Prince is dead

Prince was the kind of talent that, even if you weren't into the music style or personality, you have to respect the talent. I know tons of rock fans who were blown away by his superbowl performance or his version of guitar gently weeps. I'm mostly a country fan and I think the guitar solo from Purple Rain is as tastey as anything else ever played on a telecaster. I've always wanted to hear it done on a pedal steel, I've found a few covers but nothing well done.

Prince was a once in a generation talent who transcended genres. Music fans of any genre can appreciate Prince's talent. RIP.

The same thing people were wrongly saying about Bowie.
How can he be "original all the way" when he was product of the postmodern era? His style and persona(s) was an amalgam of different influences and had everything to do with those that came before him (or alongside him): Chuck Berry, Little Richard, James Brown, Elvis, Hendrix, Sly Stone, Michael Jackson, heck even the Sting. Not to mention little influences he picked up from performance/art history, as well as countless characters he encountered on the streets (especially early on).
I realize we may get somewhat emotional and hyperbolic when our faves depart, but let's try to keep things in perspective.

I've been asked to speak at his funeral. This is as far as I got with the eulogy so far:
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..."
Take care of those titties for me.

Damn just heard.
Saw Prince play live twice in the 90's, once at Wembley Stadium and once at Wembley Arena with the New Power Generation. Awesome gigs, awesome artist.
First Bowie now Prince, two geniuses gone too soon.
RIP

Dammit. Prince taught me to drum with the precision of a metronome, how to layer harmonies, and what 9ths and 13ths were. For a hugely-commercial force in the 80's, he was an incredibly-experimental artist.

And it wasn't all hype with these girls. Sheila E. could drum a bit:

I bet his friend, mentor, and spiritual inspiration, Larry Graham (69), never thought he would outlive Prince.

I don't get why people say he "died too young."
He had lived a full life, achieved things that the vast majority of men can only dream of and was pushing 60.
Being alive simply for the sake of being alive is not a mindset I understand.
R.I.P.
