Odessa, Ukraine 2016 Datasheet

I love Odessa, it's a beautiful place. It would be stupid to do a bang trip there though. It's the sort of place you'd go to take a few years off, get a modelesque girlfriend, and enjoy the good life.

Thank you for this datasheet. I'm on the fence, don't know if I should come to Odessa. Prices are quite high and I heard mixed opinions.
I'm in Kiev right now and it's good here, but I saw lots of hot girls at the train stations heading to Odessa...

I recommend you do, but you are right about accommodation, prices are very high now and sparse availability.

My friend recently managed to find something very cheap, but the apartment was pretty much in the ghetto

Absolutely.

It's a city with a distinctive identity and unique in the FSU, or even in the world (well, unless someone is able to point me out another city of 1 million both steeped in history and by the beach - and I mean really steeped in history, not just with a tiny historic area like Santa Teresa in Rio or Barri Gotic in Barcelona), with plenty of options to live the good life. As a side note, IMO the only FSU city that can compete with Odessa in term of charm is Tbilisi.

I would say the opposite, better to go there for a bang mission ideally with some warm leads. You don't want to be here in winter, very humid and cold, city is dead and depressing. There's no decent shopping centre in the centre of the city.

Kiev is fun 365 days a year, I would choose Lvov over Odessa in terms of liveability also

To "live the good life" means also escaping from Ukraine for some exotic destination(s) during the winter months. No one in his right mind want to spend 365 days a year in Ukraine, be it in Kiev, in Lvov or in Odessa.

Take the girls out of Odessa and you will see the steeped history... You are making it far much than what it is in reality.
It was founded only 200 years ago. Only in Iberia there is Lisbon, Valencia or Malaga for example, or Palermo, Split, Riga/Jurmaala...with much more steeped history, liveability, quality of life/tourist atractions, much, but really much better beaches (I think the worst beach in Portugal is 10x better than Odessa beaches...), and possibly much more chances of scoring tourist girls.

I saw enough of Odessa in 2013. Do not regret at all my absence since then.

Note: I do not think the historical centre of Odessa is that big, maximum it stretches from the Vokzal area to the Opera house, Deribasovskaya and Potemkin stairs. Possibly 4 sq. kilometers, no more.

Funny note: Me and forum member Andreas Pistol made the mistake of bathing in Lanzheron beach waters. We where followed on our way home for 2 or 3 kilometers by a swarm of flies biting on us, we used the public shower at the exit of the beach...but it was possibly with the same beach water... or even worst...

Yeah, you're right, I also wrote about that in another thread ..the beaches in Odessa are not only ugly, but the water is one of the dirtiest I've ever seen (well, Rio or Recife are worst) ... one some days it's really disgusting - without even talking about the jellyfishes. No wonder that people prefer beach club's swimming pools.

About the city itself, we can agree to disagree, no ? [Image: smile.gif] ....... one guy becomes enamoured of a city, and another guy hates it ....that's the spice of life, if we all liked the same places, the same type of women, ect, it would be hopeless. I even know a guy who is enamoured of the worst Russian shitholes !!! (well, you know him also)

Edit: ok, maybe I overstated with "a city unique in the world" lol.

365 days a year city means anytime of year is good. It doesn't mean you have to stay there all year [Image: rolleyes.gif]

For you maybe, September until December is a great time to be in Ukraine, better than summer imo

Define "great" please. If you mean "great to pick up girls", it's not my personal standarts - as usual, to each its own. That said, I love snowy winters in the FSU, it's often magic and enchanting.

Of course I mean girls, most of us that have been in Ukraine are predominantly there for chasing pussy couple with low prices.

The students are back in Autumn/Winter, I found them more enchanting than some trees.

September absolute best month because students are still in short skirts and there are freshers from the country starting their city life

Nice edit!, but not inaccurate, for most others too!

BTW can we see your whole "DHV Photo Album" or are we going to get them on drip feed?

Perhaps a winter snapshot of you at the hearth in your favourite easy chair, fur-lined Gucci slippers, smoking a pipe?

I would prefer a Dan Bilzarian style shot of him on a yacht surrounded by girls paid to be there and eating overpriced steak.

By "overpriced", I guess you mean more than 5 €, yes ? [Image: lol.gif]

Edit: don't know why you feel the need to spoil a thread about Odessa with personal spiteful and embittered SJW-style attacks about lifestyle. Let's leave it here, and put me on your "ignore list" please, ok ? [Image: wink.gif]

Just wanted to thank everyone here for providing some great details on Odessa. I'm in Romania now and thought about heading up to Odessa and, after reading the various comments and experiences, I've decided to hit some other place....probably will make my way from Constanta to Chisinau, which sounds like a fairly under trafficked place.

My own experience with Ukrainian girls is that they are very tough to crack and take more time than I'm willing to invest to warm up. Romanians, on the other hand, have proven to be sweet, open and incredibly easy to get along with.

Well ...... if by "under trafficked" you mean "under visited", it's not the case, Kish is on the "sex tourist map" (or "thirsty tourist map" if one prefer) since more than 10 years now. First time I've been there was in 2005, and I already found that most malls, clubs, ect were swarming with sex-hungry "Italianos" and Turks. That said, it's an enjoyable small city, definitely worth a visit.

Oh, yeah, you are the guy who claimed that "Odessa was one of the cheapest places he has ever visited" (huh?), who asserted that a mojito at Ibiza Beach Club costs 4 €, and when I pointed out the BS, didn't accept that he was wrong ?

Yup...probably the cheapest ever if I exclude a few places in Asia.

Great datasheet man!!! +1 How about the prices of Odessa compared to Kyiv? Did you notice any difference in woman's attitudes in Odessa?

I just liked Kyiv so much more.

Prices are about the same, but I think quality of food is better.

Girls gave the impression of being a little less genuine and more gold-digger, IMO.

God damn, this thread got way sidetracked.

For those asking about the beaches--they're okay. Not SoCal or Asian quality as far as sand and water, but you can swim.

Head North away from all the tourists, real nice beaches up there.
