If you're going to wing-it, I would at least make sure you end up in Bogota, Colombia and not Borgata Casino in New Jersey.

Yeah that part might be a little confusing about winging it.

By wing it, I mean, not plan the entire trip in advance. Start off in Bogota for 30 days. I prefer to do monthly rentals as much as possible to save on costs, although I was looking to get a place in a nice and safer area, such as Zona Rosa. So if I started in Bogota, and it's going well, I might stay 2 months there. Then I could possibly check out Medellin for a month, and go to Rio 2 weeks.

If I don't do it now, I might not get the opportunity to take a trip like this in S.A. ever again. So I would like to optimize. If you only had 3 months to go to S.A., where would you go?

Thanks for the tips in advance[Image: smile.gif]

What exactly do you want from your south america experience? You can't say to "optimize" because you've already said you will stay in the "safe and secure" areas. That's only going to put you in a tiny little bubble with all the other gringos sipping coffee at Juan Valdez at Andino mall.

Also, traveling to Rio is contradictory to saving money. I'm not sure why you're going there.

So what is it that you really want?

You want to bang chicks off tinder all day, ordering dominos pizza delivery, and not leave the hotel room so you can prove something to yourself by collecting notches?

You want to be knee deep in cocaine laying on top of a strippers ass not knowing where you are ?

You want to eat spicy food and see a shitty beach?

You like dark chocolate? Big asses?

You like hot weather, cold weather, shitty weather, or does it matter?

Great question! It made me think.

Def. NO cocaine for me lol.

I want to experience the culture of the place, find some interesting stuff to do when I'm there, and have some fun (and stay safe). As for the women, I would guess in a place such as Bogota, I would be doing a lot of day game. I really like the idea of buying a couple of suits and going out a lot during the day. I think that will help with the safety issue, if I'm mostly going out in the day time and doing online. I doubt the quality is going to be very high online in a place like Bogota online for a guy like myself. Maybe I will not even bother with online at all when I first arrive.

I was checking flights and hotels for Rio. Yeas - It’s very expensive!

I’ve narrowed it down to Columbia and D.R. at this point. I want quality – For me, girls with a good attitude that are feminine. I looked at the women from a few of the S.A. countries and liked the look of the ones in D.R. and Columbia quite a bit.

“You want to bang chicks off tinder all day, ordering dominos pizza delivery, and not leave the hotel room so you can prove something to yourself by collecting notches”

If I could girls to come to my apartment who are high quality (a 6 to 8 range), that would be pretty sweet, at least for part of the trip. Even if I have to go to a less safe town (I will book at the nicest part of the area and only go out during the day most likely). Although if there are some locals that want to go out at night, I might be up for it!

I don’t care about the weather that much. For day game, I do like it to be somewhat cool, but it’s not mandatory.

Thanks!

Then it sounds like you should get a place in zona rosa in Bogota. It's a bit of a tinsel town but It'll do for what you're looking for. If you don't like Bogota, at least you can fuck off to Lima, Mexico City, and DR for a few hundred bucks or take a flight to another Colombian city for $35.

But keep in mind, you're not going to be bringing too many 8's straight to your apartment from Tinder unless you're extremely good looking or you just get lucky. You're going to have to put in the work for those and you're going to get turned down a lot. Colombia isn't the Colombia from 20 years ago. These datasheets mislead so many guys on here because you can't see the quality of these girls that these guys are banging. You should have no problem getting a few 6's that the rest of the forum members have already fucked, to come straight over, which is what you're going to find on Tinder. That's just reality. And if that's what you want, there's nothing wrong with that. Enjoy it and go crazy. I think it's a stage that everyone has to go through and grow out of.

If you really want to experience the culture, you're going to have to leave for another part of the city and if you do happen to find yourself banging an 8, keep her around and go experience the culture with her, go dancing, play pool, buy some flowers for the apartment, smoke a cigar with here. It's much more fun than chasing mediocre notches.

But don't be surprised if you come to Colombia and never leave. Leaving Colombian women for Filipina women sounds depressing as hell to me. But then again, it takes a fairly fucked up person to enjoy living in Colombia and I belong to that group. You can't enjoy a place fully if you're always tip-toeing around, and you have to have some balls to survive here. And every dog has it's day.

How are you guys down there dressing for a night out? I'm Black-American so I feel like if I don't dress well enough chick will put me into the category of the lower class, but I dont want to be so well dressed that I stick out.

Will be in Bogota next week.

That's certainly a dilemma. If you dress like a backpacker, the robbers will be more likely to leave you alone. But then the girls will think you're a poor, student backpacker whether white or black.

If you're a young guy then dress nicely. If you're middle-aged, then dress like a backpacker. The robbers most prey upon well-dressed, middle-aged male gringos because they're assumed to be successful and carrying the most money.

And watch your drink in Bogota.

Go with a pair of black Adidas, jeans and a white James Real Madrid jersey. That seemed to be what most Colombian guys were wearing. You'd fit right in.

Lots of people dress up in Bogota when they go out. The cool weather allows for more layers as well.....If you hit Zona Rosa or Parque 93 lots of guys will be in sports-coats and blazers....especially if you focus on the after work happy hour martini lounges or more upscale hotel bars and dining options.

If your hitting Chapinero or the university bars then it's more casual and if your doing centro anything goes....

Don't buy into the fear mongering on here....I am a middle aged man lived here for 5 years....I wears suits, along with casual attire.....I have hit all parts of the city at all hours.....just be smart, use tappsi for taxis after dark when possible, walk with purpose, don't stumble around hammered and don't be an asshole that brings unwanted attention....bad things can happen anytime and anyplace....

If your into big messy cities with lots of layers and tons of action then Bogota is your city.....it just takes awhile to figure out....good luck!

I really don't think it matters whether a gringo dresses "like a backpacker" or not, whether the person looks like some German walking around in hiking pants or wearing cargo shorts with flip flops, that gringo will still most likely have a some cash and a smartphone which is the real prize for most thieves. A newer smartphone is worth way more than the amount of cash most people would ever be carrying.

Not discounting your experiences.....more importantly I am glad you still have a positive view of the country.....but I also think it is important to also talk about those of us that have not had those events happen to them....

I also hangout with lots of foreigners through work and socially in Bogota. Very few have had negative experiences in the city due to crime. Again they take the precautions I noted in my previous post.

I am also not so naive to think that this does not mean that tomorrow I could get robbed or drugged....it could happen to anyone!

I do still love the place. I plan to go back ASAP.

But there were a few weeks after my robbery that I had a really shitty attitude about Colombia. But I've had so many great times there, I still wanna go back and see more of it. It's a great place in the world. If I had the money, I'd tear up my blue passport and just go live in Colombia and never come back to the USA. I love Colombia very much.

But I'd stay out of Bogota. Too many people. Too much graffiti. Too much trash. And it's the only place in the world where I got robbed.

Hi Guys,

I scanned the whole thread here but cannot find a lot of suggestions about night life places to go in Bogota. I do understand there is endless list of cool places where you can go with a girl, but seem to be only a few places where a single man (aged around 40, tall, blond, casual, fluent spanish, not a dancer) wouldn't be regarded as weird.

Some places that I liked and I want to suggest to start the discussion:

- Usaquen. Go there for dinner with a girl. Great options. Feels like a small village (and used to be one historically).
- Gaira. Cool place, went there on it's 18th birthday. Different live music, good food, rather expensive cocktails. Cool atmosphere though.
- Parque 93. Been there for lunch. Looks a bit like a an upscale Parque LLeras from Medellin to me.

I'd love to hear your suggestions for 2016. I speak spanish, so anything relatively safe and non-touristy is fine!

- What are good clubs? Is it hard to get in? E.g. in BKG most members seem to go the same 3 three clubs. Anything like this in BOG?
- A good pub style place with local girls ? Something like Burbon in Cali just in BOG?

thx!

Tell me, guys. Are there many robberies when you follow a girl back to her place? Or is it in similar countries tradition they still live with their parents, and you have to give them the snake in the privacy of your own apartment?

Most girls live with their parents....until their married or in a serious relationship it seems. Only girls I've met who live alone are more well-off, independent ones, usually in Bogota.

I can't see any situation going back to a girls place in Colombia on a first date. Just for your convenience you should schedule the date near your apartment if you want to bang. Everything is so cheap there that there should be no reason not to have your own place.

I know there's many tailors in Bogota, but do any of you have a favorite that you can recommend for a suit or two and a handful of shirts.

Time wise I'll be there for over 2 weeks, so most any place should be able to handle that.

Money wise, I'm not looking the most budget place in town but neither the most expensive. Something good quality for a reasonable price.

After browsing through this thread, I find it interesting that RVF members, outside a few (Scotian for instance), don´t go off the beaten path too often. Well, off course for the average tourist Colombia already is something different and places like Barranquila are not exactly tourists destinations, but what I mean is that RVF presence is heavely focused on the largest cities.

I think the reason for this is obvious. Most go for limited time vacations, we don´t have many of the 1 year long backpacker types around here, who have all the time in the world to check out some random places. Nevertheless, it makes me wonder about 2 and third tier city talent in Colombia.

For my part I can say that Popayan is pretty good, decent quality (but less than Cali) and the city center is nice. Pasto I would say is a big city, but definitly to be avoided unless maybe if you want to go see the blancos y negros carnival. The girls are ugly though, indigenous types overall. Ipiales is shit as well, but the cathedral is nice. Worth a day trip if you are in the area. Buenaventura/Tumbaco I haven´t been but I have lived on the other side of the border and it is well known that these are real shitholes with a lot of criminal activity going on. Girls are not bad though if you like darker skin. Still, probably not worth a visit, unless for some out of the ordinary ghetto visits. El bordo is a nice small town, but still too much FARC presence for you to be able to go hike the mountains for instance. People are extremely friendly though and talent is not bad.

Other third tier cities it would be interesting to hear off: Ibague, Sogamoso, Tutunendo, Sincelejo, San Jose de Guaviare, Cucuta, Valledupar, ... Basically if you divide Colombia in East and West with a straight line (Bogota being the center), the whole East side is pretty much undiscovered, mostly because it is jungle area, fairly dangerous, small cities/towns, but who knows it might be cool to visit.

Ibague and Cucuta are on my list of cities to go check out later this year or early next year, as I plan to spend a lot of my time in Colombia. I'm actually really into the idea of getting outside of these main cities and exploring these littler ones....once my Spanish improves a little more. Largely because I don't want to get into a situation I can't handle, since safety is still a concern of mine.

Ibague does have a short datasheet though: thread-9740.html

rottenapple, I think that a lot of the guys on here have found some sweet little 2nd and 3rd tier fishing spots but aren't rushing to share them. If I found some place, where all the girls were 10's and went nuts over gringo dick so much that they were lining up around the block just to get a taste I wouldn't post about on it on RVF for the whole world to see.

A lot of these smaller cities are a bit too undeveloped for what most westerners prefer. There was some guy on youtube that makes videos about Colombia and he said he spends the a large amount of time in Choco, but it's some shitty backwater that would make you feel like you're in some 3rd world country in Africa.

It's a pretty simple formula anyway, go anywhere in the world that's off the beaten path from outsiders and your value increases dramatically.

A year or two ago nobody was even that high on Bogota, it was all "Bogota is so dangerous" blah blah blah and everyone stuck to Medellin. Now it seems like the majority of the people on here spend the majority of their time in Bogota over other cities.

Had the worst game of my life tonight in Bogota haha. Went home with two 7.5s from we got to outside they're house and at that moment the X kicked in hard. For some reason I WOULD NOT let them leave the uber. Haha Bogota is fucking crazy I love it.

I'll definitely do better tomorrow night

Does anyone know the availability of steroids over the counter in Colombia (without prescription) and what the rules are for flying with them?

Looking at doing a 3 month trip early next year but also want to start low dose TRT/testosterone therapy this year. So my options would be to take some over with me, enough to last 3 months, or buy it over there if possible. I would be flying from the UK + 3 internal flights, BOG-CALI-MED-CART.

I don't have a prescription as it is almost impossible to get one over here as a young guy (28), but have done my research and think it's the right option for me.

Paging Linux. He'd be the guy to talk to about this.

Under my impression, you can definitely buy test and certain steroids (even HGH) over the counter in Colombia without prescriptions.

Flying with the stuff inside Colombia shouldn't be any issue, either.
