Well it seems to be really fun there [Image: wink.gif].
I am hesitating between Bogota and Medellin, I can approach 10 girls a day, my spanish is average+, I love gaming in english what really annoys me is the weather in Bogota, it seems to really suck ...
I think I can do 3 months of 'spanish warm up' in Bogota, meet you and have ridiculous nights then go for the real deal in Medellin for 3 months.
I'd love to have cool wings like you there to do some crazy things [Image: wink.gif].
Are girls there career focused?
By the way anybody already tried to create a company in order to get a Visa for 2 years and do some remote job?

I've been in Bogotá for the last 6 weeks.

Firstly, the weather is fine. Nothing to complain about.

Secondly, are the girls career focused? Yes. But they still like to party.

You're British, a bit of rain isn't going to kill you but it can be annoying when a torrential down pour happens as you're going about your day or worse, at night. Colombians for whatever reason can't take the rain and if it starts pouring after 8-9pm on weekend night, many will stay home. It also rains quite a bit in Medellin but only for an hour or two maybe 4-5 days each week, that's the reason why Bogota and especially Medellin are very green cities.

I find the temperature in Bogota to be perfect, day time highs of about 18-22 so you can walk around in a tee shirt and jeans and not sweat your dick off, then at night it goes down to about 12-15 so you throw on a coat or a sweater and light jacket (or go out suited up) and you'll be good to go. Bogota is the most fashionable city because you can dress light in the day but have to throw more on at night. Medellin has day time highs in the 25-30 range, which isn't too bad but I find the sun to be intense and since its not "cool" to where shorts, I sweat during the day and seek shade. Night is perfect but sweaters and jackets are too much for me, even suited up would be, a dress shirt and jeans is fine.

They call Medellin the city of eternal spring but to me as a Canadian its like a hot summer day all the time, its manageable though, Cali is a bit much and up on the Caribbean coast its fucking insane and I can only last a few days up in that furnace.

The weather in Bogotá in late June when I went earlier this year I thought was kinda meh. The day I got there I thought I had landed in a hidden paradise because it was blue skies and sunny, and even on the warm side, but the rest of the time it was cloudy, drizzly, and chilly. Had planned to spend a month there but only lasted a week before I shipped off to MDE. I'd say that weather in general is highly relative - if you're from the UK, Seattle, or like the colder-weather climes, you shouldn't have a problem. Someone like myself who really values warm sunny days (especially for day gaming) and blue skies, I found Bogotá to be a bit of a drag. Still a great city, just not a place I can spend considerable time solely due to the weather.

Does anyone have tips on using taxis in Bogota?

I've heard a few stories about people using Uber and being ripped out of their cabs by taxi mafia guys.

Is this a real concern?

I have had advice from a local Medellin Uber driver to just use the normal taxis there and be fine with them taking the longer route and paying more to avoid trouble.

Bullshit or not?

The pollution there is indeed brutal and is the main reason why I can't stay in the city for longer than a week, there's been a few times that I was crossing the street in Chapinero along Caracas or la Septima and was totally grossed out by the fume spewing buses passing by.

Haha ok, then Bogota will be miserable for you, better off in Medellin or Cali. Guys from sunny places like Australia, California or Florida tend to gravitate to those places, most of the gringos I meet in Bogota are British/Irish, Canadian or from the northern states.

I have been 1 year in the UK so I'm used to bad weather, right now I'm really hesitating between Bogota and Medellin.
Where are you guys hanging out december-feb?
My english game is really good compared to my foreign game. Bogota seems to be easier but Medellin better in term of girls.
1 world problems ...
Rent wise, is it more expansive than Medellin? And how many per cent of the girls spoke english?
Oh yes most important, do girl work 60h+ a week than go to shitty friends/familly birthday during the weekend.
Is it possible to date girls during the week?

As a guy who rolled solo quite a bit and has very little Spanish here are some very basic but quite handy tips:

- write down where you want to go before you leave the house, if you are going to a nightclub bring a card from your hotel with the address and phone number to show the driver later when you want to return home

- hand them small notes when you go to pay - they price the taxi according to what you give them. If you hand them a big note your price magically just went up!

- ask for the price before you go to pay. I did this even when I didn't know what they were saying back. Makes it look like you somewhat know what the fuck is going on

- sit in the back on the far side of the taxi from them, keep an eye on what they are up to and stay alert. Also check out how to open the doors fast if you might need to. I never did but I always was somewhat prepared

- Have a look at the driver info card and make it kind of obvious that you have checked it out. Again just a little tactic to show you are observant and that you might have their personal details if they fuck you over

- don't be playing on your phone or showing off items such as cash or a wallet

- good body language, confident eye contact, friendly but sharp

- ALWAYS check the fare meter is reset the moment you get in the taxi. They tried this trick quite a few times

I rode a lot of taxis late at night all around Bogota and other cities by myself with very little problems. You can also use the official taxi stands for added security and/or take a photo of the taxi or the info card on the back of the seat. I didn't do this much myself. Go with your gut too. If it feels wrong just get out early somewhere safe and get a different taxi.

A lot of people use the Ez Taxi app, apparently it's the safest and easiest. I've never personally used the app but I've had people order one for me.

I would usually flag random street taxis down, at all hours, drunk and in shitty places of town and never had a problem except my last night in Colombia they overcharged me, I was meeting a chick and didn't feel like arguing with him over a few dollars.

The transmilenio isn't THAT bad if you are trying to save money and aren't in a hurry, as long as it isn't rush hour I'd consider it, plus there are lots of opportunities to game some random chick on the bus or waiting for the bus. But for a 10-15 minute taxi ride it shouldn't be more than $3-4 USD.

-Download UBER, had zero issues when I used it. Much better service and you pay with card on the app. It can be a pain when out at Zona T to use it. Since Uber cars dont want to hang around there because there are so many taxis.

-Always make sure they put on the meter; dont let them tell you there offering a cheaper price

- hand them small notes when you go to pay - they price the taxi according to what you give them. If you hand them a big note your price magically just went up! this is a really good one, they magically wont have change the larger the bill.

I look a lot like a local guy, so flagging down taxis on the street was no issue for me. Do understand that the official stands will rip you off.

For people that are grabbing a cab from a bus station etc, what I usually did was skip the avoid the official ones right outside and wander down the sidewalk where the drivers are that don't want sit in the lineup. Find out the going rate, say 15 or 20k pesos, whatever is the common rate. If you are being cheap, tell a taxi driver you ONLY have 12k pesos or something and ask if that's ok they will reluctantly say yes cause they've been sitting there for probably half an hour doing nothing. (obviously when you go to pay you will give them exact change and have it in a separate pocket so they don't see more money)

If you are staying in La Candelaria and out in 85 and want a ride back at 3am it can be a hassle. I had 5 drivers reject me saying they didn't want to go there. So if you are intending on giving some chick a facial, trying for 15 minutes to get a taxi on the sidewalk can kill the vibe a bit.

Can you extend your visa in Medellin too (newbie question)?

I've never been to Bogota, but I do know that although Bogota people have a reputation of being cold and unfriendly toward other Colombians, they also have a reputation of treating foreigners extremely well, more so than paisas. Not getting the time of day should be the least of your worries there.

The out-group would be Paisas, who are the coldest to foreigners--due to the estranjero-saturation in Medellin. A visit to Babylon on Thursdays (Thirstdays) would illustrate why, with white guys running clown game on 5s-6s, and black guys attempting the grab-and-grind on chubby-to-fat Colombianas.

Rolas, Costenas, girls from Santander, etc. are more similar in that respect, with neutral-to-positive views on foreigners.

The better attention to cosmetics and dress of the Paisas, however, cancel out their cold/hostile views of foreigners. Otherwise, Medellin would be a no-go zone.
