Odessa is nice for a few days in summer, concentrate on the girls from out of town as the local women are parasites.

What happened? I'd wager these girls were 25+, had intermediate-advanced English, and were decisive/controlling in their behavior towards you (in contrast with the general rule). These are exactly the type of women you'll see me fleeing on a sunny day in Kiev.

This guy sums up Odessa quite well. I would say that two changes since then is that there are less Turks(hallelujah) because of their depressed currency, and also many young people have left the city and country altogether.

Do as the local guys advise, look for girls from out of town
