I have earbuds. I wouldn't hear a 747 fly through the gym when my Motorhead is cranked up to 11. Scream and slam weights all you want.

I have a lot of loud guys at my gym, but they're moving heavy weight.

Mostly upper body. I had a shorter black dude I used to work ou with who was pretty loud but was fuckin strong. Used to incline press 150
Dumbbells for 5, getting kind of loud on the last rep or two but not screaming, and would then drop the dumbbells from about bench height.

They had to repour concrete there. I have a meathead gym lol. I miss that guy, he used to push me hard when lifting.

I laughed. Unfortunately, when I was at the gym, I couldn't get the mom video out of my head.

As for dropping weights, I don't pay much attention to it. I won't work out at Planet Fitness or one of those family gyms and I agree with Arnold that gyms in general have crashing weight and grunting noises, just part of it. My aim is to get my workout done and make sure I'm lifting good.

Dropping weight?

It's fucking rude to do it unnecessarily, but I also understand that guys who get into heavier weights often can't avoid it. When you're pressing a 90lb dumbell in each arm you probably can't curl it into a nice, soft landing.

Shit happens. Don't do it if you don't have to, but don't get butthurt like a little bitch if someone else does it.

If you are annoyed by someone slamming weights, then you should blame your parents.

They're the ones responsible for raising a pussy.

Don't bitch about people dropping heavy ass weights. Maybe when you get strong enough to lift what they are dropping then you can talk. Easiest way to a get fucking injury is by lowering down heavy dumbbells trying not to make a sound.

Obviously if they are being obnoxious about it that might get on your nerves a little. But seriously just chill your in a gym where people are lifting heavy weights you expect a little noise and the occasional bang.

Yeah as long as they arent being dropped in an uncontrolled manner to where they couls bounce and hit you, who cares?

The only thing I cant stand is the guy who does heavy dumbells then throws them on the floor and they go rolling across the gym. You should be banned for that.

It annoys me when there's no need for it. I go up to 40kg (90lbs) dbs for my incline presses and have no problem at all at the end of the last rep, just bringing them down, tucking my arms in, and sitting up with them, and I'm not strong at all. I think incline maybe easier to do that with though compared to flat or shoulder press. Guys a lot stronger than that though, and when the dbs start getting much wider, I can understand having to drop them. But guys throwing 30kg dbs around just look stupid.

I've actually been coaching guys to not drop their deadlift too hard, as it fucks up their position for the next rep and makes them fear the weight too much. If your 160kg bar coming down sounds like 300kg, you are doing it wrong.

Oh man probably one of my biggest pet peeves at the gym!

This one douche yesterday who was geared out in his wife beater and headphones with a belly like Santa was doing dumbell press with 55's and slamming them like they were on fire and looking around after trying to see who was checking him out. It was also my chest day and I casually picked up the 105's, set them on my knees, leaned back, did my set, leaned forward again and set them down next to him. I swear he wanted to cry....

Slight tangent but my main annoyance these days is women in the weight area who horde equipment. I usually need a rope and one of those small handles on a cord thing (looks like the handle for water skiing) to finish my upper body workout.

It is normal just to walk around and if it is on the ground, just ask if they are using it. Women always seem to say the are but oftentimes 10 or 15 minutes go by without them using it.

The guys all seem to get it. They say you can borrow it just bring it back. Sometimes I just rig up right next to them (a lot the machines are set up for dual arm exercises but you only need one of the stacks).

Or they let you work in, or guys will adjust their set and use the item next so they can finish it and let you have it. We all cooperate to help one another finish (well most of the guys at my gym - still have the douches).

But girls don't give a shit.

I do my optimal best not to slam weights in the gym. Mine has a padded floor in the lifting section so it's not a very big deal though.
Grunting though, that's a different story.
I've always attributed some credibility to the theory that if you're not grunting then you're not working hard enough.
Fellow gym goers endure me as I endure them. At the end of the day it boils down to just not giving a fuck.

Grunting is fine. I grunt like I'm an orc warlord trying to kill peasants, but I do find that when guys throw down weights it can pose a safety hazard.

I was doing seated dumb bell press on a bench and this old dude is doing pull overs with 100 pounds. It's clear he can't handle the weight: his entire body is shaking, he's red as a beet and his form is total shit, but he just has to relive the glory days right next to me.

He pulls the weight over his stomach, clears it and lets it drop to the floor. The weight bounces (not rolls) and almost crushes my leg.

I stop the weight with my foot and I'm a bit panicked.

If it had bounced any faster he could have fucked me up.

I move my bench over a little to give him more space (even though I was there first) and do my next set. I'm relaxing between the set and I see a girl on the other side. She's doing lat raises with like 2.5 pounds. She looks at me with a look that says, "Should I move/get the fuck out of the way?"

I look over the guy to her and say, "Yo, you probably want to get away from there."

The guy stops in the middle of his set and says, "oh no, oh no. It's fine, it's fine." Motherfucker, no it isn't. You're dropping weight in a crowded area. Get a fucking spot you monkey.

I'm all for dudes going all out at the gym. I love pushing myself like that, but I get a fucking spot. If no one is at the gym, I'll drop weights, but if I'm sitting in a crowded area, I always use weight I can control. The last thing I want to do is fuck another guy up because my ego is too big to let me use weight I can handle.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

If the weight is beyond your ability to lift in a good manner than you're just missing out on an easy negative gain for your workout.

My pet hates are dickheads who drop dumbbells. It isn't about being a pussy but more or less concerned that said dumbbells can and do bounce onto other things, namely your feet.

I had that one time I almost punched the guy for it. Just dropped 50kg DB and it bounced almost onto my foot and I wasn't that close to him.

I've one arm pressed 65kg in the standing position and never once dropped it and I see guys dropping 40-50 DBs like its all part of an olympic process.

I don't give a rats ass about deadlifts or weightlifting platforms because those lifts are designed to be loud. Careless idiots dropping weights which damages them is my pet hate.

Grunting just makes me embarrassed to be within hearing range of the people doing it.

If it's that common there's an easy solution, just bring disposable ear plugs to the gym.
