What I want to know is what is going through the owners' heads when making calls like this.

I guarantee every player is going to want to hate fuck her.

I expect Pop to continue running a tight ship.

If this was the Knicks, Im sure she would sue J.R. smith for sexual harassment or something.

But I would be really surprised if this caused the Spurs any real issues.

Everyone gets so fucking excited about first this first that.

How about first fact checking (talking about the public and media not the rvf truth tellers).

Becky Hammon is 2nd woman to join an NBA coaching staff. Lisa Boyer was an assistant for Cavs in 2001-02.

How long before she either bangs half the team or claims she was "sexually harassed"

Boyer was a volunteer coach, she didn't get paid, so technically Hammon had the equivalent role last year. This year she'll travel with the team and sit on the bench alongside the other coaches while also getting paid. Thus she is the first actual paid female assistant coach.

With all due respect to everyone above me, this is basketball, and if she is a capable coach and Popovich thinks she will do a good job, I trust him. He is one of the greatest coaches in the league's history and has been the catalyst for many of his assistant's going on to bigger roles with other teams. She has proven herself as a professional through her play and her role last year, and now has the opportunity to learn even more from one of the best leaders in basketball.

So long as this isn't just a publicity move, and she got hired on her merits alone, this is good for everyone involved. If you honestly think the Spurs haven't looked at every angle and talked to all of their players, and if you think Hammon would risk her post-playing career over an affair, you're not thinking clearly.

Personally I always hated co-ed basketball. It made me sick to play with girls because most of them were so bad. However, if I ever had a chance to play with Hammon, I'm sure I wouldn't have minded so much. Again, so long as this hire is based on merits, then there is no issue and Coach Pop deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Pop doesn't allow for anything stupid on his team. So his players won't misbehave and she won't either. Just one of those cold truths, Spurs are a championship organization year in and year out. And no I didn't grow up in SA. Not a Spurs homer but you gotta respect them and what they do.

She worked with them last year and lo and behold they won.

I think the greater message here is that Hammon could easily have got a job with any WNBA team but realizes that the NBA is far and away a better opportunity for her to hone her skills.

I would not be surprised if uber-feminists have as much of an issue with this as some of you guys. Strange days.

I wonder if Pops will make HER cry! Dude has a coachwhip for a tongue! Women are not known for thick skin. He talks rough and gets in anyone's face and gives zero fucks how they feel about it.

Exactly. I think it is stupid that this is big news. Who gives two shits if someone is the first minority to do something? First gay pro athlete? Don't care. First woman assistant coach? Don't care. As long as the person has the merit to get a position then it shouldn't be celebrated.

I love how politically correct the media tries to be, but they don't understand that their constant stories on "first 'discriminated' person to raise to this level" is only continuing sexism, homophobia, and racism. If a gay black woman becomes the best baseball player of all time, her accomplishments should be praised... not her rase, orientation, or sex.

Publicity. They put her there to get the Midland incels to start going to games and spending their oil money at the games. Possibly looking for some " one on one" that will never happen.

Otherwise WB and steal manly watch to sell on eBay

I gained some respect for her when I read this:

Does anyone seriously believe that she was the truly best choice out there with so many qualified men available?

Plus you also have to take into account that male Players respect former Professionals, since they convey greater authority.

Now of course someone can be a genius at strategy without having the credentials of achievement. However I seriously doubt that her appointment is based on her being some kind of strategic-super-genius who surpasses every other candidate - those are high-profile, high-paying jobs in which many men have a very high interest and there must be a huge pool of candidates to pick from.

I call publicity stunt by the owners.

From what I understand the Spurs have always been a high achieving team in a market with middling to poor latino consumers. San Anontio is not exactly a powerhouse of economic might.

They have never received the acclaim they desire or the proper returns. I imagine this may be a new marketing strategy to bring aboard a female demographic that may be on the tipping point in their market board meetings or something.

Anyways, men should coach men and men should coach women as well.

People are reading to much into this and this is from a guy whom reads to much into almost everything. Spurs have no reason to shill to the market, they sell out every game and the owner makes bank and is happy just getting rings. He let's Pop do what he wants and has zero ball input aside from signing the cheques.

Pop is the real deal. He doesn't pander to people or the league, so if he feels she was the best for the job then I wish her well. It's one thing to be a assistant with a specific skill set, she obviously has played some ball judging from her height. Will she do good? I have no clue. Since she was on the staff last year then I suspect she will be fine.

If women earn their strips just like men do I have no issues.

If she excels in her role, then good on her.
If not, she'd better be able to handle the heat of constructive (haha) feedback like any other employee.
Let the reality of tangible results over a season be the arbiter of her true value.
