In the past Musk said he only felt the need to stay on as CEO of Tesla long enough for them to get their stride. It was only more recently that Musk dug-in and said he wanted to stay CEO indefinitely. In contrast, he's never said anything about one day giving away control of SpaceX. SpaceX is his true love. Tesla is more of a long-term detour/quagmire he got himself into when he pushed away Martin Eberhard. That's why in his most recent interview he sort of rhetorically asked for people to give him names who could do a better job of Tesla CEO. I think Musk is doing it because he feels (rightly or wrongly) that he's the only one who can, not because he feels it's his calling or passion to do so. There's a lot about his job responsibilities he simply doesn't like doing, and people tend to do shit work when they are only doing it out of obligation or spite (ala to burn the shorts).

Elon Musk needs to step away from the day to day operations of Tesla and get someone to be COO like he did with SpaceX. Board of Directors needs to be far more active in reining him in (and I suspect they've started now that non-family members and ppl with actual executive experience are onboard). I suspect anyone who is qualified to run Tesla would not want to cause they know they'd have to deal with Elon.

He's also an attention-whore who reads too much of his own press. A true celebrity-grade CEO. Comapre that to Jobs who was notorious about keeping his private life private, including keeping a lid on his terminal illness for as long as possible.

I remember seeing an interview with Musk not that long ago where he did a TV interview in his own home. Guess who was a fixture in his home at that time? His ex-wife (the bitter one that had so much negative to spew about Musk's various flaws and kinks). His ex-wife may not technically live there but you'd never know it by how much time she spends there. Allowing that is cuck-like behavior. Doesn't sound like she's around quite as often anymore but she was at the time (which was immediately before or even during the Amber Heard era).

So the dynamic at the house has to be circus-like and you can understand why he might prefer sleeping on the factory floor.
