What woman from the 1950s makes modern women look like the losers they are?

There's no way Audrey Hepburn should be on this list, being famous primarily for her short hair, snark and instability (to put it mildly) in family life.

She wasn't particularly bright. That being said, definitely WB.
Audrey Hepburn was probably the first (and last) woman to successfully pull off the "pixie cut."
If you're not fucking her, someone else is.

WB, furiously.
Now it's all devolved into garbage. I absolutely hate the whole modern way of treating the female lead in movies. Of course now, she's the "indispensable sidekick" who's just as valuable as the main male character, not to mention being able to kick all the ass that the man can. Thanks, but no thanks. If you want my money to see your movie, you better bring it back to her being the sexy ditz companion.
This describes the man-jawed female lead in Blacklist perfectly. The only reason I've watched any of the episodes at all is because of James Spader. She, on the other hand, looks the way you describe and can't act. Probably a friend of a friend or some other kind of Hollywood nepotism involved. Notice too they constantly pile on the face makeup in such a way to try to give her cheek bones as she has no face angles other than the man jaw.

All of these women so far have been famous, but in my youth I always appreciated this gal from an MST3K short (comes in around 1:25).
This is a no name woman in a trade video that hardly anybody was ever going to see, but she's feminine, not fat, and pretty wholesome looking. This really captures the spirit of the age better than celebrities, I think.

Modern women idolize and cling to the iconic female sex-symbols of the "golden era" because they represent women who were beautiful and had 'class' but were also independent, wealthy, and self-made due to second-wave feminism in the post-women's suffrage age. It plucks the narcissistic heart strings of modern Western women with the "have it all" mentality because these icons seemed to have it all in that they were powerful, beautiful, graceful/classy, and socially and historically influential. Attach their pictures to some contrived witty quotes that they more than likely never said and there you have it.
With that said, Marilyn Monroe was a strung out drugged up whore and a complete mess. Women like her because she parallels what all women this day and age want - to be adored for their beauty and success and be able to party yolo-style and conquer the world you-go-grrl style.
Ugh.

My "Mount Rushmore" of all time greats (in their primes, of course):
Raquel Welch
Claudia Cardinale
Ann-Margret
Natalie Wood
Julie Christie
Grace Kelly
They have/had class, style and femininity that 99.9999% of the current crop can't being to think of having.

Modern women look like losers because modern men are losers.

Sadly, many are. You're right.

This thread is so refreshing to look at compared to threads of our modern women, even our modern women we love.
Unfortunately, the "refreshing" is from 50 years ago.
Love this thread, keep em coming.

This thread makes me kinda sad.
These women are just so basically slim, beautiful and feminine.
Compare to all the top actresses/TV stars now. Most are trashy and unattractive. I think people (particularly women) look to someone they can relate to instead of emulate, hence the popularity of Lena Dunham. She's fat, narcissistic and obnoxious. That of course takes no effort. Instead of trying to be appealing to the opposite sex, it's "take me as I am". Fuck that.
As I've said, men are expected to be fit, well dressed, charismatic, confident, assertive, good career, car, place, status, social circle, etcetera. Men from Cary Grant to Charlton Heston to George Clooney do this. And we accept that and try to emulate it in one way or another.
So how hard is it to just attempt to be slim and feminine? Stop dressing and acting like a trashy whore, and eat right. That's it for women. No one is expecting women to look like exactly as good as these women. But at least use that as a goal. Instead, Lindy West to Lina Dunham to Mindy Kailing are current role models for women. Fuck.

^^ yeah it's depressing if you let it get to you. The way girls just let themselves go and are told there are no repercussions is just plain wrong. No wonder we're getting the Lena Dunhams and 'fat is beautiful' thrown at us.
The fact that we even have this thread and everyone is commenting on how beautifully feminine these women from 50-60 years ago are is pretty telling. Clearly these women back then actually wanted (and valued) a man, and were not fed a steady diet of lies about the evils of men & masculinity and how they are 'keeping them down.' So they had a much better awareness of who they were and how to properly respect and deal with real men.
The women from the Bond films really still do it for me. Daniella Bianchi in "From Russia with Love" and Claudine Auger in "Thunderball" really did it for me:

I personally don't care much for Marilyn Monroe. I'm more interested in beautiful women from the 50s and 60s who had old fashioned female power. Our grandmothers like this. They ran their homes with an iron fist in a velvet glove, they raised families and they took no shit from any man, even while, they were extraordinarily feminine and fought like lionesses for their husbands.
American women were like this after WWII. And I think they would look with horror and disgust at how weak, slutty, degraded, and useless their granddaughters are after 50 years of radical feminism.
That being said...we are all probably too weak as men to handle those women!
Maybe American men have sunk at the same time, but ultimately it's women who maintain the standards of any society. Once they sink, you all sink.

Never heard of those last two. Elaborate please?
