I don't get it, why would you only extract what is basically just sugar water when you could blend the fruits and veggies into a smoothie and also get ALL of the vitamins plus dome filling fiber?

"Sugar water" is a gross oversimplification. Juicing doesn't eliminate/remove all vitamins and phytonutrients. It's the quicker way to get the nutrients into your bloodstream for a fast/detox.

The info graphic sums juicing vs smoothies(this was also covered earlier in this thread):

Any of you guys add olive oil to your juices?

We need to know what juicer you have to give you recommendations. In general though, carrots will always be a good choice.

I have a 50 dollar basic-ass juicer that I got from a discount store.

Does it juice with a blade or an augur? Blades do better with fibrous vegetables. Augurs do better with leafy greens. Both will get the job done to varying degrees.

I used to until I found unprocessed, virgin coconut oil at Costco. Some oil helps to absorb the fat-soluble nutrients from your juice.

Is there any reason not to drink juice at the same time as a whey protein shake? I am currently fasting and break my fast after a workout with a whey smoothie, thinking of juicing some stuff and drinking that as well. Maybe with carrots, beets and tomatoes as the main ingredients.

I'm wanting to drink it directly after the workout because I believe that would be the ideal time to drink something with a high sugar content.

Bear Hands, why coconut oil instead of olive oil? Taste?

Check out the stuff Mike Cernovich has written about juicing for athletes. There's nothing stopping you from adding protein powders and other supplements directly to your juice.

I read this thread: thread-9399.html

I decided to try it for myself. I cannot say I have noticed any health benefits compared to just using olive oil instead, but I like the taste. Either is fine in my opinion.

I add Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar and Udo's Oil to my juices. I wouldn't recommend doing that for your first juice, and you'd better be careful not to over-add either product. But they work pretty well in juice.

Are there any downsides to juicing carrot tops? There seems to be conflicting reports online that the leafy parts of carrots are toxic and not suitable for human consumption.

Centrifugal type spinning blade juicer. So far I have tried apple, pear, carrot, red kale, beet, celery, kiwi and grapes. All of them juice fine except the kiwi and grapes. I just throw in one or two of whatever's around in the morning. It tastes good as long as there's at least one apple or pear in it.

Anything that you think I should definitely try? My cum volume has increased a lot since I started on the celery.

Pomegranate seeds if you're aiming for sexual benefits. Ginger for anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits. Pineapple so women like swallowing all the extra cum from your celery juice.

I've been juicing for about 10 days now. I make up about a pint consisting of ginger, lime, apple, beetroot, celery, cucumber, carrot, and either cavalo nero (black cabbage) or spinach. So far so good, and I do certainly feel better for it. It has a good flavour balance, so don't have any issues drinking it. I tried adding some red onion, but that made it unpalatable. Am I missing anything vitamin / mineral wise, or are there other vegetables that I should consider adding? I'll try adding a little extra virgin olive oil for fat soluble vitamins. Would a table spoon be enough?

My shits are healthier too. Ive started having solid shits, and it is actually dark green, but the water turns red from the beetroot.

Edit: I'm using a masticating juicer if that makes a difference.

That's a pretty good juice to get started with, especially if you like the taste. Onion is very powerful, but it works in very small amounts. When I want that kind of flavor, I add a single scallion to the mix. A single clove of garlic is pretty good in that kind of mixture too.

Cross-posting this from the Ukraine thread, in case any of you guys need your juice fix in Kyiv.

FreshFactory is a cafe chain with about a dozen locations.

For around 130 UAH (depending on which ingredients you want, works out to $5-6 USD) they'll make you a liter of fresh juice from any combination of about a dozen ingredients like beets, carrots, apples, grapefruit, ginger, etc.

The Juicery in Boston. Highly recommended for all you Boston heads. Located on the Freedom Trail near the Paul Revere House, and it looks like they have a few other locations in Massachusetts.

One of my activities on my most recent Boston trip was a walking tour of the Freedom Trail. I spotted this place on said tour and had to stop in. They blend fresh vegetable juices right in front of you and even have the option to put things like whey protein, cayenne pepper extract, and maca powder in your juice.

I wish we had something like this in DC (do we?).

I'm a really fussy eater and pretty much havnt ate much fruit or veg at all since I was about 8 years old now 24 years old and trying best to be as healthy as possible and own a blender but I just can't do the taste even down it but I'm pretty sure it's more psychological than taste which is the reason for my fussy eating cause until I was 8 my parents were together and my dad was the disciplinarian and I wouldn't be allowed to leave the dinner table until I ate my veg lol but when they split up I found my mother to be a push over and then the fussy eating lifestyle started cause I wouldn't take notice of her which I regret.

I dunno why I shared that spiel but does the juiced fruit and veg taste different to what it would be if it was blended or is there just less quantity so easier to drink?

Edit* I forgot to mention I plan on reading the whole thread but just short of time atm and want to order a juicer next couple of days

Yes they do taste a bit different and you can combine fruits with vegetables so the sweetness masks the taste of some veggies that you don't like. I was never a fan of beets or carrots, but beet + carrot + apple juice is very easy for me to drink. Also for example i don't like cucumber juice at all but I love fresh cucumber for salad.

I just picked up an Omega 8005 off Craigslist. I'm ready to start juicing like Jose Canseco.

I feel like a huge moron now.

I've been making smoothies for over a month and I thought I'd been juicing. [Image: lol.gif]

Didn't realise you can pack in more portions of fruit and veg with a juicer rather than a blender. I feel a bit better since I've started, but I haven't noticed this drastic change I've read others having. Will start saving up for an Omega.

Mine's gone dark green too, although I've been blending. Been taking more dumps too. Pretty sure that's cos of all the fiber though, so maybe juicing rather than blending will make sure that doesn't get too frequent for me.

For your first one, I'd recommend a Breville.

This one is fantastic for beginners. It's $99 and I've seen it on sale for $75 or so.

I've used the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth as well- surprisingly large yield for such a low cost ($40-50 depending on the color).

I believe it was Mike who recommended buying a cheaper one and seeing just how often you actually juice before shelling out $200-400 on an Omega.

These two have been discussed thoroughly in this thread prior, so excuse me if you've already researched and decided against them.

I got a question... I have been a Vitamix/smoothie guy for the last couple years but I want to try juicing, don't see why it would hurt mixing it up. Also, smoothies are sort of limiting, things like carrots, beets, etc aren't really that good in smoothie form, and I can't stomach too much Kale in smoothie form.

I have an issue with quite a few fruits and vegetables though. If I eat raw peas, carrots, Celery or apples for example, I get this allergic reaction in my throat and mouth, I walk around wheezing and gacking like Larry David after he got a pubic hair stuck in his throat, it feels like a deep itch.

I have no medical backing on this but I think it is called "Oral Allergy Syndrome" (self diagnosed)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_allergy_syndrome

The thing is that once I cook them, the allergens go away. Even a 30 second blanch, microwave or a quick steam does the trick.

Does anyone else who juices have this issue, and if so, does the process of breaking down the raw veg during the Juicing process limit the allergens? Probably a stupid question but worth asking if anyone has anecdotal evidence...

Not a stupid question, and you're right that a lot of people get this. I get it with certain types of squash, and occasionally bananas and avocados. But my symptoms sound less severe than yours and don't go to the back of my throat.

I think it's highly unlikely that juicing would limit the allergens, probably it would only make them more concentrated and your reaction worse. But I've never actually tried juicing with something I get this reaction with. Given that you described having wheezing (I'm assuming you mean actually being short of breath) I'd worry that you might get some dangerous swelling in your throat, which is unlikely but theoretically possible from what you described.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't juice though, I've been juicing for the last couple months and love it.

I have issues with some fruits and vegetables- Kiwi, mango family, apples sometimes, bananas especially, walnuts, avocado (I can have guacamole from chipotle though.)

I throw in apples, oranges, celery, beets, kale, spinach, carrots, celery, ginger, lemon and a few other things and I don't seem to have an issue.

Try out a small batch first. You probably have an issue with pollen.
