Just when you thought it was all over for the dude Gucci bounced back out of prison & has been having a nice rebound career. Got himself into better shape, popped the question to a girl he liked & just seems a lot calmer now.

Now a days if you're more prone to lyricism in rap ,you also have to go over the pond to find some. Mc's in uk are far more lyrical then almost all of us rappers, In the majority of overseas rap communities lyricism is still a important thing, In Sweden a lot of popular rappers take their lyrics very seriously and try to perfect their craft, especially the street, thuggish rappers who are in my opinion the best of both worlds, They tend to spit great bars with trap beats. Dudes like Z.e, Yasin byn have great songs filled with even greater vocabulary, punchlines and so forth, Yasin byn even did a English song

But for those who aren't from sweden uk rappers like Nines and Fredo are nice lyrically not really great but better then the vast majority of rappers now a days. And they also for the most rap over trap beats. My favorite line from fredo is from Rappin and Trappin, songs down below

Man I just beat the case
So can somebody tell Latesha-Grace
That Fredo's tryna give her D for days

True story. I think the European crowds appreciate the essence of hip hop & the lyricism that defined the old school / golden era of the genre. It's no wonder the true MC's from America often make their true bread overseas.

Yeah, But a new sort of lyricism is making it's move in the us. While Don q and other new york rappers stay true to 90s and 2000 lyrical vibe, In some places where lyricism never was that popping(the south and midwest) rappers are trying to be more lyrical but not in that multi amazing bars way,

they're bars fit in with their songs more in the same way rappers did in the dj screw mix tapes and they say the same shit and rephrase it a lot similar to cam'ron but these rappers are more pronounced with it, The rhyming is more similar to the early 80s rap , treacherous three, kool moe dee and kurtis blow

Rappers like jay critch, ski mask the slump god and to lesser degree Denzel curry( He's far more lyrical then them) do this a lot.

How are you gonna start a top 5 rap groups thread, and name yourself after a classic Jedi Mind Tricks album....but not mention them at all? [Image: wtf.jpg]

3. Chamillionaire
4. Atmosphere
5. ASAP Rocky (will probably move up)

Groups:
1. Outkast
2. Wu tang
3. Bone Thugs
4. UGK
5. The Roots

Always loved Lil Wayne’s The Carters and Da Droughts. Three 6 Mafia is high up on my group list.

My younger brother is a huge Tech N9ne fan. He might be the most successful independent rapper of all time? Never relied on major record labels, but instead pure independent hustle, no?

All politics aside those cats are all legends in the music game. Completely re-shaped the sound of the West Coast & hip hop in general.

The Firm album unfortunately didn't get the credit I thought it deserved. Could've been due to bad timing, I'm not sure. Nas, AZ, Foxy Brown, Nature (who replaced Cormega) right....they had some bangers I thought. Dr. Dre seemed to be in serious trouble after their album flopped sales-wise on his label. Luckily for him, he was able to release a certain white rapper's LP less than 2 years later which completely turned the ship around. Eminem's Slim Shady LP heheh.

Cormega got screwed on that. He was near top 5 territory at the time, and that killed his career. He still had a few good albums in the 2000s, but never recovered from that Nas beef.

You guys are both right.

One of the biggest album influences post NWA was The Chronic and Chronic 2001.

Literally a supergroup collab of so many famous rappers.

To be honest while snoop and other west coast rappers such as Ice cube, eazy, bg knocc out and so forth are og's and have made their mark on rap. Their rap skills are not that great their skillet aren't that far from today rappers.

Ras kass , Dilated peoples, Fashawn are the few ones who's skillset are on par with east coast mc's

No one's mentioned Lupe? Dude's probably the best out there in terms of skill and lyrics. Just not mainstream really at all these days.

Anyone on here heard of Binary Star? This album is top notch.

Forgot about Ras Kass. He was one of those West Coast guys that could probably outbattle many of the East Coast lyricists. A pure rhyme spitter.

If he was from the east coast he would be 10 times more popular, But his own city don't even fuck with him. The west coast really don't see lyricism in the same light as the east coast
