Do the collagen creams have the same anti-aging effects?

Example: http://theyeon.net/en/?portfolio=theyeon...-one-serum

Also, would it be best to start on this stuff at a younger age, say mid-twenties, to prevent wrinkles, or would that be premature?

With a laundry list of ingredients like this I doubt it's anything like pure collagen powder.

Main Ingredients

WATER,ALCOHOL,NIACINAMIDE,DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL,HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN,GLYCERIN,ADENOSINE,PANTHENOL,
ALLANTOIN,HYDROGENATED LECITHIN,SODIUM HYALURONATE,TAXUS CUSPIDATA LEAF EXTRACT,PEG-60 HYDROGENATED, CASTOR OIL,ACRYLATES/C10-30 ALKYL ACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER,AMMONIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE/VP COPOLYMER,
DIMETHICONE,BUTYLENE GLYCOL,HYDROLYZED DNA,Fragrance,PHENOXYETHANOL,POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE,
ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN,DISODIUM EDTA

Based on Ali's feedback I've decided to start ingesting collagen. I'm going to do the 28-day program from Meiji. It's one of the most expensive out there, but I figure if any of these products will work, then it will have to be the Japanese. I'll report back in a month.

Meiji Premium Collagen

I'm just about finished with the Meiji collagen.

I actually do see some change. What I notice the most is that my nasolabial folds are not as pronounced. The second biggest thing is that the fingers on my right hand, which are generally achy all the time, have stopped hurting.

Otherwise my face's skin appears a little bit dewier. And my skin is not as dry as it used to be. The last one could be on account of the changing season, so I'm sceptical if the collagen had anything to do with it.

All-in-all, I'm impressed since I wasn't expecting any change at all. I've had no apparent side effects but didn't anticipate any since this is basically a food stuff. I'm going to reorder and see if there are any further improvements.

Signing in after using the stuff for a little over two months.

My nasolabial folds have almost completely filled in. My skin has become somewhat more supple (dewier?). Fingers in right hand don't hurt anymore.

I don't notice any difference with hair volume or scar improvement. Some users have reported benefits in those areas.

A month ago I was out at a party with my girl, who's 10 years younger than me. When a few of the single girls there heard that I was 36 (I was by far the oldest person at the party), they instantly became curious and came over to talk. They all assumed I was 28 at the oldest. My girl got protective after the other girls approached, but I just laughed.

I will continue taking the Meiji Premium for the time being. It's probably erased at least six years from my face.

I don't think the collagen creams have the same effect as taking collagen straight up. At least based on my experience.

If you're in your twenties, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day on your face, neck and top of ears. Buy some of the Boots No. 7 serum that other guys talk about on the forum. Wear a hat outside in the summer with sunglasses as much as possible. Take it from a guy who was careless about sun protection and ended up getting skin cancer on his forehead: the sunscreen is worth it.

Otherwise you don't have to do anything else (besides keeping acne at bay). I got laid a ton more in my 30s than 20s, all by much younger girls. The age difference was a benefit, not a drawback.

Are you guys still using collagen and the related products? What works for you the best?

I am nearly 40 and over the last 2 years I noticed many more wrinkles due to some very stressfull events and a less healthy diet.

I tried a solgar product (skin, nails and hair formula), I know the name sounds like it’s for chicks but I noticed an improvement in my skin, wrinkles didn’t alterate though.

I am also taking hydrolysed collagen tabs of 1000mg, 4 per day from Holland and Barrett, I started a month ago but I don’t see any difference.

I am thinking about injections of hyaluronic acid, did any of you try?
I know this again sounds girly but I believe as men we have to take care of our skin as well, especially if it is fair, thin and when we are aging.

On the strength of this post, and other recommendations of collagen I've seen throughout the web, I'm going to try collagen for three months.

One issue that hasn't been raised: the source of collagen. Collagen can be sourced either from bovines or from fish. The former has some theoretical risks associated with it (think mad cows), so I'm going to opt for the latter. Pricer but safer.

The brand ype I'll be trying: Neocell Fish Collagen.

Will update on progress.

As long as you go with pastured bovine collagen I would say it`s a very safe choice. My favourite brand would be Great lakes collagen hydrolysate. Widely used, well sourced, and I`ve never read a bad review or heard of any incident`s of mad cow disease with collagen supplementation. It`s feed lot that causes the problems with diseases mostly. That also goes for stomach acid resistant e-coli strains etc.

Remember that vitamin C is "used up" in the synthesis pf collagen, so having a vit. C rich diet is paramount. (yellow and red bell peppers, green vegetables, citrus etc.) Much better than poorly absorbed pills.

We will stomp to the top with the wind in our teeth.

So I have been doing some research and the source of the collagen is very important, the cheapest usually comes from porc skin, it is not necessarily bad but it has to come from responsibly raised pigs, meaning with no antibiotics and eating what they would eat in their natural element. I think it is safer to get collagen from grass fed cows. Another point is that gelatin is as good as collagen, I am no expert here but apparently gelatin contains mostly collagen. I am about to try the brand « Great lakes » as I have read many good reviews and it is possible to get it delivered in France.

Thinking also about trying Astaxanthin as a member here praised its effect.

Edit: Johnnyvee, I just read your post and I see that you mention the brand great lakes as well, have you tried it?

Yes I`ve been using it for about 3 months now. I mix it in with green tea+lemon juice usually. (2-3 tablespoons a day as recommended.) And I also make sure I have a high vitamin C diet as mentioned. You definitely notice a difference in your skin elasticity when you use this, at least if you`re 35+. I don`t have any joint issues etc, but there`s a few studies on CH on pubmed showing improved restitution after injuries involving stromal tissues. (Bone, tendon, cartilage, skin) It`s also proven to be effective in improving arthritis. And collagen can also help repair leaky gut. Something many struggle with these days. So I can safely recommend it.

CH and gelatin have the same effect, (it`s just shorter peptides) but CH is much easier to use. It mixes in cold and warm liquids, and is practically taste and odourless. If you get gelatin you have to make Jello every time you use it.

PS: I tried astaxanthin for a full 3 months at 12mg, which is a high dose. (I used a brand called Algalife from Iceland, supposedly one of the best) I also did a heck ton of research on Astaxanthin prior to using it. (I`m a biologist by trade) But I must say, although the studies are there, I felt no positive difference. Might be premature, but I stopped taking it. I now do green tea (+CH) as mentioned, together with krill oil. Captain`s krill oil to be specific. https://captainskrilloil.com/
Also well studied supplements where I do notice a difference. https://nccih.nih.gov/research/results/s...031610.htm

Thanks for the feedback, I will try Krill oil as well. I just ordered some bone broth from the brand « Kettle & fire », it is pricey so I am planning to buy a crockpot and prepare my own bone broth, it is probably the best way to get good quality collagen.

Which brand did you get? I see you are from the UK so you must know Holland and Barrett. I took their Hydrolysed collagen for 2 months and didn’t see a difference, I don’t recommend it. Will now try their marine collagen, hopefully it works better.

The product « skin, hair, nails » from Solgar actually improves the skin, it doesn’t have any any anti ageing effect but it has zinc and some other minerals which have a positive effect on the skin.

Yeah I'm familiar with Holland & Barrett but I've never tried any of their products.

The reason being, I get the impression that being a high street chain, their products would just be the lowest quality/price similar to what you'd get in the supermarket vitamin section. Not really basing that off experience, just my feeling of the brand.

I ordered the Hydrolysed Collagen from Edible Health. Seemed to be the best mix of value for money and good reviews. £21 for a month's supply.

There was a few negative reviews in the last month or so saying that they had changed the formula and it now had a stronger taste and didn't mix as well. But then one reviewer said he had been in contact with them and they were switching back to the old formula.

They also had this on their listing, so decided it was worth trying for a month, despite the few recent negatives:

I almost bought another product by 'HARVEY&COCO' as they had the best reviews. But I entered the link onto fakespot.com and it came up that there were likely fake reviews and that amazon had deleted some. So I'd maybe stay clear of that one for anyone doing research

Good to know, I was about to try the brand « great lakes » as it was recommended here and has great reviews, it is more expensive though.

Regarding H&B, you are right but some of their own products are good and they sell many other brands and often have good deals, that’s why I am still a client.

Still taking the Meiji stuff a few times a week.

The best way to boost collagen in your face is tretinoin.
