UK Referendum on EU Membership (Brexit) Thread

I'm torn on this one, genuinely it'd be best to leave the eu while retaining freedom of work and travel under the eec like Iceland.

My own personal interests would prefer that the UK as a whole are divided on this vote, England voting yes and being kept in my Scotland voting no would be one of the triggers for the next Scottish independence referendum or a udi.

Torn between what's rationally politically best vs what's nationally best for Scotland.

50% good is better than 100% bad.

If this referendum fails, both Scotland and England get to sink with the rest of the ship. You both get to be invaded by hordes of aggressive migrants, whilst continuing to pay 55million a day for the privilege, and your parliaments becoming powerless.

If the referendum succeeds, maybe Scotland will try to break away again, so they can then join up again for this fantastic offer with the EU independently. But that will be a second battle, and at least one country won't be fucked.

On the freedom of movement, if the EU continues, you may find there are few places left worth moving to. People still get work visas fine without freedom of abode.

Out is the only correct answer.

The scaremongering by the 'In' side is pure poison, and should cause any man of good conscience to vote against it on principle.

The timing of the referendum is cynical, and shows how insulated from the consequences of their actions the politicians are. 23rd of June is too soon for the full effect of the Summer's impending migration boom to be felt. Cameron et al. recognise that a vote in 2017 would probably result in an overwhelming majority of people voting to leave, as by then Europe is likely to be reeling far more than it is now - not just from the weight of immigration, but there is a real possibility that we will be back in recession by then.

The polls have the 'In' campaign ahead by 15 points, and I suspect that the outcome of the referendum will show that to be about right. It may narrow, but I can't honestly see us voting to leave. The level of indoctrination that many have been exposed to is staggering. The latest figures on our education system are appalling, yet we have more people than ever who feel they are qualified to talk sensibly about complex matters in international law, and the structure of the financial system as a whole. The ordinary working man is actually far more endearingly astute and informed than the sneering mass of button pushers who claim to understand perfectly what is in the nation's best interests (even though they loathe the whole concept of nationhood).

Even if the vote was returned to leave the EU, the Prime Minister, the Chancellor, etc have all stated categorically that they will not resign and will 'lead the UK into whatever comes next'. This is a nonsense. There is absolutely no political intent within the cabinet to leave (bar the few ministers who have joined the 'Out' campaign), and these people who hold the reigns of power, and who have no intention of giving them up, cannot possibly be trusted to lead us out of the Union.

Beware of many of the leftists posting nonsense statistics about proportions of trade, and other such alleged benefits. Our control of trade is not currently in our own hands. We do not have the capacity to negotiate freely with non-EU actors. We cannot even engage freely and on fair terms with the Commonwealth (53 countries, I believe).

If Trump would promise to build a wall between UK and the EU to prevent further waves of cultural enrichment, I would vote for that.

Why build a wall? You already have a mote!

Have any of you guys noticed the "Exports are in high demand!" ads being blasted on the radio and TV? I wonder if this has anything to do with the EU ref.

This will certainly be an interesting few months. From my observations there seems to be quite a big divide through the entire country regarding the referendum.

it's a shame this referendum can't be set to a later date as I think it would benefit those of us who want to leave. But of course it benefits the government and those who want to remain in the EU to have this referendum as soon as possible. Let's look at why.

1) As H1N1 mentioned, the migrant crisis isn't going to improve over the summer, so those who want to remain want to get this over and done with now

2) There seems to be turmoil in the banking sector once again, the effects of which will have ramifications for the EU and the UK. Hell, Barclays shares have fallen between 7%-11% according to todays news. Have this referendum now before things get worse

3) From what I have seen the leave campaign is not as unified as the stay campaign. Have this referendum before they leave campaign can really mobilise

Interesting thing is that there are notable figures on both sides of the debate from the left and the right of the political spectrum. To name a few:

Stay in the EU:

David Cameron
George Osborn
Jeremy Corbyn
Tony Blair

Leave the EU:

Boris Johnson
Nigel Farage
George Galloway

'Germans want a vote on the EU too' Merkel hell as Germany calls for UK-style referendum

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Express last night, party leaders of AfD shared their envy of Britain’s forthcoming EU referendum on June 23, and confirmed they would be pushing for a similar move in Germany.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/6539...ant-crisis

Now French voters call for FREXIT after Germany face demands for EU referendum

MORE than half of French voters want their own in-out referendum on European Union (EU) membership, renewing fears in Brussels that a Brexit could topple the 28-country bloc.

In a fresh blow to the EU, 53 per cent of the French voted in favour of holding a UK-style referendum on the country’s membership.

What are the latest polls? Sadly, my prediction of an "in" victory still stands. Had the referendum been held later I'd narrowly, uncertainly favor "out."

It really doesn't matter if we do vote to leave.
Because you know what'll happen?
First we'll be told this
[Image: attachment.jpg30741]
And then we'll be made to vote again. Correctly this time. Remember Ireland?

I had totally forgotten about this incident, but Hardy Daytona brings up a very important example from back in 2008/2009 how the results of a referendum in Ireland on the Lisbon Treaty (essentially a EU Constitution with a different name) were flat out ignored and people were asked to vote "correctly" a 2nd time a year later.

From wikipedia:
Quote:Quote:

The first referendum on the (European Union) Treaty of Lisbon held on 12 June 2008 was rejected by the Irish electorate, by a margin of 53.4% to 46.6%, with a turnout of 53%.

The second referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon held on 2 October 2009 and the proposal was approved by 67.1% to 32.9%, with a turnout of 59%.

If those in power really want the UK to leave the EU, they will do it on their own in a few days/weeks with a few acts of parliament.

Even in countries not in the EU like Switzerland, the land where everything is decided by "democratic" referendums...results are also sometimes flat out ignored by governments. In February 2014 citizens of Switzerland voted to limit immigration from other EU countries by quotas even though they are part of the Schengen open borders, free movement treaty.

2 years have passed since that referendum and there are still no immigration quotas in place in Switzerland.

Add Finland to that:
https://www.rt.com/business/335224-finla...zone-exit/

‘Fixit’ petition pushes euro exit debate in Finland

The parliament in Finland will debate in the coming weeks whether the country should withdraw from the European single currency, according to an official cited by Reuters.

The debate follows a citizen petition signed by more than the required 50,000 Finns. A date for the debate in parliament has not been set.

The debate will unlikely lead to Finland exiting the eurozone, the agency said, but the number of signatures shows strong public disapproval of the country's economic performance.

David Cameron is the pure example of a classic cuck. He's equivalent of Jeb Bush. A weak and powerless politician in the hands of Tory establishment.

Just read these letters been published by the Telegraph recently:

Letters: Cameron’s enthusiasm for EU membership risks deceiving the public

That's the beauty of the scam. The hard left is an unelectable lunatic leaving conservatives with nothing but a soft left traitor.

Interested to hear from any other UKIP/Tory voters on who they'd like to be the next tory party leader?

My (realistic) preferred candidate would be Liam Fox, who is a Scottish pro-brexit bloke who's a very good speaker and charismatic.

Ideally, someone like Nigel Farage would be the Tory party leader, but I can't see that happening.

Perhaps Jeremy Clarkson could give it a go, à la Trump?

@Britchard, a Clarkson campaign would be hilarious. Even better if he went against Corbyn.

And so, the scaremongering continues.

Project Fear: RT unravels the latest scare tactics to keep Britain in the EU

Brexit scaremongering is international. Spain has threatened to cut off access to Gibraltar if Britain quits the EU, essentially leaving it lonely and isolated under the belly of Europe. RT unpicks other recent doomsday predictions from Project Fear.

Should I stay or should I go? That is the question facing Brits on June 27, when a referendum will be held on the UK’s continued membership of the European Union.

Prime Minister David Cameron named the date for the vote last month following frantic negotiations with fellow EU leaders. Since then leaders from across the globe have made clear their opposition to Brexit, with many resorting to scare tactics.

It's just astonishing to see how members who want to leave are being intimidated by the others to stay in or they threaten some sort of punishment. And the people don't wonder what's going on here? The Union of "European love, freedom, tolerance and brotherhood" is trying to force members to stay - and people still don't get it? If some foreign country threatened my country to stay in their fucked up alliance of a borderline-communist circlejerk, I'd all the more vote for the exit.
