Hello everyone, there's some fantastic info here. I am a high schooler and I've always been fascinated with China. Everything about it has always been so interesting to me, including the history, the culture, and the girls. Especially with this post, it seems like there would be no better time than now to go to China. However, I won't be able to at least travel to China until the summer of 2017. Now this post talks about how even without a degree you will get job opportunities thrown at you, but how about for somebody fresh out of high school? I'm frequently told I look like I'm in my twenties and have a mature appearance, and also I've got experience with part time jobs and pretty good grades etc. Obviously, before I tried to get a job in china I'd do something like one of those shortened TEFL courses just to have something on my resume. But even with that I doubt I would be able to easily get a job, am I correct? Thanks everybody!

There's a new law just enacted this year that states you now have to have a degree notarized by the US government (or whichever country's govt you reside in) to get a work visa to legally work in the country. The days where you could teach in China with ease are coming to an end it seems. It'll be like South Korea and Japan levels of strictness and thorough background checks soon. Also, the Yuan (Chinese currency) is dropping in value each month. Frankly, this isn't a good time to come teach.

Has anyone used online 1-to-1 language lessons for Chinese? I've heard of italki but any other suggestions would be great.

Just dropping in to say: fantastic write-up. I'm a China newbie in Beijing, coping with the culture shock and the fucking smog. Biked to the Olympic village today. Despite the chaos of BJ's traffic, it seems everything flows smoothly... like a school of fish. Language classes start tomorrow so I'm hoping it'll empower me to venture out into the city a bit more.

There any/many other Beijingers on here?

Cheers.

A bike is a great choice as soon as you are in Beijing. The first thing you should get once you have bed sheets.

Sunday has the best traffic. Get back on Ring Road 4 on a Monday at 6PM and you're in for a special type of adventure.

I'm the only Beijing based member who actively posts. There are a couple guys who have accounts, but they've only used them to market a WeChat group here in Beijing.

There's another member who doesn't post much, but is a legit guy.

Are you aware of any groups (especially expat ones) who play soccer or basketball in the city? My googling has been unsuccessful so far.

As for the girls here, I don't think I've ever seen a more hit-or-miss talent pool. On the subway or in the nicer neighborhoods you'll see some seriously sexy girls with good style, but BJ also has some of the ugliest, flat-faced plain Janes on earth. Coming from the US though, rarely having to suffer the sight of a tramp-stamped hambeast is a breath of fresh air.

They exist, but are generally something you would find through social circle connections.

Yes, very few hambeasts here, but Beijing girls are largely Hebei genetic stock, which is about as bad as it gets in China.

Haven't posted anything for a while in here as I've been very busy.
Busy with my coaching and with life in general.
I'm long due for a detailed update as well as my thoughts on living and being in China after 8 months now. As well as positives and negatives I've noticed from living in China so far. I'll do also a break down of cost of living here. If one wanted, Hangzhou can be a great bootstrapping option!

Then do. VP has done plenty, he doesn't owe anybody on here anything.

You're not even paying for anything so quit your bitching.

IF one was to have an MBA, how easily would it be to get a job in China?

What other skills does this person have?

Can't really answer your question without more details:

MBA from where?
What kind of jobs are you looking for?
What previous work experiences do you have?
What other skills/talent do you have?
What other things do you bring to the table?
Do you speak any Chinese?

There are more factors in play, but these are the most important ones in order to provide you an accurate answer.

It's been a long time since I last updated this thread. Been super busy working and hustling here. Currently enjoying some much needed and deserved holidays in Cebu, Philippines. It really is more fun in the Philippines![Image: smile.gif]

Will write a detailed post on my thoughts after my first year in China in the next few days, time permitting![Image: smile.gif]

I absolutely cleaned up in China from 2009 to 2012. White fever was still strong then. By 2014 it was dying. As I rarely hear China mentioned on here I'm guessing it's completely dead now? I've thought about returning as Chinese girls are all about the money and now I'm pulling $25,000+/month online, but I'm wondering if the anti-foreigner vibe is just too strong now...
