We need to coin a phrase for what happened here. The Beach Boys Effect? The Bill Clinton Effect?

In both those cases, these were people who were considered either too squeaky clean (Beach Boys) or annoyingly self-righteous (Bill Clinton). But once their dirty laundry aired, it humanized them -- made them bad boys. Their popularity skyrocketed.

What would really take the wind out of #metoo's sail is if people started accusing Neil deGrasse Tyson of paying these women to make fake accusations, just so he could look like one of the guys, instead of an uptight, didactic nerd.

If he wanted to avoid that image then he should have burned one before filming the Cosmos remake. If you watch the original you can tell that Carl Sagan was pretty baked.

I'd love to see just one guy say, "Nope. She's lying and looking for money." Or, "Yeah, I fucked her. She she traded sex for career advancement."

It's to Tyson's credit that he skipped the usual "I recall it differently" bullshit, and, in so many words, said "yeah, this totally happened, it meant nothing, I can't believe any sane person would think it meant something, I did bone that crazy lady in college but that was a long time ago and she loved it, this is dumb, good luck with the investigation".

I don't follow these #metoo stories. I have a very noob question: why these multiple allegations against the same guy always pop up at the same time? Is there a organization coordinating attacks?

easier to take a guy down if there's more liars lying for money semi-united in trying to take him down. plus it's all about opportunism.

No dude, girls like to pile on. They see a guy who they dated 30 years ago get accused and if he is successful they may be jealous and go ahead and make a fake accusation because they want to be included

By colluding to lie at the same time, women achieve the following:

-Less scrutiny on their individual allegation
-A dramatic burst of allegations creates a bigger media circus
-They look more credible, because "that many women can't be lying"
-Easier to shake someone down when you outnumber him

This is why women pile on- it is easy and it works.

Watson says Tyson continued making suggestive comments that contained sexual innuendos.

He allegedly began talking about human beings needing certain ‘releases.’

Tyson also spoke of the difficulty of being away from home for months at a time.

When Tyson asked Watson if she needed releases, Watson says she told him a story about her being sexually harassed.

Watson says he was unmoved.

‘It was like talking to a wall,’ she says.

As she got up to leave, Tyson stopped her and asked her to engage in a ‘Native American handshake’ in which both of them hold hands tightly, make eye contact, and feel for each other’s pulse, she says.

Tyson told Watson that the handshake was a ‘spirit connection.’

When Watson tried to leave, Tyson said he wanted to hug her and that afterward he would ‘just want more.’

Watson says that at that point she left Tyson’s apartment quickly.

The next day, Watson says, she confronted Tyson. She says she told him that she felt betrayed since she considered him to be a mentor.

Tyson is said to have responded to her by saying that she would never succeed professionally because she was too ‘distracting.’

Watson says she complained to one supervisor about Tyson. She also called a harassment hotline.

This all snowballed from some bad game. He pushed through with some pua kino gambit without noticing any indication of interest. Made her feel uncomfortable, then finished her off by commenting she wouldn't get far because she was too distracting. She went nuclear and complained everywhere and older hags came out to pile on him.

All this because he did spit some bad game once lol. Even Wall Street gets it now:

Yeah, he does seem socially awkward but I feel we are missing some details that Neil can't say without making himself look worse. For example, did he get some previous IOIs that the girl is now denying? There is some reason why Neil thought he had a chance here and wonder if this is a case of the assistant simply getting cold feet as Neil's social awkwardness became apparent?

A truly epic troll would be if a star or someone well known/famous fed some fake accusations to the media or had some paid actors make fabricated claims, watch the media circus take off, and then be like "lol just kidding." It would totally expose the "trail by media" tardfest that comes with every accusation. Of course there could be chance of backfiring or unintended consequences, someone would literally have to have next level ZFG to attempt something like this, but it's funny to think about.

Also agreed to whoever mentioned about if he was rich or famous that some chick from the past would come out of the woodwork to make a claim. So true. Funny how no broke losers ever get Me Too'd

One obvious explanation for him not noticing her reply story about sexual harassment would be if he actually had blue-pilled nice guy chump intentions and thought she was the awkward one for bringing it up.

It's entirely possible that he was trying to treat her as a professional equal and a guest in his home, and that he made some remark about stress and hobbies which she blew out of proportion, because in her mind, it's impossible that a man was not trying to bang her.

I've said shit before that was interpreted by PC types as being about race, gender, disability, etc., when I had absolutely no intentions of the kind. I can see him dumbly thinking he's made a special connection as a mentor and being pleased with himself while she's neurotically convincing herself she's about to get raped.

Could this turn into a big reversal for the whole MeToo movement?

I remember the story about the bad date that Indian comedian went on which ended up with him clumsily trying to escalate with some girl at his place and the public response to it. There was a bit of bit of push back on the whole MeToo narrative, with people who had been more sympathetic to the other MeToo stories coming out chalking it up to a bad date. Now we have another story and it could be a bigger blow to the movement since the accused is not only not white but also a figure that's beloved by people who have been perpetuating MeToo the most. Also unlike the story with the comedian who did get some sexual contact with the girl (eating her out), in two of the three MeToo stories, NDT didn't actually have any sort of sexual contact with the women and had a plausible story to explain the behavior which gives him enough cover to placate people who aren't aware of game even though us here know he was trying to get sucked into her black hole.

The pound metoo movement works well on white males.

When you start getting into black and/or colored territory you'll see pushback.

Reason being: The sacred cow of being a minority (at least it dampens the effect of the alleged)

Nothing like a white woman accusing a black man of rape, sure brings back the dog whistles of insta lynchings without trials.

Excellent point. #metoo is a return to the white women-fueled hysteria of the Emmett Till days, just as "human trafficking" paranoia is reminiscent of the (similarly imaginary) white slavery scares of the 1930s.

I'm surprised no one in the lamestream media has made that connection. Then again I'm not really surprised.

You mean like if we could start the rumor that back in the 1990s, Laura from "Family Matters" accused Stefan Urquelle of harassment? For those of you who don't know, Stefan Urquelle was the cool version of Steve Urkel after he drank the potion.

I bring this up because reading about Neil deGrasse Tyson made me think of this. Guess this is the liquid version of Neil's sexual handshake.

You know, in my experience, women only make sexual harassment allegations when they want to fuck the guy. There's a chance this lady wanted to get dirty and was disappointed he (being a married man and all) wasn't going there.
