like it's been said a million times guys, the weather is night and day from Summer to Winter. It is perfect between Jan and May. Lots of sun, no rain and never above 30 celsius or below 20.

I personally think Machu Pichu is overrated. There are dozens of other cool natural/historical wonders to see in Peru. If you don't have a lot of time for travel, don't waste it going to Machu Pichu.

I wrote about those aspects in my data sheet. There are also numerous other threads in the Peru Thread that still have very valuable information.

I haven't been to those countries, but I know it's been said somewhere on this forum that Peru is the Philippines of South America.

I have not been to SEA yet but id say dont expect to think going to Peru or anywhere in South America is going to be even close, I lived in Lima and know it well. Its more of a relationship culture. The girls are not easy in the sense of the word, but if they like you, you will know it. Likewise if your not their type, you wont do well, they are more superficial than western women in some ways. There are plenty of girls who will put out same as anywhere but I found them ones to undesirable, ie unattractive, crazy, annoying, want you to pay for everything. Alot of the places in Miraflores are full of pros, semi pros. But some are normal just wander round its obvious which is which.

@kazz, I agree with you that Peruvian girls are more superficial than girls in Europe or the US. About the relationship culture I am not 100% sure, though. Sometimes I think that when you really look like these girls' type, you can get away with a lot of things that locals can't. It personally took me some time to adapt, however.

Half of it is probably that I don't have a solid crew here like I did last time.

Second half is the girls seem more flaky and entitled then they did a few years ago..... Honestly it may not be so much that Lima has changed as it is the world is changing and more and more women are having their egos stroked from likes on Instagram (thanks Vinny) and other forums of social media. My boo thing PapiRico said he felt the same after returning to Lima a few months ago, that it wasn't as dope as it was when we were here last time.

Blaming me for ruining a 30 million people country that I have never visited? Yea it was me!
Guess what this month I am coming to Lima and not only I am going to "stroke their egos" I am going to stroke their pussies too [Image: whip.gif]

This will however solve your solid crew problems for a while [Image: love.gif]

Felt the same last year. Was there first in 2012 and it was not comparable to the flakiness I experienced in '16.
