Oh and BTW, I am thinking about dropping a multi-level datasheet on Mexico on this forum. It would kind of a be a series of datasheets (not all at once but every once in a while I would drop down a big post) in the same thread outlining Mexican food, gaming Mexican girls, off-the-beaten track places in Mexico, ect. Anyone interested in me doing this kind of thing?

I wish I took Spanish in high school and college. I am self-teaching now (just started a week or two ago) using DuoLingo, Pimsleur, Interpals, Spanish for Beginners by Duffy, and Berlitz. I plan on tearing up Central and South America this year. I've always been curious about Mexico City because it is so massive.

And you guys are right, when I mention going to any part of Mexico that is not a resort, people look at me like I am going to war.

This just shows the clueless nature of people from the USA as it relates to Mexico. They think they know but...they just don't. I took heat from my family and friends when I picked Mexico City as a place to stay for approximately 3 months. And I have traveled around the globe for 3 years. I arrive and as expected. Great city...

So I suppose you've already heard of Pata Negra and the many other places close to Parque Espana- they are never really a miss, except for during the weekends, when they are way too crowded. I personally prefer a place called Loft to Pata Negra. Though you'll have to work harder to find a girl who is DTF there, the quality-- at least based on my experiences-- has on average been better than in Pata Negra. Honestly, just by walking around that area around Parque Espana and Parque Mexico you'd be hard pressed to find a place that doesn't suit your tastes.

Although I maintain that the best place to game on a Sunday is right after evening mass.. [Image: biggrin.gif]

I passed by Pata negra yesterday at about 1am. It was full of guys and no hot girls. Left in 5 minutes. Based on commentaries I guess I went on a bad moment or maybe a bit late. I went in about 4 places in that area and none seemed interesting, very bad ratios. Probably the clubs with 200+ peso entry have the nicer girls, I'll find out soon.

Yes, on weekends it's really not worth going, mainly because of how packed the place is with people. You did, as you write, arrive a bit past prime time though- all the pubs in that area are best to go to around 10/11pm.

San Angel, which is really close to Cd Universitaria (hence loads of UNAM girls...yes please), has its share of good clubs. Could definitely be an idea to head out there for late dinner one day, as there are many good Mexican restaurants in that area, and then head off to a club. Tons of clubs along Avenida de La Paz, though these are the more upscale ones in the area, with more of a 25+ crowd. If you venture a bit more south towards Cd Universitaria, you'll find clubs packed with students along Insurgentes Sur. Can't go wrong here. Keep us updated.

Funny, the way I play I find it better if the club is wall to wall packed.

The clubs in/around Loreto are good bets, though the ones with a cover/table charge usually have thougher crowds (social circles trying to impress/cockblock the others). I was at Frida for Dia de la Independencia and saw some very hot, very young lizards there. Quickly got the number of one that was there with her boyfriends, but she flaked later so nothing. Try them if your game includes gaming groups or getting numbers to close the deal on another night. If you want a same night lay or are only in the city for less than a week, the clubs on the usual Condesa/Roma spots are a safer bet.

Though Ive never gone there at those times, a lot of my student friends say that areas by Ciudad Universitaria have bars that get packed on school nights only to be dead on Saturdays. I would try those on a Thursday or Friday, beetween 7pm and 10. Many students choose the CU campus even though they live closer to other campuses (specially those living in Mexico State) because it has more prestige and its harder to get into. So I assume they would go party after classes and then cut it after 10 to perhaps ride those 2+ hour commutes before the subway closes for the night.

If Loft is the place Im guessing (the one with a swimming pool on the balcony) it has a younger, slightly upscale crowd (usually still living at home but with disposable incomes) which would travel in groups or tight social circles and would be shamed to go back with someone, or being seen as not approved by the group. I would recommend number closing there and use those numbers for isolating on weekday dates. Pata Negra also has no cover charge and has a strict "everybody in the line gets in" so the crowd is only regulated by the music selection and prices. Its still in Condesa though so while upscale-ish, it will be composed of more hipster, white-collar, nini, backpacker elements, that will be alone or in smaller groups or be more DTF that a younger/cant spend a lot/has to be back home tonight crowd.

As stated before, Pata Negra is a gamble any night, but its a safe bet and theres decent talent. What I mean by this is that you could go there any night and find the place empty but for a gaggle of fatties on a bachelorette party, then go the next night and find the place packed from next doors convention of brazilian models. The strategy is to get there early, around 9, to avoid the line (they have salsa lessons on Wednesdays and Saturdays earlier so is a good place to pregame) or way later, an hour or two before closedown. If its a good night, you stay there and game a bit, if not then just leave and look at the other bars around, and you just lost a couple of minutes instead of a lot of time in line or cover charges.

Yes, when it comes to clubs it's definitely easier approaching if it is packed than half-empty, let alone there being more options. As for Pata Negra however, I don't know; it is an opaque creature between a pub and a club to me, although it tilts more towards the pub impression mostly because of the interior.

But as you note, the many Fresas which are to be found in certain Condesa/Polanco clubs and bars will be tough targets given their usually stuck-up attitude and how much they try to conform with their group. That's why I generally avoid going out in Polanco, even though I live here.

And yes, if in DF only for a short period of time, it is certainly best to focus on Condesa/Roma. I somehow ended up in a CU club late yesterday night (don't remember the name, just know that it was somewhere along Insurgentes Sur, as most others), and it was packed when I came at around 1am. The quality of girls was hit and miss though.

No, I was thinking about Loft which is on the very same "patio" as Pata Negra, just to the left of it if facing PN from Parque Espana. A young crowd for sure gathers there, and yes, isolating can be somewhat of a hassle. But provided you know elementary Spanish and aren't too shy to approach any of the groups and befriend them, you'll fare well.

I've never been to the salsa lessons at Pata Negra though- any experiences? Mama Rumba on Thursdays is quite good I've heard.
