I think this is a dupe. But yes, it is a very annoying trait. I automatically guess she watches too much reality shows when I meet a girl who does this. Its really fun to call girls and even guys out when you catch them doing it.

The development is interesting in that humans can change the way they talk for no apparent reason at all, just like how a new meme can spread. If left in isolation, the "vocal fry" probably wouldn't be so annoying, but when you combine with you the uptalk, "like, you know", and other bad speech habits, it does not sound appealing.

On the bright side, European girls don't do this.

If we didn't bring attention to it... They would realise on their own, that they do it for no reason and it sounds stupid. Eventually it would just fade away.

Between vocal fry and uptalking I want to duct tape every girl's mouth shut.

In Miami you have your typical white girls who sound like this. Conveniently congregated at university of Miami. Half of the time approaching one just makes me want to rip their voice box. And then they say I have an accent, because I speak proper English?

The worst is hearing an entitled latin girl have a voice like she's questioning everything lol.

Agreed, I think vocal fry and uptalking is the new glass ceiling for women. Put a woman with a southern or neutral accent in the same job as a girl with sarcastic vocal fry and the prior one will get ahead...mostly because she doesn't sound like a bitch when she's saying her words.

Middle class southern white girls have the best accent in America. The southern belle accent. I love it.

^adorabe

Southern belles are my favorite in the US.

When I hear a chick speak with vocal fry these days, I mentally check-out of the approach. It's like I instantly realize her personality is all wrong for what I'm looking for.

Vocal fry actively signals "entitled white girl problems".

Contrast to girls I usually hook up with, who talk more like golden retrievers. They sound excited that I opened them, or called them. Their voices pitch with eagerness. Not boredom.

I suspect vocal tonality is an important part of compatibility that people aren't consciously aware of. It reflects the persons attitude towards life.

The southern girl above isn't cute, but when you come across one that is with the same charming accent, man oh man!

I think you were referring to something more like this.

She's upset that she's 5 ft 2 and 110 lbs. I almost like the quick wit these girls have more than the accent. There's nothing like going to a restaurant around here with a good country waitress. Ali B can also attest the the accent and wit on country girls around here. Don't be fooled into thinking its everywhere though, you get right into Knoxville, which is a small city and there are no accents, short hair, tattoos and bad attitudes.

They are trying to sound like men. It is part and parcel of the great American gender experiment.

This is very obvious in a work environment when women attempt to hit the deep registers when trying to sound authoritative. If you respond lower, they will even go lower. It is a fun sport.

I might say the best female English accent in the world. I get this shit eatin grin on my face when I hear a woman like Dolly talk.

I always associated the vocal fry with shitty attitude that seemed to radiate from my hipster friends. Everything was underwhelming to them. Everything is done, played out, boring, etc. This type of talk just seemed to vocalize their feelings.

I used to imitate them even before I really knew what I was doing. I would repeat their sounds, but with my baritone voice, and tell them to practice after me. Then I would do it again, like a maestro, and orchestrate it.

They hated that. So I know they were attuned to what a joke they sound like. Fortunately most women around here have outgrown that scene.
