University of Chicago says no to safe spaces.

In what might be the first indication of pushback against the PC onslaught, the University of Chicago has issued a letter to all incoming freshmen that basically says, "No pussies allowed."

It's not all good news, there's the required "diversity is our strength" clause, but it's a step in the right direction.

Quote:Quote:

“Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called ‘trigger warnings,’ we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual ‘safe spaces’ where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own,” reads the letter from Dean of Students Jay Ellison.

Hopefully more colleges will follow their example...

This is great, as long as these words are followed by matching actions.

In the meantime...

Good on them. I hope that other universities follow suit. Every little positive helps.

The more push back against this cancerous PC culture the better off college campuses will be.

It's a private university though. It would be a lot more encouraging if it was coming from a public university.

This is great thing in the current PC environment but not that surprising.

Chicago has had a long tradition of hiring people who don't push the party line. It sees itself as a necessary counterbalance to the left-wing lunacy at Yale, Harvard, and Princeton. A good example is the Economics department which had people like Milton Friedman for the longest time. He would regularly piss off leftists (see his Free to Choose stuff on youtube). Another Chicago intellectual who bucked lefty trends was Hans Morgenthau. I know there are others but can't think of their names off the top of my head.

I'm glad that Chicago has held its ground. But I am afraid it is the exception, not the rule. And in the grand scheme of things, it is a drop in the bucket.

Good news. The surrounding neighborhood (Hyde Park)is to the left of Lenin and of course that community presented the world with our Dear Leader President.

It's literally in his back yard. His house is 3 blocks from campus.

It's a sad state of affairs when a university feels compelled to write such a letter. Most universities are content with crippling their students by protecting them from opposing viewpoints and ideologies. An unchallenged mind cannot grow, and can only fester and rot. Hence why you see such a high rate of mental illness among the SJW crowd. Challenging their ideas is like removing a critter from the depths of a cave and exposing it to sunlight.
