Monero (XMR) thread

Monero (XMR) thread

Monero has outperformed BTC every year since 2016. The only year BTC did better was in 2015. Monero was released on 2014.
I think it will be the Amazon of Cryptos unless a better one comes out in terms of privacy and gets mass adoption on darknet.

All BTC transactions can be traced back to its origin, as everyone familiar with Monero knows that its not possible with XMR.
People cant see how much is in your wallet
People cant see how much money went out.

Unless the NSA finds some way to crack this, Monero is the best coin out there in terms of privacy.

Study: 44% of Bitcoin transactions are for illegal activities

https://thenextweb.com/cryptocurrency/20...ctivities/

Quote:Quote:

The odds are about one in four that the crypto fanatic in your office is involved in illegal activities. After conducting a study of historical Bitcoin transaction data an Australian research group concluded:

We find approximately one-quarter of Bitcoin users and one-half of Bitcoin transactions are associated with illegal activity. Around $72 billion of illegal activity per year involves Bitcoin, which is close to the scale of the US and European markets for illegal drugs.

And that $72 billion? Here’s a bone for you conspiracy theory types: Business Insider reports Bitcoin has lost $72 billion in value since the beginning of 2018. Coincidence? Probably.

The research was conducted by Sean Foley of the University of Sydney, Jonathan R. Karlsen of the University of Technology Sydney, and Tālis J. Putniņš of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.

It bears mentioning Foley and Putnins are both PhD holders, while Karlsen is a PhD candidate – these are hardcore data scientists who are experts in the fields of economics and finance.

The team used what’s called detection controlled estimation and network clustering, both forms of data analysis involving algorithms, to come up with their findings.

And what they found is enough to put the F in FUD:

While cryptocurrencies have many potential benefits including faster and more efficient settlement, regulatory concerns center around their use in illegal trade (drugs, hacks and thefts, illegal pornography, even murder-for-hire), potential to fund terrorism, launder money, and avoid capital controls.

While this all reads as sensational, the team does point out that this research does not indicate that cryptocurrency is fueling black market growth, but may simply be a different payment method for the same old crimes:

A crucial piece of this puzzle is understanding the extent to which the online illegal trade simply reflects migration of activity that would have otherwise occurred on the street, versus the alternative that by making illegal goods more accessible, convenient to buy, and less risky due to anonymity, the move online could lead to growth in the aggregate black market. Our estimates of the amount of illegal trade facilitated with Bitcoin through time contribute to understanding this issue, but further research is required to relate these estimates to trends in the offline black market.

It’s important to remember that this is by no means definitive, and while it may appear that a significant portion of cryptocurrency transactions are involved in illegal activity, previous research conflicts with (some of) these results.

That said I wish I didn't sell my Monero, but there is no way to predict these price swings. I still expect a BTC rally before I move back to XMR.

^^^ Well we're pushing $330 and I am back to profiting.

If it hits 600 I'll drop some monero on gifts from the dark web. Maybe a fake watch or some unprocessed Bolivian coca paste. Just wait and see.

Wouldn't the xmr to btc price be much more relevant?

I'm guessing a great majority of people who are trading xmr are doing so with btc or eth, not usd(t).

Yeah that graph is meaningless, you need to check the XMR to BTC graph. I just checked the daily and weekly charts and they look pretty neutral, while the four hour chart is going down, I don't understand where that weird bitchy post is coming from at all.

The 3-month low of XMR is around .018. I sold at .025 and that's the bottom?

As I predicted, BTC is having a massive rally as it prices in the LN. BTC dominance is pushing 40%, up almost 10% in a week, and Monero has fallen from .03 to .027 and dropping. I wish I could have timed Monero's RSI better and I could have seen this last minute rally, but short-term trading isn't my forte. It will be something I work on in the future.

That said, Monero has gone from rank 13 to rank 12 on http://www.coinmarketcap.com. This is just one of many ranks it will continue to climb. None of the shitcoins above it have anything going for them except hype or age (like Litecoin). Monero is easily still the best long and I can't wait to get back into XMR. I just had to switch to BTC for this LN rally. Only Bitcoin can compete with Monero in the long run due to its massive headstart on the network effect.

BTC will be king for at least 10 years more, but after that Monero has a major chance of becoming king in a world of increasingly authoritarian governments.

I've been thinking why XMR has such a low cap despite being the only crypto actually used for real life goods and services...then it hit me today that BTC and ETH have seen explosive growth in market cap valuation simply because they are paired with every altcoin on every exchange. This explained me the quick rise in price, why it went up so high despite having no use in the real world. XRP is probably an outlier because it's been artificially pumped by the developers.

What's up with this monero fork?

They say you get ten monero vs for every monero. Does this mean my existing monero is gone?

Is this the move thats gonna get me my Ferrari and Samseau a pair of fake shoes or some shark fins?

Please reply in kind.

As far as I'm concerned the major use case of crypto currency (which is the only huge thing blockchain technology has been used for, correct me if wrong) is hiding transactions from the authorities (drugs, money laundering etc.)

As we now know, Bitcoin and most other crypto currency is actually mostly useless for this.

I agree with Samseau that Monero will eventually be king, because it has major advantages over regular currency and transactions (privacy.)

So how's this fork gonna process since this shit is anonymous?

I'm concerned. I've got lotsa questions out there with experts I'm waiting for answers to. I made my crypto bones with Bitcoin cash, so this looks good.

I joke a lot, bit I am really gonna order something on the dark Wed tommorw, but I'm gonna have someone that knows what the are doing to it and I'm gonna use a single coijn wallet to do it. Just to see what happens.

We gotta watch this fork my brothers.

Do NOT give your wallet seed to MoneroV. MoneroV is a SCAM.

Monero does a normal fork every 6 months that requires no effort from normal users. MoneroV is a competing currency trying to lure over Monero users with false promises of increased privacy, better mining rewards, and a better long-term value (i.e. no "inflation).

It's all bullshit. For example, in MoneroV's Whitepaper they claim they will implement MimbleWimble tech to increase privacy, and yet I saw on reddit a MimbleWimble dev claiming he has no idea what MoneroV is.

The Monero dev team has issued an official warning:

https://getmonero.org/2018/02/11/PoW-cha...reuse.html

Quote:Quote:

Key reuse
It is important to realize that the security of the Monero network and your own Monero is dependent on the security of your Monero keys. Your Monero keys are MONERO keys. Do NOT use them for any other purpose, including claiming coins from a Monero fork. Using your keys to spend the same outputs twice on different forked blockchains will damage your privacy, and others', as both spends will bear the same key image, but different rings, with only your spent output in common (this does not impact stealth addresses nor confidential transactions, just ring signatures). Moreover, by using such a "same keys" fork, the security of your Monero private keys now depends on those third parties.

Forkers, if you're forking Monero, DO NOT ask users to reuse their Monero keys, but have them create new keys for your fork.

Users, if a forker asks you to use your Monero keys for their fork (after this notification is published), they're trying to manipulate you into being part of a large scale attack on Monero.

Be safe, and don't reuse your Monero keys for any other purpose than using Monero.

Do NOT give your keys to MoneroV, or you will get fucked like MoneroGold did!

You have been warned!

I have my Monero in the Monero GUI wallet that I downloaded from the getmonero website. Can I leave my Monero there or do I need to do something with this fork that is coming up?

You should be good to go. A fork isn't gonna delete your funds.

The more and more I look into Monero, the more I love it.

If you want to stash money away, this is the place to do it.

BTC is not "digital gold." Monero is the closest we have to it.
