It's a shame Taleb Kweli has become a completely idiotic SJW. He's not a stupid man, at all, so to see some of his twitter arguments is just soul destroying. I know arguing in 130 characters of whatever it is makes most people look stupid, but man... that Reflection Eternal album was excellent. Him and Hi-Tek were great. Common is someone else I really liked actually, just while we're on the subject of that kind of stuff. And even though Dead Prez 'hated' white people, I loved that Let's Get Free debut album.

Sadly, lots of my favorite rappers have turned into race-baiting SJWs which is why I tend to ignore their mainstream personas and social media BS.

I forgot about Common, should have been on my list.

I can understand that reasoning, even if I actually disagree. I think one person has already done so in the thread. Now one or two people has said Biggie.

Chris Rivers, Big Pun's son, can rhyme too!

Chris is legit, but he really needs to stop bullshitting around, get signed to someone, and start cranking out joints.

He seems to be afraid of the record industry. Those fears are warranted, but if he is gonna go solo he better get on Youtube or something and start dropping bombs.

He's too lyrical. Their's no way you're going to get mainstream attention if that lyrical. The industry only puts out shit you can vibe to ,club bangers and murder music

Lets be honest here. Elephant in the room shit.

Even back in the early 2000s. Kweli was not intelligent at all.

He could not even do 5%'er logic correctly.

He could not even do Black Nationalist logic correctly.

He was one of those very few people that I would have singled out as being Afrocentric but not a BN. Even then, he would screw that up in his rhymes with weak pop shots.

Now that he is whole hog SJW mentally retarded, people are surprised. He tried to rhyme about subjects and would always jumble them up.

I just looked at his wiki just now for the first time

Quote:Quote:

Early life
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Kweli grew up in a household in Park Slope. His mother, Brenda Greene, is an English professor at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York and his father an administrator at Adelphi University. His younger brother, Jamal Greene, is a professor of constitutional law at Columbia Law School, a graduate of Yale Law School, and former clerk to Justice John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court. As a youth, he was drawn to Afrocentric rappers, such as De La Soul and other members of the Native Tongues Posse whom he had met in high school. Kweli was a student at Cheshire Academy, a boarding school in Connecticut. He was previously a student at Brooklyn Technical High School before being academically dismissed. He later studied experimental theater at New York University.[2]

He flunked out of high school.

See if you ever studied his rhymes closely enough you would know that he sounded uneducated. He certainly came off that way to me. Now from the age of wikipedia, I now know that his momma and his brother are scholars and he must have been moonlighting off their knowledge, but he himself likely does not even have a GED. Tried experimental theatre at NYU. Doesn't seem like he even got that degree in basket weaving.

Look don't call me a hater but Kweli is not a thug rapper. He is supposed to be a an intellectual and Afrocentric rapper. He is supposed to be well read or studied on things. He cannot even study to be liberal. How the fuck is going to rap about being liberal? How can he have intelligent discussions on social media as a liberal?

Maybe he has ADD with dyslexia or some other learning disability that we do not know about. Who knows. What we do know is that if it was not for the Mighty Mos Def and Kanye West, we would not know who this nigga even is. Be honest with yourselves and ask your own self if you would know who he is without either Mos or Kanye.

I know exactly what you mean, but that's just his style. To say he's bad lyrically is just not true. Lyricism has a number of components, many of which Common checks the boxes for. I Used to Love H.E.R is a good example of a lyrical song infused with his unique 'talking' style.

He has a pretty good grasp of rhyme schemes as shown on his first verse in Resurrection for example:

I stagger in the gatherin' possessed by a patter-in
That be scatterin'
Over the global, my vocals be travelin', unravelin' my abdomen
It's slime that's babblin' grammatics that are masculine
I grab the men, verbally badgering broads
I wish that Madelyne was back on Video LP
I went against all odds and got a even steven
Proceed to read and not believin' everything I'm readin'
But my brain was bleedin', needin' feedin', and exercise
I didn't seek the best of buys, it's a lie to textualize
I analyze where I rest my eyes
And chastise the best of guys with punchlines
I'm Nestle when it's crunch-time

Agreed on this, seems like he tries a little to hard to pump out the lyricism, and it comes off as forced imo. Perfect example is his freestyle on Sway. It left me thinking, 'Is this dude serious?'. He comes off as corny and try-hard

Common was a poet that became a rapper.

He was influenced by Gil-Scott Heron. I think he even talked about that somewhere before. He took his style 100%. Jazz poetry and spoken word prose over a simple beat.

Technically speaking the first American rappers can be either be Blowfly or Gil Scott Heron depending upon who you ask. 1971 seems to be the issue because you can point to evidence in both guys of this stuff around that year.

EDIT: Before someone dings me, I think Sammy Davis Jr. once rapped about something before. I heard it but it wasn't over a beat per se (breakbeat, etc.). I don't think that is the same thing at all, but that's just my opinion.

I should've analyzed his raps better i honestly taught when i listened to that particular song that he didn't rhyme. It was pretty good. But still not the greatest vocabulary

Nah, you got tons of dickriding on Kendrick Lamar. Young fans would dig him if he actually put in some work in the studio.

Worst case scenario. If he became the next MF DOOM, would that really be all that bad? MF Doom has his own cult following. He only looks like a bum and wears that mask because he likely has assburgers, but nobody told him to wear it. He likely would get more fans too if he was more consistent at actually WORKING in the studio too.

People sometimes forget why certain rappers are pop culture wise, in the top 20-30 artists when someone googles "Top artists of some genre"

It's because they work ALOT. Like their work ethic is high as fuck. Jay Z, Migos, Ludacris, TI, Dr. Dre, Eminem, T Pain, Outkast, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Lil Wayne, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Jon, Future, Too Short, Missy Elliot, Lil Boosie, 50 Cent, Camron, Chamillionaire, P Diddy

I could go on and on and on.

What did all of these dudes have in common?

In their primes, they all work/worked like a dog. They were/are constantly recording and perfecting their crafts.

Chris Rivers is 23. He has plenty of time, but he is wasting it like a motherfucker. People knew about him 2 years ago. At my age I cringe when I think about him. I cringe because I worked my ass off at his age. When I got to my mid 30s I was like war ravaged, with PTSD, and having lethargy in waves. Some of the people in that list above are my age or a little older and they are either doing different stuff or have slowed down tremendously. Camron is basically retired and spends time periscoping and doing regular people shit.

Youth is a very terrible thing to waste. Even for men but double so for women.

Hahah, holy shit. I'm a huge Kool Keith stan. He is too weird & sex-rap focused for the average rap fan (I am not average lol) though but the guy has had one of the most illustrious independent careers out of anyone in hip hop.
