The "looking for real estate" can backfire in SEA, where everyone thinks they are part of the real estate business. Everyone knows someone who will give them a bite of the cake if they sell something to the stupid farang.

Mentioning you are looking to buy offices is a sure way to get the sweet 19 y/o you met to start selling you her uncle's real estate bullshit (nevermind if the uncle is just a taxi driver, he will try to sell you some overpriced condo or whatever).

Working in IT/software does not have the same stink everywhere. In poorer economies, a foreigner who works remotely for an international company, gets paid in dollars, sets their own schedule, etc., is not low status compared to what most of the locals can offer.

A short, respectful speech like "I'm fortunate to be able to work remotely and live where I choose, and [this place] is somewhere I've always been curious about ... the culture ... the food ... the history." Being able to speak the language and say something positive, sincere and knowledgeable about the people also sets you apart.

For many years, my actual job was maintaining a software application remotely. It could just as easily have been websites. Not a single person ever asked for details. Even if this had not been my actual situation, it could have been a good cover story if the goal was just to explain my presence and avoid looking like a sex tourist.

That is pretty much my situation right now, earn pounds, work in Poland, earn a killing on the exchange rate and live like a king.

It still however is one of the things I tip toe around, if they ask I say im an engineer and that my job is boring so i dont want to talk about it. I have my shit together in other areas, im a recreational athlete in a few extreme sports so it is enough to distract them with that and talk about my passions rather than my boring job.

I have various cover stories for why im here, the above is one of them, I have another one in regards to the sports I do, how this city is really good for it and I have friends who live here that do them who are the best at it (kinda true actually) and I want to learn off them. The third, more situational story I give, is that my country is being taken over by muslims and im getting away before it gets really bad (and this is actually the true story). That one is only for the girls that dont seem so incredibly lefty, there are certainly more nationalists amongst Polish girls than any western country based girls ive met, but they are still quite left leaning generally.

The best posts on this thread should indeed be studied, and used for the making of your own "Cover Story", because it becomes more and more necessary each year to shake the "sex tourist, Casanova player" image that's becoming a real hindrance throughout the world.

I agree about taking your true situation and bending it in your favor. That way you will have enough depth and confidence to respond to the girl's inquiries. If you have a LinkedIn profile, make sure it's congruent with your backstory. These days, most girls will do an online search about guys before getting involved further, especially if you met online.

One story that´s simple and easy to apply is being an employee of a multinational consulting firm.

Some benefits:
1) Level yourself up: You can say that you´re director or even a partner. Consulting firms have many young senior employees (like directors in early 30´s, for example).
2) Broader time range to set: You can be on the country just for a week for some meetings or being in a larger project that will take some months to be done.
3) Fit in your skills: You have consulting firms for basically every kind of service - IT, medical services, engineering, financial, you name it. Just choose one that you have basic knowledge and your story will be more consistent.
4) Easy to believe: Even if a consulting firm have its own headquarters in the country you are, it´s not uncommon in this business to bring someone from other countries, either because of some specific skills or due to international job rotation programs.

Personally I don't change my story at all. I say what I do and how long I will be in a place. Whether it's a day or a month, they know when I'll be leaving. Overall I don't think it hurts my results at all... there are situations where I play up the fact I'm leaving in a short amount of time to my advantage and those even out the occasional situation where a girl loses interest because of the same thing... but even that I can probably count on one hand the amount of times it has hurt me. That said, my game is a very honest style of game, I'm an open book, so it would be counter productive to my style to create a cover story.
