Just found out ~3 months ago. Doc said I have been infected for 2-5 years but my last test was around 4 years ago so most likely 2-3 years. Never really had any symptoms. Never experienced what they call a seroconversion (acute flu-like symptoms a few weeks after infection). Went to get a hormone test and thought I should check just to make sure. Well I'm sure now, sure that I have da hiv.

Not sure where I picked it up, most likely in Vietnam or Philippines (where I live now).

The virus had progressed so far that clinically I actually have AIDS. (A CD4% under 13% is deemed an AIDS defining condition. Mine tested at 10.5%.)

Started taking meds as soon as a found out. Took me around 2 months for the virus to become undetectable in my blood. This means its impossible for me transmit to anyone else.

I am hopeful there will be a cure in the next 10-15 years. The research looks quite promising.

Just thought I should post this as a warning for anyone raw-dogging in these parts of the world.

I probably banged around 100-150 girls during this time, the majority with a condom (probably 70-80% of the time), but sometimes it broke, we ran out or I just didn't bother because I thought it wouldn't happen to me.

I thought only gays were at risk but I guess not….

Other than a brief episode of flu upon contracting HIV, it takes anywhere from 3 to 20 years (8 on average) for AIDS symptoms to show up. That's why the disease is so stealthy - you're infectious for many years without ever knowing you have it, and by that time it's too late.

I had symptoms like minor skin infections, sore throat etc. but nothing serious that wouldn't go away in a few days.

Kind of ironic how HIV/AIDS, which was the main STD everyone worried about from roughly 1980-2000, is now manageable with one pill per day, yet syphillis, gonnorrhea and herpes all seem to be mutating and outsmarting modern medicine. Those statistics might technically be correct but they are largely irrelevant.

The primary thing that really matter when it comes to transmission is the viral load which wasnt controlled in the study that produced those %s.

When someone first contracts the virus their viral load will shoot up to ~2million copies per ml of blood. During this stage (before the body produces antibodies) they are highly contagious and any form of penetrative sex carries a high risk of transmission( 20%+).

After the body identifies the virus then it will start to produce antibodies and the transmission rate falls rapidly. Then for 3-10 years the transmission rate will be quite low (assuming not on HAART) and will increase gradually each year until progression to AIDS.

So those numbers are very misleading. If you are involved in a promiscuous scene like the nightlife scene and you have unprotected sex with someone who just seroconverted then the risk of transmission is very very high.

Those statistics are actually dangeorus and were partly the reason why I was so blase about protection.

Probabilities of contracting most STDs are actually fairly low. However, probability hacking is not an intelligent way to evade a disease. Also, these are one time encounter figures. As number of encounters goes up, so does the risk.

At the height of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, the CDC found that the average infected homosexual man had several hundred, possibly even a thousand, partners.

Great comment. Had to bold that portion because a lot of guys (willfully) forget that. Chances of transmission are very low during any individual encounters, but the probabilities are additive as the number of encounters/partners mounts.

Im sorry. But this is bollocks. Youve smashed 30ish non pro girls without a condom and have supposedly got HIV. Scaremongering to the highest degree. I hope you have the mental strength to thoroughly go through that list of past partners since your last negative test, or better all partners since a few months before your last negative test and inform them of the urgent need to get tested. You could potentially be saving many lives preventing further transmissions.

and any one with such a active sex life definitely needs to be tested more often. Personally I do blood tests twice a year and pee tests 4x a year.
