Here is another must have in everyones supplement regiment:

astaxanthin:is a reddish pigment that belongs to a group of chemicals called carotenoids. It occurs naturally in certain algae and causes the pink or red color in salmon, trout, lobster, shrimp, and other seafood.

•Over 300 times the antioxidant power of vitamin A and vitamin E
•Over 47 times the antioxidant power of lutein
•Over 34 times the antioxidant power of coenzyme Q-10

I already look young for my age (31). But this has made my whole skin overall look and feel like I am 20. Whenever a woman is massaging me they always comment about how great my skin is. I also have my parents on it and I shit you not they look 10 years younger. They also have dramatically changed their eating habits which has had an enormous impact as well.

One other thing that everyone should be aware of is if you are ingesting Omega 3 pills if it does not have astaxanthin in it the pill is rancid. I don't care what the brand is, if it does not contain astaxanthin you are throwing good money away and not to mention potentionally causing a breading ground for free radicals in your body. Best source is astaxanthin itself, or Krill oil from Norway. Everyone do yourself a favor and check your bottles of omega 3's. This is a serious problem and you might be harming yourself.

I will try the Amino Collagen coming up this week for a couple months and report my progress. But astaxanthin is also a very cheap alternative or to work in synergy with amino collagen.

Interesting. Never heard of astaxanthin before. How long have you been taking it? How long before you started noticing visible changes to your complexion?

I have been on it over a year now. I had good skin before and no wrinkles so it took at least 4 months before I noticed anything. But eventually I noticed my face seemed more relaxed and had a real natural glow. It also seemed to make my skin turn a little more olive. I am Canadian but both my parents are Croatian so maybe it helped crank up the genes a little more in respect to skin color.

My dad has turned a couple shades darker as well. His side of the family grew up in Bosnia so they have more of a turkish influence and I think the astaxanthin has played a role in bringing out more color in him. With my parents the difference was noticeable in a month. I don't see them that often so any changes I notice right away.

I think changes in complexion will come done to how far alone you have aged. If you are showing signs of aging I think the astaxanthin will have a noticeable effect immediately. If you are in overall good health it may take a few months like it did with me to take effect. But I think this is probably right up there with vitamin D as the most important cancer fighter on the planet.

I'm 30 and I can easily pass for a 14yo. I have 2 others using my regimen (one 35yo guy & a 40yo woman) and we have excellent results. I'm waiting one more month before I do a writeup for the forum.

I see. I'll give this a try for a month & see how I like it.

I'm interested in how it affects black skin & if it will allow me to maintain or increase test levels. I guess I'll be the guinea pig.

Did some research last night. Product seems pretty solid. I will order and give it a shot. There were some bad reviews on Webmd, but the people were older, and were taking around 12mg, along with krill oil. Seems like overkill. From what I gathered, 4mg is enough.

Mine is pretty easy since I found the perfect supplements for me.

I take tangy tangerine twice a day.
I take EFA plus 90 twice a day as well.
I also take the rebound fx twice a day as well

Those 3 alone I get all 90 essential vitamins and minerals the human body needs.

I also add 4mg of astaxanthin
100mg of Zinc on top of the tangy tangerine.
800iu of vitamin E
5000iu of vitamin d in the winter.

I also use ACV everyday, Blackstrap molasses and mega amounts of cocunut oil.

And I average 8-12 raw eggs a day.

Did anyone get any adverse reactions from the collagen supplements? My skin got very rashy and my heart started fluttering. Not sure if directly related to that stuff but trying to figure it out.

I take:

25mg of Zinc a day, sometimes 50mg on gym days.
2000iu Vitamin D throughout the year.
3000mg of Vitamin C.

I also take a multivit pill and Omega 3 pills.

I used to take 4000iu Vitamin D a day, but it didn't have a visible impact, so I scaled it down to 2000iu. I suspect Vitamin D is an "under the bonnet" vitamin, keeping the engine running smoothly.

Vitamin C, however, has had a visible impact, and it did so quite quickly - my skin and hair looks healthier as a result of taking it.

I've never experimented with Vitamin E. What's your thinking on Vitamin E? Has it made any discernible difference?

Possibilities:

1. Perhaps the amount you're taking is too high - even if you're only taking the recommended amount. Try reducing the amount, say by half (an amazon reviewer initially had problems with collagen, but reducing the amount she took reportedly solved the problem).

2. Did you take it on an empty stomach? Try taking it during a meal. And vice versa.

3. Are you taking any other supplements within 2 hours of taking the collagen supplement? If so, see what happens if you don't.

4. Perhaps the particular brand or source of collagen is problematic for
your system. Try another.

5. Perhaps collagen itself is problematic for your system. If so, quit it.

I gave the amino collagen a shot, I got the Meiji brand straight from Japan.

It works. I kind of have a baby face as it is, but this stuff made a noticeable difference in my complexion. I have slightly graying hair, but otherwise my face is very young looking. I don't know how it works, but it does, other forum members should give it a shot.

Has anyone tried both the Meiji and the evo collagen and have a comparison?

I tried the evo collagen and while the results haven't been drastic it's helped a bit but I'm a health freak to begin with so I don't know if my expectations were too high, there wasn't a lot for it to do or, it's something that gets better with time if it's just a lesser product than meiji. I certainly know it did help a bit but wondering if I should switch or stick to evo.

3 weeks to a month. The container from Meiji is a 30 day supply, mine lasted a little more since I didn't measure out the exact scoop each day and used less. I went to get a haircut a week back and threw on this old tie dye shirt. This lady asked me if I was 'On break from college' I told her that was almost 10 years ago. I'm sure the tie-dye shirt factored in, but still I thought it was funny.

Does anyone have a strong opinion, ideally backed up by research, re bovine vs fish sources of collagen? The only reasonab;y priced collagen supplement I can find is bovine. Is there any difference? If so, why?

Also, how is a bovine sourced collagen supplement different to straight Gelatin?

Not sure if this will answer your question but I tend to prefer to get the good stuff from food sources versus supplement. Unless it's hard to get, like cod liver oil (I don't eat much fish), or magnesium.
As such, I have a friend who makes gelatin from the marrow bones and knucklebones of grass fed cows. Lots of connective tissue and very rich in collagen.

She uses a pressure cooker to make batches of jars that she distributes to her friends, including yours truly. The top of the jar is thick with tallow (white beef fat) which she recommends to cook food with. She places it in the fridge and once you remove the fat on the top, the bottom is jello like substance. If I heat it up it turns into soup and I sometimes use it in various dishes. Gives the meal a very rich flavour.

I'm buying a pressure cooker to make my own batches soon. Have a butcher shop who sells grass fed beef and pretty sure I can get bones from him for a reasonable price.

Bovine source is perfectly fine as long as you can ensure it's from a healthy, well-raised cow. Not sure how you can check that when the stuff comes in pills and capsules, so in that case probably best stick to fish.

Eating sardines, bones and everything, is another natural, whole food way of getting collagen as well. But bang for buck, it doesn't come close to beef bones.

bovine sourced collagen is good, much better than from pigs but the majority of it is made from hides, not bones. Chicken based gelatin is good also. I try to make chicken soup once a week, cooking the bones / fat / skin down for several hours to get the minerals and other connecting tissues (gelatin), good eating!
